I have stayed at the Birmingham Marriott on several occassions and love it. The rooms are well furnished, they are clean, they have all the facilities you would expect and the beds are to die for!! When I compare this to other hotel's my company sends me to - Jury's in Newcastle and Glasgow - this hotel is in a different league (theres nothing particularly wrong with Jury's by the way). What I particularly like is the attention staff pay to customer service. For example - this morning I was running late and asked the waitress if I they could make me a bacon sandwich instead of cooked breakfast. No problem!! and it was scrumptious too when i got the office. If you get a choice of accommodation in Birmingham - Marriott's must be a contender. Its my Hotel of the year.

I stayed at the Marriott Birmingham for three nights from Friday 28 August 2009. The purpose of the trip was for a long weekend away for four girl-friends, so that we could visit Cadbury World and Stratford-Upon-Avon.

The hotel is not located in the centre of Birmingham, which was not a bad thing. There was none of the usual city-centre noise. Although the hotel is situated on an intersection, the noise from outside traffic was minimal. To get to the Bullring and other centrally located shops we either had a pleasant 20-minute stroll or took the bus. Bus stops are located close to either side of the hotel.

Check-in was quick and reception staff gave us a map and directions on how to get to the city centre of foot. We booked four rooms and were all located on the first floor. Our rooms all had king-size beds with six pillows each. We all commented on how comfortable the beds were and how well we were able to sleep. The rooms were very spacious, bright and airy. We all had irons and ironing boards, empty mini-bar and two of the rooms had safes. There were tea and coffee making facilities, but no complimentary biscuits. The bathrooms were clean, with bath and overhead shower. The hotel provides complimentary lemongrass toiletries, which were a real treat.

The corridors were wide, well lit, bright and clean, as were the other communal areas.

None of us used the health and beauty facilities or the bar, so unable to comment on these.

Breakfast in the hotel is excellent. There is a self-service buffet serving juices, cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts, toast, smoked kipper, pastries, rolls, muffins and croissants, etc. On two occasions, the buffet also had scrambled eggs and bacon. In addition, the waiter staff took orders for hot beverages and cooked breakfasts, including porridge. The wait for the cooked breakfast never seemed long, as we had helped ourselves at the self-service buffet.

I booked directly on the Marriott website and had booked on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast rate. Dinner was good, with a choice of starters, main courses and desserts. There is not a huge variety but was sufficient for us to choose something different for each of the three evenings we had dinner. Booking DBB meant that we made a substantial saving on the costs of the meals. The background easy-listening music at breakfast and dinner was not too loud.

As additional costs for wine at dinner were paid immediately, there were not additional charges to the final bill. Therefore, we used the express check-out.

We tried to think of things to criticise, but could not find any faults worth reporting. Admittedly this is not the cheapest of hotels, but you certainly get what you pay for - excellent service all round.

This is a nice hotel, as most Marriotts are pretty nice. Not a lot of charm for a romantic visit but a great place for a business traveler. We had a clean and spacious room. The room service was fast but the food wasn't great (don't get the pizza). Restaurant/bar looked very nice though we didn't eat there.

Not terribly far from the downtown Birmingham area, an easy walk. Definitely not a bad spot for a couple of nights in Birmingham, especially if you can use your Marriott points.

We stayed here to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary. We booked the Romance package which included Champagne and Chocolates plus dinner and breakfast. We were allowed to check in 2 hours before the stated time and the room was beautiful (shame about the view out of the window!). The food in the restuarant was excellent and we couldnt believe the £7 (on average) starters and the £20 (on average mains) were included in our deal. Breakfast waas buffet style and was lovely with a large choice and if it wasnt on display (like porridge) you could request it. The staff really made this hotel. They couldnt do enough for us and were so welcoming and friendly throughout the stay. We were a 15 minute walk to the Aquarium and 5 minutes from a really nice Casino where we ended up and came out £25 better off! Also along this strip are a few lively bars and Gatecrasher Nightclub. The leisure facilites were excellent and everything is so clean. I want to go back asap.

Overall, we are very happy with the Marriott. We had a spacious corner room with a very large bathroom. Bathrobes, slippers and nice hairdryer in room. Comfortable bed. Safe in the room. One bottle of sparkling water by bedside. Employees are very helpful and nice. Possible downsides: we had to ask for luggage racks, but they were delivered promptly. Not a lot of drawer/closet space. Instant coffee/tea service in room (better than nothing.) Restaurant is not open during the week, only on weekends, but food is available all day in the bar-lounge area. Cocktails are expensive and as in most of Europe, you get a small pour. Overall, our experience has been positive and we would stay here again.

This was a really great hotel. The service was friendly, warm and professional. Passing through the lobby, it was nice to be greeted by staff in the lovely, wood paneled reception area.

My room was spacious, bright and exactly the right mix of style and residential warmth. I had windows on two corners up on the fourth floor, with sunlight flooding in. Bedding was great as ever for Marriott, and lovely lighting finished off the room excellently.

Good Marriott breakfast - everything replenished promptly, tables cleared efficiently and generally just well run - as it should be!

Nice little swimming pool and a decent sized jacuzzi. Don't expect to do serious swimming here, but it's a pleasant, leisurely place to be.

Location is good but not excellent - we had to walk the length of Broad Street a few times - which on a Saturday night isn't particularly pleasant. The hotel is far enough away from the bars and clubs to be quiet and peaceful though and it does only take a few minutes to get to the nice square outside the ICC and the really stylish Brindley Place development.

So, as I say, everything a Marriott should be - stylish in a contemporary classic way, efficiently run and all with friendly, warm service.
