I booked a room for my husband on a business trip based on the pictures they had posted on their website. My husband arrived to a shabby, unkempt, unwelcoming B&B. The kettle in the room didnt work, the tv was an old 17" tv with only 5 channels and the connection to the wifi was too low to stay online.

All in all it was disappointing, and i would recommend you avoid visiting this B&B where possible. Its not value for money.

We stayed for one night only at this hotel with our daughter who needed to be at Birmingham University first thing the following morning. The location was excellent for the university - within walking distance. There was an AA 3 star sign on the outside window and an AA 2 star sign in the porch window. When the owner answered the door, she didn't appear to have expected us even when we introduced ourselves - she didn't ever give her name. We were asked to pay up front. We had a twin room on the side of the large victorian house, our daughter had a single. When we booked online we were asked whether we wanted an en-suite room - I was amazed in this day and age that non-ensuite rooms still existed. There was a TV in each room although no remote and an indoor aerial - we could only get two channels and 3rd channel from time to time, depending on where you were standing/sitting in the room.

Although there were people in other rooms, we were the only ones for breakfast. The evening before we had agreed with the owner that we would like breakfast at 0745. We ordered toast and coffees and 3 full english breakfasts, which should have consisted of a fried egg, bacon, sausage, tomato and baked beans. The toast and coffee came about 25 minutes after we ordered it, the "full english breakfast" came about 15 minutes after that! Where was the sausage, we asked, "oh not today" the owner replied!

I may be mistaken but an establishment who wants to be classed as a hotel should provide an evening meal - this one was hard put to provide breakfast!!

Myself and colleagues stayed here whilst attending a course at the Birmingham Women's Hospital. We picked it because of the proximity to the hospital and we had not thought to check trip advisor. Our room was very cold, the radiator was barely warm. The hotel was shabby, old and outdated bed linen. The breakfast was average, not very generous, we were served by someone who struggled to take an order off two people.

Overall disappointing and shabby, the promotional pictures for the hotel promised a lot more,

To as fair as one could be, positive points are very few, The women that gave me the key to my room didnt insist on payment in adavance, although the Room I booked was not the one supplied, It was quite clean ,the shower needs to be replaced as its very old and rusted, the Awentsbury is far from a Hotel, best disccibed as a B&B badly in need of a major overhaul, the breakfast lounge was very depressing, the so called english comes with out sausages, I asked for some eggs and bacon, what I was given was one gressy fried egg and one strip of low grade bacon, their WiFi kept timming out ,also due to the property not being purpose built peoples voices carried, Im sorry that I stayed there and would advise anyone who is used to £54 a night B&B , avoid this place as its not close to anything, I spent £42 in Taxis getting back and forth from visiting Family in the Area. Was glad to check out,

Although the proprietor was pleasant and did ask us to check the room to see if it was satisfactory before he asked would we pay up front, we didn't have much choice as we were already on a time hook. The location is good for the university but that's all it has going for it. The entire hotel is dated ( 1960 ish ) and is in need of a major upgrade. At one time it must have been a beautiful family home but has now gone to seed. Our room was quiet due to the location however, the toilet seat was loose and kept sliding about, ( the pan wasn't too secure to the floor either ) and the shower rail was broken so the shower head kept moving around by itself. The cooked breakfast was nice but spoilt due to the milk being off, this was the final straw.

We stayed for 2 nights at the Awentsbury Hotel while we attended a show at the NEC. The hotel is about 8miles/ 30mins from the NEC which wasn't a problem for us. Rooms were clean and tidy, beds comfy and breakfast was good. After reading the reviews on this site - i cant see what is wrong with the hotel, it was perfect for the price we paid, and I will definatley be returning next time I need a place in Birmingham. Its nice to see a happy face when you are away from home and the staff and owners of the hotel were happy to help with recommending places to eat in the area. It is only 2 miles from the city centre which makes it a perfect place to stay if you are having a shopping trip to Birmingham, thats next on my agenda!
