Description: At Zizzi we like to do things a little differently. We don’t do over-complicated recipes or scrimpy portion sizes. We’re all about the well-chosen ingredients, simply put together to make exceptional Italian food.Right in Harborne’s busy High Street you’ll find our restaurant and it’s ready for any occasion. Built in a converted Victorian Bank our Harborne Zizzi pulls inspiration from the gorgeous architecture already in the building. There’s parking right outside and it’s only 50 yards away from the nearest public transportation so it’s easy-peasy to get to. And if you’re celebrating something special, see if our private dining area is right for you.

“Family atmosphere, good service too.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2013

We went here as a party of ten adults, and five children, as a celebration for my granddaughter's Confirmation. She had been here previously with her family, and it was her choice. The menu is varied, including a three course option for £14.96, and a children's option for £7. I chose the bean/pasta soup for a starter, it was delicious and filling, my main course was the fish risotto, again, really good. The service was very good, and everyone was served their starters within 20 minutes. We were seated near the open cooking area, so could observe the preparation. As a former bank, there are a lot of stairs up to the toilet facilities, but there is a Disabled toilet on the ground floor. We had a great Celebration, which my granddaughter really enjoyed. As the bill came to over £300 (we did have several bottles of wine!), the service charge was £29, but I felt this was very reasonable, for the size of our party. Would certainly go again.

“Late Lunch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 November 2013

We arrived around 2.30 pm and the restaurant was empty. We were surprised that the lunch time set menu was on till 5pm so we opted for that. Although the restaurant was empty, the service was extremely slow. We chose our seats and it felt like an age before our drinks and food orders were taken. The food was decent though and reasonably priced, and the waitress was very courteous despite being the only staff member on it seemed. After the starters- which took a while, the other courses subsequently came out quicker.
I would come again to this restaurant maybe in the evening when there is more atmosphere and more staff on and sample the á la carte menu further. All in all not bad, 3 courses from a set menu for two and a large bottle of peroni for the non driver for £36, just let down by the slow service.

“Spoilt by poor service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013 via mobile

Four of us on a Saturday night to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant clearly did not have enough staff to cope at this busy time. We were not given menus for some time and had to remind staff to bring our drinks which arrived 30 minutes after we were seated. Things improved a bit and the food was good when it arrived. Zizzis charge a high price for a simple pizza and we expect excellent service and surroundings. Not this time.

“Style over substance”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2013

Our first visit to this chain - and we won't be rushing back. Not a disaster but not that great for the price. Despite arriving at a time when the place was almost empty, our service was terribly slow - over an hour to get to the main course. A pizza was good - lots of interesting topping - but the lasagne was disappointing - lacked herbs to lift it and it came without the slightest hint of a garnish. (The lack of a green or simple mixed salad on the menu is disappointing). The wine - not cheap - was so-so and the tap water that came with it was vastly over-iced for drinking with wine - symptomatic of an over-egging of the pudding that does not arise from a sympathy with the food and wine. Puddings were good but again over-priced. Other reviews mention the exciting climb to the loos, but that can be forgiven as part of the price of preserving and renewing a pleasant building. All in all I'd rather spend my money at a genuine family run Italian that does the basics well - some bread on the table, a decent side salad, traditional ingredients, good house wine, reasonable prices and a little sweet or choc with the bill.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 October 2013

Went to this restaurant some time ago on a hen night and thought it was very good so persuaded my husband to go for lunch.
The serving staff were friendly and helpful.
The Spaghetti Bolognese was very average lots of spaghetti but not much of anything else.
My main complaint is that they did not warm the plates so by the time you get to the end of your meal it is cold. Surely this should be a basic procedure.
This restaurant is not for me.
