The hotel is easy to find and about a 15/20 minutes walk from new st station. The staff are very helpful and welcoming. We were allowed to check in early which was really sweet, our room was very clean and very modern. The bed was so comfortable, we had a lovely nights sleep. Extras such as towels, hair dryers etc can be collected from reception. The wifi is free and very fast which was great for us! The rooms are small but perfect for a few nights to stay. The shower was very powerful and easy to use however everything in the bathroom became soaking wet when we used it... Including the toilet roll... And the water didn't drain very well so everything stayed wet but the entire bathroom is a wet room. There is no telephone is the room either which is annoying if you keep needing things, also there are no tea and coffee facilities in your room... Again only downstairs... I didn't really fancy going downstairs in the morning and sitting in the lobby getting a cup of tea. But overall a good place to stay, those were just points of mine that may not be a problem for others who stay :)

Room Tip: Choose a room with a window.

Enjoy my 3 night stay, very much liked the modern design concept - I just missed a thing to wipe floor after showering - great kind and helpfull reception. Great neighborhood, just round the corner I found the most amazing Indian high cusine restaurant.

Room Tip: I do prefer a room with window

Was in Birmingham for Flatpack Film Festival. We loved staying in Bloc - small and perfectly formed.

The bed was comfy, the wi-fi was quick and we loved the powerful shower.

Is a great place to explore the Jewellery Quarter too. Would definitely stay there again. In fact, every city should have a Bloc!

Thank you for your review.
The reason as to why BLOC does not have any phones in the room is because in this modern day we assume most people to have mobile phones. Should an internal call be needed to contact the hotel reception then there are internal phones by the lift on each floor where reception can be contacted.

Stayed here for a night with my husband and its very cozy.liked the room, cleanliness, mood lighting, freindly staff, disliked the wetroom, lack of storage space.also had to go downstairs if u needed to iron.the irons in the ironing room were a bit poxy they could invest in some decent ones doesn't cost that much.other than that its an 'okay' place to stay for the night.quite central in jewellery quarter.

We stayed here for two nights whilst visiting the gadget show at the nec. On arrival we were greated by a lovely girl on reception. Very friendly and helpful (as were all the staff during our stay). She gave us individual passwords so both our phones and laptop were linked on to the Wifi and we were able to check in a few hours early as our room was ready. Room was compact, but it was clean, cosy and the mood lighting was a nice touch! Bed was big and comfy, extra pillows were provided too. Shower in the wet room was amazing and easily big enough for two ;-). Only downside was no drink facilities in room, but the coffee machine in reception is fab! We'll definitely stay here again.

Some fab restaurants in the area so advise you to avoid Pizza quarter take away! Was cold, wrong order and had to wait forty minutes despite ordering on line. Dubious staff hygiene too :-(

I stayed in this hotel as I was watching a show at the nearby NIA Arena (about 10 min walk) which is very handy. The hotel on the whole was very good; clean, comfy, stylish. Perfect for a night. I liked it so much I planned to stay a few more times during the coming year as I have shows booked at the NIA, however I been put of by what I experienced the morning of checking out. At 8.15 in the morning, the cleaners started to clean and with it making the loudest noise they possibly could; banging, smashing, knocking hover against the doors, the hover being switched on and off every 5 minutes, banging trolleys against the walls. It was horrendous. This woke both me and my partner up, and we couldn't even get back to sleep as the noises were going on for over an hour. Not only did the cleaners make the loudest noises I have ever heard in a hotel, but the lift was very loud and vibrated the walls when someone got in it, especially if your room is by the lift.
I was really disappointed as I was looking forward to coming back to stay, because nearly everything was fantastic but if I'm going to be woken up at that time in the morning I would rather stay else where.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review.
With reviews written like this it helps if it mentions the floor/room that was stayed on/in then the CCTV cameras can be checked and the housekeeper in question can be spoken to.
One thing that has changed since your stay is the time that the housekeepers start work in the morning. Mon-Fri they start at 9am. Sat-Sun they start at 10am.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Bloc hotel is located in Birminghams Jewellery Quarter. The village atmosphere created by its cafes-bars and restaurants is complemented by the business-shopping-arts and sports facilities that are also on its doorstep. We have taken loose inspiration from Japanese pod style hotels which means much larger rooms more akin to a cabin on a luxury yacht with finishes and fittings to match. The rooms are equipped with a King Size Double Bed-luxurious linen-climate control-wet room with monsoon drench shower-Samsung 32inch led flat screen TV and high speed WIFI. Birmingham is of course a centrally located travel hub and for many of our visitors that will be the most important factor in just how quickly and conveniently they can access the motorway network-national rail and international flights. ... more   less
