The hotel was lovely and clean and a great price for the modern look of it. However, that being said....I feel as though it lacked some basic essentials....such as...a toilet scrub, glasses for drinking water or somewhere to drink water for that matter. Moreover, the lack of windows made us feel a but claustrophobic...however with their clever lighting they managed to find a way around it. The staff on entrance were also lovely and inviting, however, in their introduction I felt as though they could have told us a lot more about the time of check out and how house keeping works and if so what time and how to arrange it. Overall this is a lovely hotel and the images portrayed accurate images and the ambient lighting provided a soothing and relaxing atmosphere for me and my boyfriend. The only reason why I scored the hotel average is because of the essentials I thought the rooms ought to have it lacked

Thank you for your review. I will pass on your kind comments to the employees. I would like to know who checked you in as the receptionists normally mention on check-in the check-out time? The check out time is also mentioned on your key card slip and also on the information provided in the bedroom.
Midweek, housekeeping starts at 9am to clean rooms and at weekends they start at 10am. Should you have your Do Not Disturb sign on the door, they will not enter to clean the room. On the opposite side of the sign it says 'Make up my room'. You should not have to organise for housekeeping to clean your room as they should come and clean it unless the guest has told them that it is not needed.
In the wetroom next to the toiletries, there should have been 2 cups in plastic wrappers provided. Bottled water can be bought from the vending machine in the lobby or the tap water is indeed fine to drink from within the wetrooms. The reason as to why a toilet brush is not provided in the room is that some guests find it unhygienic and as the rooms are serviced daily, then it is not needed. Once again, thank you for your review.

Bloc are offering excellent value for money. The location of the hotel is great for exploring both the Jewellery Quarter and City Centre and my room was comfy enough. It was windowless and only big enough for the bed and a tiny wet room bathroom but this is exactly as described in their adverts and suited my needs perfectly. I quite like the ultra modern, minimalist design of the lobby and corridors, too. I do think the place lacks an atmosphere but for the price this is wholly fair. If motivated by price, stay here above all other options! If you're looking for an all-in city break in Birmingham though I suspect there are alternatives which might offer a more comprehensive guest experience.

BLOC are committed to offering smart accommodation at honest prices for the savvy traveller. The concept is based on ideas we’ve adapted from the best designers and innovators from around the world. By injecting some British creativity, we have pushed the boundaries of hotel design. From the build methodology right down to the finishes in each room, we work with the latest materials and innovative techniques. The idea is to build very cleverly using the very best materials whilst still making it as cost-effective as possible. This means we can offer our guests really chic rooms in prime city centre locations at very, very good prices.

Good hotel, great value, compact, bijou call it what you like, comfy bed, nice wet room, flat screen, good lighting. Probably not for those who want lots of room with a wardrobe.
Pretty much say's it all. Would stay again.

Location
Central, in the attractive Jewellery Quarter, 10 minutes fast walk from New Street and Snow Hill stations. Taxi recommended from stations if travelling with large amount of luggage or very late or early, part of the access routes are quite isolated and include steps.

Accessibility
Level access to Reception. Ground floor rooms available but via small number of steps. Lift to all floors.

Staff
Very friendly and helpful

Rooms
Rooms are small - sizes are clearly indicated in the hotel website. For a one or two night stay by a small person, or couple with little luggage they are fine. A larger person or anyone with significant luggage would struggle.
Windows: the cheapest rooms do not have windows. Anyone suffering even slightly from claustrophobia is recommended to avoid. Even at night they feel quite disconcerting. The more expensive rooms with windows are worth the extra and from the 3rd floor there are some great rooftop views.
Standard of furnishing is high, with particularly good showers & enormous towels. Fixtures and fittings are in keeping with size of the room, thus pegs rather than a wardrobe, a simple tiny desk/stool combination, no kettle.

Noise
Street outside very quiet, no traffic noise. No noise noticed from within hotel but I may just have been lucky. Other reviewers have commented on thin internal walls.

In summary, the Bloc rooms are smart changing rooms ideal for those making a brief stop over/spending minimal time in their room. They fulfil this purpose well. They are not intended/suitable for anyone making a longer stay, looking to spend a certain amount of time relaxing in their room or looking for a hotel that is a destination in its' own right

Thank you for your review and recommendation to others regarding BLOC Birmingham. I don't think people realise what a fantastic location the hotel is actually in until they have been and tried the hotel out. I hope you made use of the discounts on offer in the 'Around the Bloc' guide which incorporates some of the amazing restaurants, bars and cafes that are just a stones throw from the hotel.
We look forward to welcoming you back to BLOC in the near future.

Yes, hotel is tiny but perfect for overnight stays. Bed very comfortable, shower excellent, good temperature control in room. All for a decent price. Only downside was that you can hear next room's noises, so walls maybe a bit thin. Nevertheless , would definitely stay here again.

The hotel room was clean and modern. We stayed here whilst in Birmingham at Wireless Festival, the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are tiny, the bathroom has clear glass which is fine until you need more than a wee.....! There are no facilities for tea coffee and no where to hang clothes. The hotel was fine for us as we didnt spend much time in it. The bathroom is a wet room so take flipflops if you dont want wet feet when going to the toilet.

Thank you for your review. We hope you enjoyed the Wireless Festival.
I will pass on your kind comments regarding the Team Members. Along with providing great customer service we also pride ourselves on providing travellers with what they need for a short stay in a central location, combining smart, style-led accommodation with honest pricing.
I completely understand your comments regarding the wet room. The wet room glass is etched in gold so you may only see the persons feet or head if they are in there. There is also toilet facilities in the lobby should you need to use them.
Once again thank you for your review and hopefully you will use BLOC Hotel again should you visit Birmingham in the near future.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Bloc hotel is located in Birminghams Jewellery Quarter. The village atmosphere created by its cafes-bars and restaurants is complemented by the business-shopping-arts and sports facilities that are also on its doorstep. We have taken loose inspiration from Japanese pod style hotels which means much larger rooms more akin to a cabin on a luxury yacht with finishes and fittings to match. The rooms are equipped with a King Size Double Bed-luxurious linen-climate control-wet room with monsoon drench shower-Samsung 32inch led flat screen TV and high speed WIFI. Birmingham is of course a centrally located travel hub and for many of our visitors that will be the most important factor in just how quickly and conveniently they can access the motorway network-national rail and international flights. ... more   less
