We stayed there just one night. Loved it from the minute we walked in. Arrived early than should have. The lovely girls at reception got us checked in early. We had a lovely view over the houses at the back of the hotel. The rooms are little but very well layer out. The bathroom was excellent. There is no bath but an excellent shower. Breakfast was a little confusing. Not sure of to do had to ask lady what happens, once got idea nice basic breakfast but no bacon.

Stayed April 2012 to attend a concert at the HMV institute. Travelled up from London on the Saturday afternoon for 1 night stay in the Holiday Inn Express.

I'll get the negative point out of the way: to access car park you have to do a U-turn at the junction past the hotel (to the north) as Sat Nav wants to take you to a side road next to the hotel.

Now the good stuff! Staying here was cheaper then staying in the central version of the chain by a good £40 on the actual night we stayed. Parking was only £5 for the day and was secure off street.

On arrival we had a room that interconnected to another room whos occupants were quite loud and where banging on the adjoining door. A quick trip downstairs and the lady on the desk promptly moved us with no fuss. The lady at the front desk also brought up the iron and ironing board on request which was helpful.

The rooms were modern, relatively spacious and clean. The hotel seems quite new and the decor is light and vibrant. There is free internet downstairs and free wi-fi in the room.

Breakfast was included which I thought for the price of the room was really good - especially as rival chain wants £8.25 for buffet breakfast - granted there is more choice but the breakfast here did the job. Had cereal, juice, tea, coffee, toast, rolls and hot items of scrambeled egg, sausages and beans. Also had pastry items and fruit ect.

The good thing location-wise about this place is its about 10 mins or less from Bullring and its on the way into Birmingham from London so u get to stop just before the busy area and for ur journey home ur already clear of town. Parking charges are not high compared to london in the centre of town (£2.50 - £3.50 all day, except in Bullring itself). There are also shops near this hotel such as next, comet and a large superstore.

Would definatly stay here again if driving especially as I don't feel the central hotels would be worth the extra over this one.

Stayed here whilst exhibiting at the NEC recently.
ACCESS & PARKING
Difficult to get into the underground/above ground car parks - you have to either do a u-turn way passed the hotel on the A45... or... go around the back through housing estates to rejoin the A45 and access that way. Not ideal in rush hour traffic. Chose not to park underground as the rear of the underground car park had a 'gang' of young lads sheltering there & testing their skateboarding skills right next to the cars... so parked above ground where the rain was keeping them away.
ROOMS & COMMUNAL AREAS
Hotel rather new and reception very efficient. Rooms clean and spacious although some teething issues... kettle only worked if you stood and weighted it down whilst boiling. No handsoap in the bathroom (but this was replenished the next day to be fair). Public lounge/ bar clean and comfortable.
Room 101 - is postioned right above the hotel signage and it rained every night I was there. The rainwater was hitting off the signage or flashing and making the loudest tapping/dripping noise ! so loud it woke me each night & sounded like Fred Astaire was dancing outside the window.
FOOD
The Express Breakfast lets them down every time !!!.... luke warm beans, cold solid scrambled egg and sausages that taste like they have ZERO meat content. Come on HI, either dont have a hot option or provide one that has variety and is edible. I would say the vast majority of people would prefer a rasher of bacon or two rather than bland, fatty, dubious sausages - what is the Express chain thinking of ? This was my 2nd stay at a HI Express and I wont be staying a third time.

Room Tip: Dont accept Room 101 if its raining - you wont get a wink of sleep.... guaranteed.

Thank you for your feedback. We value detailed guest comments such as this in order to improve our hotel. In regards to the group of youths in the lower car park, they were asked to move as soon as a member of staff became aware of their presents and they left without any problems. It seems you were unfortunate in experiencing Birmingham's wet weather during your stay, and that it prevented you from getting a good night's sleep. Should this happen again in the future, please alert a member of staff at reception and we will be happy to move you to a different room.

As you pointed out the Express Start breakfast is part of the Holiday Inn Express brand and not something that the individual hotel has much control over. IHG would be glad to hear your comments regarding the three hot options if you were to submit them through one of their feedback channels.

Once again thank you for your feedback and we hope to see you again in the future!

On approach to this hotel, you might wonder where you are heading as it's accessed through a residential area and right next to a very busy road. However, those worries are soon taken away the minute you walk in. I wondered whether the hotel was brand new as it still smells that way and is immaculately clean. I was surprised that it was about 8 months old when we stayed as it looked like it had opened its doors about a week before! My boyfriend and I joked that we thought our bedroom may have been a corridor in a previous life, as it was very long and narrow, but this was actually quite a quirky feature. We had 3 almost floor-to-ceiling windows in our room which were right next to the main road. We couldn't hear a thing, it was so quiet! The black out curtains were lovely too. I really loved the bathroom, which was a simple yet funky design. It didn't have a bath but instead had a really powerful shower.
I would absolutely recommend this hotel, thank you for a lovely stay.
It's also only about 10mins from the greyhound stadium, which is the reason we came to Birmingham!

Room Tip: Don't be put off by the rooms overlooking the road, we couldn't hear a thing!

Thank you for your positive review, we're glad you enjoyed your stay. You were lucky enough to stay in one of our 'longer' bedrooms which offer great views of Birmingham, especially on higher levels. It's always good to know that the windows and black-outs were succesful in keeping the road noise out and giving you a great night's sleep.

Once again, thank you for your great feedback and we look forward to seeing you again in the future!

Thank you for your feedback. Being next to a busy main road, you would assume that rooms facing the front would be noisy. With the double-glaxing and thick "black out" curtains, noise pollution is kept to a minimum. We're glad that you noticed this and that you got a good night's sleep!

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad to here that you got "value for money" at our hotel. However, please note that, usually, there is an on-site car parking charge of £5 per night. There may have been an oversight on our part on check in or check out which meant you didn't incur a charge. Once again, thank you for your positive feedback and we look forward to seeing you again in the future!
