“Excellent Cadbury World package in a new, modern hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

We booked the Cadbury World package with this particular hotel as I left it a bit last minute and the nearer HIE was booked up (room price v expensive). We got this one for a more reasonable price and they also sorted out our Cadbury tickets. Cadbury don't offer any discount for drivers (30% off for train users) and again, I left it too late to book discounted (more than the 5% their website offers) tickets from a travel agent so according to my research, HIE Redditch offer Cadbury discounted tickets at circa £13 per adult and £9 per child. I am not sure if this HIE sell tickets separately but as a package, ours worked out the same, if not, cheaper altogether. You can phone up ahead of time - on their easily-found-on-Google local phone number as opposed to some other national chains who seem to go out of their way to stop you from ringing the hotel reception - to get them to book your Cadbury tour for your desired time. Their ticketing ppl have access to a different system as what Cadbury online have so even when the CW online tickets had sold out, we were able to get our desired time slot via the HIE's agent.

Our room was all made up, complete with the converted sofa bed all set up when we arrived. In terms of the rooms, the size was pretty standard - a snug fit with the sofa bed pulled out but it seemed more roomy because of the open cupboard and shelves. I loved that things like the bedside table were designed to be higher up to allow for luggage under it.

In terms of the bathroom, we were very pleasantly surprised. I absolutely loved the roomy shower cubicle in the bathroom and hope that this is the way budget hotels are heading - rather than a compromise bathtub or ones that don't age well. The cubicle by contrast looked very modern with its black and white gloss bricks and as it was fully enclosed, was not draughty despite the spaciousness. Also no annoying possibly-of-dubious-hygiene shower curtain sticking to you or trailing water all over the floor. Lots of electrical sockets in the room at all different heights - low one near the floor, one by a bedside and 2 by the desk. Also sufficient towel/ clothes hooks both inside and out of the bathroom.

Mattresses were good although I think I liked the dense foam ones on the sofa bed which weren't as springy. But that is really just splitting hairs as the family had a good night's sleep. We faced the main road but it was quiet enough in the room and because the air conditioning worked a treat, we didn't need to open the windows. I even asked the receptionist how old the hotel was as everything just looked so new but you would never have guessed it was 3 years old. All in all, a lovely stay tho if you are hoping to do Cadbury and can find an offer at another HIE say Redditch, the drive to Bourneville in weekday traffic was a bit fraught to us out-of-towners.

cant fault the hotel! Very nice room and the hightlight was the bed! big enough to fit 3 grown adults comfortably!
Very quiet, clean, tv and nice modern bathrooms!
The breakfast was ok in the morning. standard continental with a few fried food to accompany!
The staff were very helpful too! Had come from the good food show from the NEC and unfortunately the rooms dont have a fridge! The staff kindly offered to store some of food purchases overnight in the fridge which was a nice touch!

The only down side to this hotel is the location! went out at night to get a snack hoping to find a chinese takeaway etc but immediately felt unsafe. The area is quite deprived and seemed to be a popular place for immigrants! walked for 20 mins before finding a substandard chippy so that was quite disappointing!

Overall, great hotel and very comfortable stay, just a shame the area lets it down!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your recent stay with us, I am glad to read you found everything about the Hotel to your satisfaction from the bedroom to the staff being helpful. We do offer a selection of takeaway menus at the front desk which we are happy to ring and place an order for the food to be delivered to the Hotel which means there is no need to venture outside the Hotel if you do not wish to. We hope to see you return to us next time you visit Birmingham.

stayed here for a concert at the nia, although it is a little way away from the venue the staff were brilliant and accessed reasonable priced taxis too and from the venue, even arranged a taxi from the train station at arrival, breakfast excellent, very good value for money, rooms immaculate.

Room Tip: our room was on the side of the building, quiet, and light.

Stayed two nights with my young family and friends.Overall very impressed. The saying 'cheap and cheerful' does not apply here. The price for a family room on a bed and breakfast basis was amazingly great value;very clean and comfortable bedrooms, modern environment, fresh and good choice breakfast buffet, and professional but friendly staff like Kate (who was particularly cheerful and willing to help). One arrival the evening staff were very accommodating by letting us order food even though the kitchen was closing in five minutes. We had been on the road for nearly four hours so this was very much welcomed.Would have given a 5 rating if it wasn't for one of the staff not being aware of the hotel discount tickets for local attractions and I having to insist that he look into it.After realising his mistake, he did apologise.Apart from that small hiccup a great place to stay for a short stay and have recommended this hotel to others.

Room Tip: Had a room to the rear of the hotel which was lovely and quiet.

From checking in right up the checking out the staff were welcoming and friendly. The hotel is clean. Our room was a standard size with a double bed and a grat shower room. Thete was no wardrobe nor a fridge so I would recommend it for a short stay. Breakfast was included and it was ok. Very close to the town.

The Holiday Inn Express is a modern comfortable Hotel alongside the main A45 and between the Birmingham shopping areas of Small Heath and Sheldon. With two levels of parking we chose the lower level that was covered, but the spaces were all quite tight and with additional hazards of the structural columns.

After parking, we checked in at the small reception desk situated in the main lounge and dining area, where a very helpful receptionist greeted us and provided us with our key cards. We found our way to the room situated on the first floor and were pleasantly surprised with the small but comfortable attire. Unfortunately, the TV didn’t work and after phoning down to reception we were soon told to relocate to a room back down the corridor. This room was situated at the front of the Hotel and overlooking the main road and straight away we were put off by the noise. Again, we were moved to a room on the third floor which was comfortable and quiet and the Hotel Staff were brilliant and patient while moving us around.

The room was bright with a comfortable bed, a large desk and had good WiFi reception (free).

We had Dinner in the Evening and although the Menu was quite limited, the Gammon Steak and Chips was large, fresh and tasty. This and the cold glass of draft San Miguel went down extremely well.

Breakfast was the standard Holiday Inn Express fare which is limited and very plain, with the only hot options being sausage, scrambled egg and beans, but we must remember that they provide this for free so we cannot complain too loudly.

All in all this was a modern, comfortable no frills hotel with great staff.
