We arrived at the Hilton to be greeted by Asher at reception who quickly checked us in and dealt with our car parking ticket and was very efficient. His manner and professionalism was very welcoming and relaxed.
The room was excellent and very clean, the beds were comfortable and well equipped with a hair dryer, tea making facilities, iron and safe.
The bar area was well staffed and friendly. We will be staying here again.

We booked an Executive Queen online direct with Hilton which then gives you the e-upgrade option to upgrade to anything from a lake view to the Penthouse Suite. I ticked all options and the prices ranged from £15 to £102.

When we checked in we were offered a Penthouse Suite and decided to take it, it was £102 on top of the already discounted rate of our Queen Executive room at £101.40, so in total we paid just over £200 for a suite normally costing almost £500, an excellent bargain if you want a bit of a treat!

I was travelling with my Wife and 9 year old Son.

The suite was on the 5th floor (executive floor) and had access to the executive lounge. It was room 5212, the Curzon Suite.

Well the suite was pretty big! A separate bedroom with a huge bed and a settee and chairs, leading to the bathroom which had a huge bath, twin sinks, separate shower, toilet and bidet.

The lounge had several settee's and chairs with a dining table that seated 8 people, full size fridge, second TV and a massive patio door that led out on to the decent size balcony with great views across the lake.

Everything was very clean but the whole suite was a little tired, there were cracks along the bottom of the wall by the patio door and in the bedroom there were signs of water damage and cracks by the window. The bathroom had a bit of a bodged repair to the tiles above the toilet.

Overall it wasn't too bad given the rate we paid, but at full price I would expect better.

The executive lounge was great, complimentary soft drinks and snacks (sandwiches and cakes) during the day and complimentary alcoholic drinks and canapés during the evening.

Breakfast was complimentary too in the morning and to be honest we were expecting no more than a continental breakfast, however they actually offer a full cooked English breakfast and very tasty it was too!

The normal hotel price in the restaurant for full breakfast was £20.95 so taking in to consideration breakfast and drinks in the executive lounge for three of us was easily £100 saved!

The rest of the hotel was fine, large, clean with a nice bar area and plenty of eating options. We made use of the complimentary access to the spa and used the pool for a swim.

Parking is quite tight but we found a space easy enough.

All of the staff we encountered we're brilliant, very courteous and helpful.

We would definitely return here again and make use of the e-upgrade online, a brilliant idea!

Room Tip: Make use of the e-upgrade online facility, some great savings to be made if the upgrade rooms are av...

Stayed couple of times recently and mixed experience. Rooms are OK nothing special for the price but I just find it all a bit large and impersonal. Location good and obvious they cater mainly for the conference market. Best bit of hotel for me is the spa complex which is very nice. Had the buffet dinner which wasnt bad but as others mentioned food/drink expensive, again feel its priced for the corporates.

Dear Malcolm

Thank you for your review.

Although we are a large hotel, we do like to believe we offer a personal and welcoming atmosphere for our guests.

Our leisure Club is very popular with its gym facilties, huge pool and spa treatments and i was pleased that you had enjoyed your time relaxing in there.

With regards to prices, I would comment that we are comparable to other 4 star establishments and we do of course have a number of dining outlets within the hotel which can cater for all budgets.from our snack menu to the gastro pub menu in Millers.

I hope we may have the opportunity of welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind regards

Stayed here 3 days whilst attending a trade show at the NEC, perfect location if you are attending the NEC as you are at most a 3 minute drive from any of the halls. This is a big hotel with a big heart, it is not a sterile faceless hotel like a lot of other conf/airport hotels are. The hotel has a huge bar area where people tend to congregate and this area tends to have a great atmosphere, they serve good bar food so you really don’t need to visit the restaurant if you just feel like relaxing. Expect to pay £7.50 for a G&T. surprisingly there are plenty of bar staff and the service was quick and with a smile.
There are some not so nice bits you need to be prepared for, flights from the very close Birmingham airport start at around 6 am and despite double glazing you will hear every landing/takeoff if you are a lightish sleeper. On two of the days we just could not park, we drove around for 15 minutes waiting for someone to leave, the car park is £7.50 per night if you pay at reception and £15 if you pay at a machine. You also have to pay for Wi Fi in your room but it is free in the bar. Queues for check in/ out can be long but they do have 6+ staff at busy times so the queues move reasonably quickly.
Please ask for a double bed, the single beds are really narrow, I guess 2’ 6”, it was the topic in the bar on several occasions, I kept waking as I nearly rolled out of bed, the mattress is OK just way to narrow!
The rooms have floor to ceiling window that open onto a very small balcony, great if you are a smoker. The rooms are standard Hilton, not good not bad but do the job and better than most airport hotels.

Room Tip: refuse a single bed!

Dear Paul

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback in relation to your recent visit.

I was pleased that you were impressed with the atmosphere and congeniality you received during your stay. Although we are a big hotel we do as you say have a big heart.

I was sorry to learn that you struggled to find a parking space. As you will appreciate when the hotel is particularly busy, despite us having over 700 parking spaces, these can fill quite quickly. I would add that all residents receive a discount on parking at £7.00 per night.

I hope we have the pleasure of welcioming you back again soon.

Kind regards

when you find you are going to a hilton, you are expecting a good hotel, bit expensive, very expensive drinks, good rooms, good gym etc. If you are coming here - then the expensive bit is correct, but good rooms - no, good service - well patchy.

My room was small, the venire was falling off, the TV did not work, the room was tired, bed was worn out and not comfortable. I asked reception to fix my TV when I went to dinner - they forgot. The gym is well equipped, but 2 of the 3 rowing machines did not work, in 3 days they did not get it fixed - apart from that it isa good gym.

The prices for drinks are scary, I come from London and even I found them very over priced. The breakfast is good, dinner was fine. But is this a Hilton as one would expect - absolutely no.

If you are going to NEC, I suggest you stay in town and catch the train in every day, much cheaper, much better hotels, much better meal possibilities without driving, good drinking locations etc. Give this place a miss.

Room Tip: make sure it is a refurbished one with a decent bed - mine wasn't. Not able to change even tho...

Dear David

Thank you for your review.

I was sorry to learn that you were disappointed with your room and would perhaps recommend one of our larger room types when you visit next time - I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

I do apologise that two of our rowing machines were out of order during your visit and can advise that we were awaiting delivery of spare parts.

I do hope you reconsider and visit us again in the not too distant future.

Kind regards

We stayed at the Metropole on the way back from a family gathering in Suffolk. we had originally planned to have my 93 year old mother-in-law with us but due to health problems she was unable to travel at the last minute.
We didn't realise that there was a Terry Pratchitt convention on at the same time as our stay with some hundreds of delegates all attending; a large number of them dressed accordingly. I tink I can safely say it is the only time I have ever seen the grim reaper striding purpiosefully through a hotel lobby.
Everything was very busy, but the staff managed superbly - you could feel there is a strong team ethos amongst them, and everything was done with a smile. Upon arrival I was told that as a Diamond member I had been upgraded to an Executive room which was nice and for which we thanked the receptionist who then apologised for only being able to give us a twin room. We said that was no problem at all, we still appreciated the gesture, especially when the hotel weas obviously so full.
We had a swim then headed for the lounge which is normally a fairly tranquil area to have a drink and some nibbles and walked into a very busy room with lots of people there who had obviously had the same idea as us. However the staff there were coping admirably and we were greeted with a smile and made to feel genuinely welcome. I was particularly impressed by the ability to make all feel indiviually welcome but also at the speed and efficiency at which the buffet was replenished. Food allergies / dietary requirements were handled particularly well especially under the circumstances.
To sum it all up - the hotel was very busy which was good for the hotel, but we were made to feel welcome, and looked after extremely well. Excellent customer service from a formidable staff. Well done to all concerned.

Dear John

Thank you so much for such a wonderful review.

it is always pleasing to receive such high praise for the standards of service you experienced and I will certainly pass on your kind comments.

Although the hotel was very busy during your stay with us I am delighted that we were still able to offer you a complimentary upgrade and that you had enjoyed your visit to the Executive Lounge.

We naturally look forward to welcoming you back again very soon and do hope that your mother in law is in better health now.

Stayed for one night and 15 days parking for just £89 which i thought was a bargain.Staff really nice and helpful. The room was spotless and we both had a good nights sleep.Tranfer to Airport takes about 10 minutes and is very professional.would stay here again no problem. The only reason i have not given it an excellent vote is because of the restraunt Millers, unorganised and expensive and no glasses with widgets so beer flat.
