Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel

My partner and I stayed at Hilton NEC during crafts. We had expected the hotel to be a little tired as it was such a big and busy hotel but this absolutely was not the case. From the moment we walked in through the doors it was a pleasurable experience. All of the staff were friendly which you very rarely see these days, from the front of house to the staff seeing to the rooms. When you consider how many pets were allowed into the hotel, which is only right of course during Crufts, it was amazingly clean. I have to give special mention to the lady who worked tirelessly in the Executive lounge, it was incredibly busy as you can imagine with such a big event going on, but the buffet was constantly replenished and she smiled throughout, even having time to talk with guests when approached. Please please pass on our personal thanks, I'm afraid I cannot remember her name but we stayed on the Thu/Fri of Crufts week. Thank you so much, we will definitely see you next year for more of the same.

Room Tip: Go Executive, worth every extra penny!

Well worth the extra cost to stay here at such a busy time. Closeness to the NEC a definite bonus, combined with the usual quality that one can expect from a Hilton hotel. Stayed in a suite and therefore had the ability to relax in a lovely quiet environment. Will be booking for next year!

Stayed here as our company was attending a show at NEC.. arrival at the hotel we were greeted by Dave the most amazing friendly concierge. Checked in straight away and went to our rooms (booked 3 individual single/double for sole occupancy rooms).. opened the door to be greeted by seriously loud banging as the hotel floor below was under refurbishment which we weren't told about. The bathroom doesn't have a door which was quite strange and the shower cubicle was the head board for the bed another weird thing!!

After about an hour of trying to rest I eventually had enough of the banging and went to the lounge was lovely. Food at the hotel was brilliant and the public areas are stunning!

After 1 night we couldn't hack the banging any more and as we were attending a conference we were so tired, reception could only move ONE room which was no use. We were advised the work started at 9am but it actually started at 7.45am until after 5pm which isn't ideal!

Other than the banging the hotel was perfect for what we were there for... and location wise it was a stones throw from Airport and NEC.

Dave the concierge deserves recognition as he was so friendly and lovely, he is the reason we would come back!! I hope he gets rewarded from Hilton for his hard work.

Dear Jackie

Thank you for taking the trouble to post your review on Tripadvisor following your stay at the hotel.

I was glad to see that you had received a warm welcome from our Concierge. We do try and make all guests feel welcome and your kind comments will be passed on to Dave.

Yes, we are refurbishing the remaining single occupancy rooms at the moment and I very much regret any disturbance you experienced as a result of these modifications being undertaken. The rooms are due to be completed within the next few weeks. We do insist that the contractors keep all noise to a minimum and of course no noise or works are undertaken at night. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience you were caused as a result.

Thank you again for sharing your feedback.

To be honest this hotel is the type you'd only use for business type purposes or perhaps to stay pre-early morning flight. Nevertheless it is a very good example of its kind.

From check in to check out everything worked smoothly. All the staff I had dealings with were both knowledgeable and friendly - and in my experience that is not always the case. Hilton it seems have a pretty good staff development programme.

The room itself was fine - it had all the tings you expect and they all worked easily. My food experience was limited to breakfast - buffet style and good and a finger buffet which was also better than average.

In short I'd use this hotel again if I were at an NEC event or had to stay in the Birmingham area for business purposes.

Stayed here 2 nights in March. Check in was pretty good. Public areas were clean and well presented.

Away from the public areas however, I didn't feel it was quite so good.

My room had plenty of space with the usual amenities, but the toilet roll holder and towel ring on the sink were hanging off and some of the en suite decor was a bit tired and tatty. This was also the case for some of the wall decoration and the housekeepers door on the corridor to the lift.

Bangers and mash in the bar was £15 - expensive I think. The problem is that if you don't have a car and haven't time to get into a taxi then you're stuck here for a meal. Breakfast was ok but the food tasted quite dry , as was the fresh fruit.

However, all of the staff were courteous and it was a very quiet room. Having said that, I would probably stay here again.

I've stayed here twice on business the past few years and can say that the executive rooms are much better than the standard rooms. The hotel is decent, but a bit dated and "tired" from being a large convention-style property. On the plus side, the executive lounge on floor 5 is a wonderful hidden gem that you can visit if you book an executive room.

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for providing your feedback.

I'm delighted that you enjoyed your visit to the Executive Lounge, which is a great place to relax after a long hard day.

Our Executive rooms, which do provide access to the Executive Lounge are a very popular choice with many of our guests.

We hope to have the pleasure of seeing you return again soon.

Thank you for your review.

Although we are a large hotel, we do pride ourselves on offering a warm Midlands welcome to all of our guests to make them feel at home.

The hotel has a variety of different room types and size available and perhaops I could recommend one of our larger type rooms might suit you better.
