“HORRIBLE, horrible, horrible dirty smoky hotel. Stained bedding! Yuk!”
Reviewed 16 September 2009

Do not even stay here. The room was disgusting. Non smoking room had cigarette butts outside of window which were not cleaned up. The smoke detector was literally hanging off the wall. The rooms were shabby and dirty. And the bed sheets had big stains on them. On a positive note, the hotel has a lovely pool and a nice breakfast, but that doesn't make up for dirty beds and dirty rooms. Also there is a great free shuttle bus to and from the train station and some of the drivers were lovely, but one (I think his name was John) was SO rude to us. When we asked if he was leaving for the station (as he looked like he was about to drive off without us) he just rolled his window down and growled "get in" He didn't even bother to open the doors for us or help us with our bags! He was very rude and impertinent and actually upset my children with his other rude comments. Fortunately the other courtesy bus drivers were friendly and helpful. Even my kids said it is the dirtiest, smelliest hotel we have ever stayed in.
I would NEVER stay here again.

This is the first time that I have stayed at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham for a Mary Kay Seminar (I have stayed there previously for BMIFC conventions) and I must say that I was very impressed with the hospitality, the standard of the rooms, the service, food, in fact everything.

No complaints at all and I heartily recommend staying there.

Many thanks

Sarah Cook

When arriving at a hotel at midnight after a 5 hour flight you just want to get a quick check-in pleasant service and a comfortable bed and that is exactly what you get at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, also if like me you forget your toothbrush one was provided within minutes, and the following morning you are able to enjoy a superb breakfast with everything you ever dreamt of when you are no longer living in UK.
The service also of the complimentary mini-bus to the airport means a hastle free trip with your luggage and very pleasant drivers.
A perfect place to stay close to the airport without the feeling of being at an aiport.

Apparently this hotel is a four star?!

On entering our room I immediately looked for the mini bar to store my water - no mini bar.

The room was stuffy, and overlooked a flat roof covered in cigarette ends.

Went to have a shower using the two very thin bath towels on offer. There was no shower curtain, there were shower curtain hooks, but alas, the curtain was missing, which meant the floor became a swimming pool.

In this day and age of digital tv, I was surprised to find the ususal 5 channels on offer plus the digital extras eg. BBC 3, and Sky News.

You had to pay for the internet!

And then when we went down to the bar and orderd a small beer and a small glass of red wine we were charged £11.00!

A burger was £14, and don't even get me started on the £7 car park charge!

I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all, unless you don't mind being ripped off!

Stayed here for one night on business. Location is good for the NEC and Birmingham Business Park and easy enough to find from the motorway. Exec room rate was fairly typical of a large chain hotel in the UK but the food and beverage costs are extortionate. A main meal does not come with sides so you're looking at around £20 to have a piece of fish with veg. I ordered pints of tap water with my meal and was charged £1.25 for each one. And the cheapest bottle of red wine on offer didn't give me much change from £30. In fairness the room was spotless, the food was nice both for dinner and breakfast, the concierge was adorable but the receptionists, wow, they need a wake up call to be reminded they are at the Hilton in Birmingham and not the Ritz in London and be a little less self absorbed! And I forgot, car parking is £7 a day even as a resident. So whilst the room rate can be negotiated to the same as the Holiday Inn Express a mile down the road, use anything in the hotel and you pay the price!!

I travelled to the hotel on my own but arranged to meet other colleagues when I arrived. I found the staff very helpful and it was easy to find a place to arrange to meet. The room was very pleasant and clean and had all I required. The location of the hotel was straightforward to find and the car parking very convenient.
I had a very pleasant couple of days stay.

My Husband & I recently visited the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham to attend our annual conference for the Cosmetic compamy that we both work for in a self employed category. We had been recommended to upgrade our room to their Executive level (only an extra £30 per night). This was the best thing we have ever done, our room had been recently refurbished, smelt like new & even had a decent view (difficult when you are next to the NEC & Birmingham airport. The service we received in the Executive lounge was second to none, Tea & cream cakes in the afternoon, alcohol & nibbles in the evening & brwakfast in the morning were all included in the price, together with free newspapers & internet access. The staff were very helpful, not always the case in a large chain hotel & all in all we had an excellent stay. Highly Recommended.
