“A time capsule”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

Fascinating to see the whole picture, from the offices with their original ledgers (and the office teapot!) through to the workshops with their mix of traditional processes and the more 'modern' press. Don't miss the story about the reluctant, long-serving employee and his reaction to the 'new-fangled' piece of equipment brought in to save him lots of physical effort! The city is to be congratulated for its foresight in saving this gem of a time capsule.

“Fab architecture”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

We loved the architecture in this Jewellery Quarter, really harking back to the early to mid 20th century. The jewellery shops are many and varied and the museum is very interesting although you have to book beforehand.

“A gem among museums”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

Before you visit, it's essential to check the times of the tours. If you don't do the tour and just see the displays you won't get into the old workshops, which are really the centrepiece of this attraction.

I have to agree with previous reviewer Anthony H that the woman leading the tour was difficult to follow, as she spoke in a rather garbled way and didn't really answer people's questions.

With the exhibition gallery to browse through after the tour, and an agreeable cafe on the site, you could spend half a day here.

Jewellery Quarter Station is just up the road. However, if you come by train, as we did, note that national rail tickets are not valid on the Metro tram service. (There's nothing to tell you this at the station. And, to the jobsworth guard on the Metro who 'fined' us for having the wrong kind of ticket, thanks for ruining our day.)

Only a fiver to get in. But I'm not sure it's worth that. Two rooms / galleries. But not really much in them.

“School Trip”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

The museum ran a splendid tour on recycling metals and the delivery was top notch!. Children loved the tour (as did I) and the staff were super friendly and very knowledgeable. Would recommend this to other teachers- the big list of workshops available covering more than just history!
