I have visited many times over the years and now take my own kids, we live about 10 minute walk from here so do come quite a lot.

This is a working water mill with great historical/literary significance. Featured in J.R.R. Tolkein's THE HOBBIT and LORD OF THE RINGS novels. You can buy bread baked using the flour ground in the mill.

We visited Sunday just past and it was a free entry event. The mill is interesting to go around and and some good views of the working parts. On this day they were using the flour to make various breads outside in the courtyard, with samples to try - very tasty. We used the tearoom, which offered drinks and cakes. There were various activities for children and stalls of a more creative nature, including foodie ones. Definitely worth a visit for a half day out.

What a wonderful place! Absolutely magical! Nice courtyard cafe, friendly staff and games for the kids to play ( giant noughts and crosses were popular) as well as gorgeous views over the millpond....

I had not visited Sarahole Mill for years but we were all at a loose end recently and wanted somewhere cheap with plenty of room for the little ones to have a run.
The grounds are very spacious and have achieved the good combination of being well maintained but not too preened.
Lots of little hidden walkways for adventures and a stream for paddling.
We had not intended on visiting the actual Mill as we thought our children would be too tired for it and not that interested.
How wrong we were!
There are lots of interesting bits and if nothing else kids will enjoy the adventure of climbing up and down all the staircases.
There was also a good children's part that we could not drag our toddlers from.
We could not find any staff anywhere so did not pay - we certainly would of been happy to though.
There was a cafe open but again no staff anywhere and we waited with another group of guests to try pay the displayed entrance fee.

Lovely day out and we are looking forward to returning.
