Owner description: Welcome to St Martin in the Bull Ring. This is one of the most ancient and contemporary buildings in Birmingham. Most of this Grade II listed church is from the nineteenth century. It was built in 1873 and is an example of gothic Victorian architecture, designed by Alfred Chatwin, from Birmingham, who also worked on the houses of parliament. But St Martin's is much older than that. There has been a church on this site since 1290 and may well have been a simple place of worship here in Saxon times. St Martin's is also a place of worship for a thriving community who refurbished the building in 2000 making it more light and open. In 2009 we created a tea lounge, healing center, and learning and advice service so our hospitality in the heart of the city could be extended. We believe that what Jesus called 'Life in all its fullness' can be discovered right here in the crosscurrents of the marketplace. You are very welcome to come in and walk around.

“beautiful calm oasis in busy shopping area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2013

Nestling close to bull ring shopping centre and indoor and outdoor markets in the centre of the vibrant city of Birmingham is a beautiful old church. Its a very peacefully and calming place to visit with some beautiful features including Victorian floor tiles. As a bonus there is a very good cafe attached to this church. Loved it

“More information please.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013

We had always been meaning to visit this church because you see it whenever you go to the Bull Ring. There was no information at all which seemed a shame for such a historic church . The atmosphere wasn't friendly and was almost threatening.
Café seemed reasonable.
A big disappointment.

“Very Different Church”

A small but very special place just in the middle of a crowed area. The windows are very beautiful. A place to rest after shopping.

“Shopping mall + a small retreat for those who seek it”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2013

The Bull Ring is a huge complex where shops , market , cinemas , restaurants are all in one place with a beautiful historical church. You can't miss the church , it's high tower calls all those who seek a quite moment from all the racket from visiting the shops. Didn't quite expect to see a church in the middle of a shopping centre but it's a beautiful one ! And don't miss the chance on stepping in as you will be sorry !

“Lovely church”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2013

The church here is a nice retreat from the busy shops. On the day I visited there was a pianist playing for thirty minutes, so it made the visit even better. Outside of the church there are plenty of places to eat, drink and shop, for all tastes.
