Booked this hotel at short notice (Wednesday for the Friday) to stay in to get ready for and then stay after a work night out.

Having worked in Birmingham for five years have seen this hotel from the outside on many occassions and having found a good price decided to book for the night. Was local to work, the venue of our night out and New Street train station to get home on the Saturday.

Over the years I have worked in Birmingham have stayed in a few different hotels within the city centre and this was definately the best.

Arrived shortly after five and was welcomed by a friendly receptionist. He was welcoming and the check in process went ahead smoothly.

I then went up to the room and was very impressed with what I found.

The room was very large, with a Victorian feel. The bathroom was also large with a nice powerfull shower.

The bed was very large and comfortable. There was also quite a lot of other furniture, including two arm chairs and a writing table.

Found that the hotel met all my needs. Nice, large and clean room with a nice bathroom in which to get ready and then a nice comfortable bed to collapse into after the night out.

stayed here for two nights. location is brilliant. 15 mins from airport. this hotel is in the centre of all shops, restaurants. bullring across the road. chinese quarter 2 mins walk. mail box 3 mins. lovely big reception area with lots of seating space. staff very nice. one young girl behind the desk however made it quite clear she was just going through the motions, she didnt fit in at all with this fabulous hotel.!!! rooms lovely, spacious and spotless. the bar area on the first floor was quiet but perfect if you wanted to have a relaxing drink. plenty of character and ambience in this room. staff very professional here. bar food was yummy. the only two negatives are 1. the shower in bedroom only supplied either boiling water or freezing water. It cud not be regulated to appropriate temperature. 2. we treated ourselves to breakfast in bed the morn of departure as we heard it was lovely but expensive. £35 + £3.50 . it was terrible. it was as if the night porter had heated up the breakfast from the morning before. Maybe the chef wasnt in that early to cook ours. It definately wasnt prepared by someone with experience in the kitchen. However, minus the breakfast, i would definately stay in this grand hotel on my next trip to birmingham if i wanted to be central to everything. If you want to get away from the modern type "run of the mill" hotels, then this hotel is a gem.

Very well located right beside Birmingham New Street train station, which is probably the best reason for staying here. Receptionist was on autopilot, bored, and with a scarily glassy smile. My suite was really just a reasobably large room, with a bathroom that was in severe need of a facelift. No minibar in the room, and the roomkey failed to work twice. The saving grace was the hotel's "meeter and greeter" who had more personality than the rest of the staff put together. I'm always wary of a hotel where they put up pictures of "employee of the month" as it looks a bit like something the "other" MacDonalds would do. This is a functional hotel, suitable only for a one night stay in circumstances where you really just want a billet for the night.
Next time I'm in Birmingham I won't be staying here.

We made a very late booking (4:31pm on the day), and were hence quite rushed to get across to Birmingham. The hotel is the most centrally located city centre hotel (certainly if arriving by train); it is literally 1-2 minutes walk from New Street station. However, I wouldn't recommend taking a car as the only parking nearby is the NCP which of course is overly expensive overnight.

The hotel has a real grandeur to it, from the moment you walk in from the shopping arcade to the lobby. We were upgraded to a superior room which was a real bonus (I guess because we booked and arrived late), which had a beautiful bathroom and a huge living space. The only two let-downs were that you had to phone room service for ice for the ice bucket, and secondly, you could hear every single squeak of the floor of the room directly above!

The lady on the desk at both check in and check out was excellent, extremely helpful and personable. In fact it is the first time I have stayed in a hotel where every single member of staff greets you and asks how you are, from the maids to the porters. The breakfast is well worth paying the extra £10 a head (if booked in advance/£15-17 if purchased on the same morning), superb selection and apparently award-winning.

In terms of location, we walked to the Mailbox for dinner which only took 5 minutes, and Broad Street is 10-15 minutes walk. You could not be better positioned for the shops!!

I have stayed here a few times. Not a bad hotel overall, what sets it apart is the cleanliness of the rooms and comfort of the beds. A few other little treats in some of their usually more pricy rooms makes this a decent treat for people staying for leisure or work. It is worth looking out for bargain rates though - since the better rooms can be had for rates as cheap as some of the budget hotel rooms. Oh. and location wise, this is perfect for those travelling in by train and spending time in the city centre - and must be a right pain for drivers to get to.
