There is some history in this place. Its the old Midland Hotel, literally across the street from the 'shops' side of New Street station (so great if you are on a shopping trip). Wonderful building from the outside, and initially impressive on the inside. Check in was pretty brusk, a forced smile, mid europen lady 'processed' me in minutes.

The inside oozes that kind of turn of the century travelling vibe, really nice, wonderfully aged. Big stairs and terracotta tiles. Really lovely.

Then to the room. Well it was big and quiet. If you follow my reviews you'll know I make a big deal about USB ports. The score in this one - Zero. The bathroom was fine, bang on 2005. The rest of the room was tired. Tired to the point of being almost retro-chick. Which is a massive shame as if the rooms were in anyway upto the rest of the place, it'd be really cool. The wifi was bang on.

I didn't have breakfast or have a drink.

So its recommended, with the potential for it to be really good at some point.

Room Tip: Internally facing rooms are quiet, if darker.

Executive room. Large room with king size bed, two easy chairs and decent size TV. Big bathroom with two sinks. Dressing gowns and one pair of slippers for two people. Toiletries - a shower cap, soap, shower gel and shampoo - expected more in exec room (conditioner/moisturiser). Unpleasant mould particularly on shower screen. Bathroom door would not stay shut or lock (had to use chair to hold door shut).

Breakfast OK. Toast and coffee served quickly. Hot food served to table.

Overall, given that we got a great B&B rate, stay was good value. Unfortunately hotel just seems tired, especially the bedroom and bathroom. Given the price paid, I would have rated our stay five stars, but mould and faulty bathroom door, cost a star.

Excellent location, adjacent to Grand Central Station and minutes from shops.

Told reception re mould and door problem on check-out, so hopefully these things will be rectified.

Visit for a business function. Location is excellent a 2 minute walk from New Street station the entrance area is awesome but the rooms and the service were very dated. Needs a lick of paint and some TLC

Have just returned from a 2 day conference at The Burlington.Lovely hotel very central for Station, shopping, nightlife etc. Excellent breakfast and good size rooms however very noisy as room overlooked new street. Busker outside playing what sounded like a recorder until well after midnight both nights.I was tempted to give him money to move.Really do feel like the windows need to be improved.Would highly recommend but in a different room.

This hotel is centrally located, opposite New Street station and in the main city centre shopping area.

Reasonably sized room with a comfortable bed. Had to leave early next morning so didn't try the breakfast, but would certainly stay again.
