“Great price, perfect location for 02 academy”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

As other members have said, the ibis could not be better located for the 02, it is literally at the end of the street. Very friendly staff on reception on checking in/out, decent sized room, nice clean bathroom, tv and kettle, also the bonus of a private fenced in carpark at rear, £3 per 24hrs. Approx 10 min walk from some nice bars in and around the chinese quarter, we would definatly stay again for future concerts in birmingham.

We stayed for two nights for leisure purposes. I chose this hotel because of its price, its location and its relatively cheap parking. At such good value I was expecting basic budget accommodation much like Travelodge. In most areas it just exceeded Travelodge but not by a great deal. Nevertheless it suited our purpose. Whilst I have some negative points they were not major issues during the stay and shouldn't affect my decision to return in the future but they are issues which I think the manager should bear in mind to improve the experience for guests. The hotel is more like a motel where the doors to each room go straight out onto an outdoor balcony. This may not suit everyone but I liked not having to go in an out via a reception everytime.

Positives:
- Good location close to city centre. You can walk to the canal and Bullring in under 10 minutes.
- Relatively quite for city centre. On a quiet street with the occasional car passing.
- Good secure parking facilities and cheap. Parking cost £3 per day and you can leave your care until 5.30pm on day of checkout.
- Staff were very friendly and helpful - sorted out a few isses very quickly and politely.
- Clean room
- Bed was very comfortable and I had a good night's sleep
- Nice hot water with a non-fixed shower head plus shower gel

Negatives:
- shower water pressure a bit low
- kettle did not fully boil so had to ask for a replacement which was done immediately
- The bathroom extractor fan ran continuously. It wasn't too loud but light sleepers may want to take ear plugs. I am a very light sleeper but luckily I was so tired that on this occasion it was not a problem.
- key cards did not work on the second night so had to ask reception to resolve

Room Tip: Irving Street is relatively quiet but for extra quiet, you may prefer a room facing the car park in...

Stayed overnight at this hotel again, Would still recommend for a clean cheap and cheerful hotel, but they still have not remedied the lights outside the rooms, though they did turn the one outside my room off this time.

Room Tip: Do not go on the road side

Dear Guest,

Thanks in advance for the confidence in our hotel again for your stay in Birmingham and for you new vauable review.

As due to our motel style hotel it is not beeing an easy task to find to right choice for the lighting as we still have to keep in mind the minimum lumens recommended for safety reasons on an outside environment.

Stayed here on the 10/10/13 as we had tickets for a gig at the O2 which is literally at the end of the road from the hotel, the bullring is a 10 minute walk. The reception staff are very friendly and an assest to this hotel, the rooms are a bit dated but the bed is very comfortably and the bathroom is very clean. The room smelt musty but that might be due to the old carpet in the room, our room heater didn't work but all in all for £41 I would use this hotel again. Thanks to all at the hotel.

We stayed here to allow us to go to a Wedding party in the local area. It's a breath of fresh air against the normal hotel that you could stay in as it is like a Chalet / Motel type setup. The room was clean and functional, the bed comfortable and on the whole the facilities were good. The few minuses were that the shower isn't great and the tea in the rooms is dire - let's face it, if all you can really moan about is the tea it's not that bad.

The breakfast at £7.95 each is a little pricy but it is an all you can eat buffet so you can stock up for the day if necessary. The coffee is very good and the tea in here is good! (Not the same as the tea bags supplied to the rooms).

The local area is a little "interesting" but you are in Central Brum so I guess this is to be expected but you get the chance to view all of this from your cab which is hopefully speeding by on the way back to your little gated community. When you get back if it's after midnight you have to press the button outside to be let back in and then we were met by a security guard who briefly checked our names and room number which was a nice touch - made us feel safe anyway!

Oh, another bonus is that at the weekends you don't have to checkout till midday and they also do breakfast till then too!

This is a budget hotel after all, so you do get what you pay for but we would definitely stay here again. Manage your expectations and you will be more than satisfied with this little gem tucked away in Central Brum.
