We stayed here for one night, was a groupon deal, just fancied hitting the town as we only live just outside birmingham anyway. Rooms were lovely, very modern, had more or less everything you needed, however no shampoo, just soap on the walls that i had to use for my hair in the morning so this was disappointing. We ate at the restaurant and wish we hadn't as the food was terrible, we had the soup which looked like baby food, bbq chicken which was really dry and came with rice and 1 piece of soggy brocolli, also the fruit salad was tinned??? breakfast was ok as far as breakfasts go, my suggestions is book this to stay in and then go to TGI Fridays just over the road! you can get a taxi to broad street for around £5 - £7 or the bus which is £1.80 each and the stop is right outside the hotel but as there was 4 of us it was cheaper to get a taxi.

The hotel itself is a nice, clean, modern hotel with great bathroom and bed etc.
As many others have noted here, the food is absolutely shocking !!
A dark, dingy room with a few tables, and a dull boring set menu containing about 5 choices in each section (starter/main/dessert).

Both myself and my wife had the vegetable soup for starter, and it was actually ok, but when we both followed this up with the breaded pork, things went badly downhill.
Firstly, there was no mention of what came with it, and as it happened it was chips, covered in so much salt you would dehydrate if you ate the whole portion !
The meat itself (well, it said it was meat....) was cold, slimy and tasteless - Needless to say we both had one mouthful and returned both of them to the kitchen ( and went for very bland vegetarian options as second choice, and in fear of what other meat options may be like).

The waitress then came back and said she couldnt understand the problem as the meat was fresh !!! I seriously would not have fed it to the thinnest stray dog passing by, as no doubt even he would have turned his nose up at it !!!

I asked about the fruit salad for dessert, and was told it was fresh - but by this stage I really wasn't surprised when a bowl of best "princes tinned fruit" turned up, complete with the "must have" cherry !

Breakfast the following morning was ok, buffet style, although it had all been under the heat lamps for far too long.

Overall - nice hotel, terrible food.
I would not go back there and would never recommended it purely based on the restaurant, which is a bit of a shame really.
VERY VERY GLAD WE WENT TO THE BEEFEATER UP THE ROAD FOR LUNCH OR WOULD HAVE BEEN STARVING !!!!

Dear Guest,
The ‘seems to be a pattern’ that you refer to you appears to be Groupon deals rather than the food generally. Guests who have eaten from the restaurant’s a la carte menu have been very pleased with the food offered. However, for those who have booked via the voucher deal, it should have been stated clearly that there is a separate set-menu. Unfortunately some guests have been disappointed by this but we have made updates to the set- menu in response to customer feedback. We will continue to improve the offering and appreciate the constructive criticism from guests.

Purchased a groupon deal to stay here for my birthday, which included meal, overnight stay, and breakfast. The room was very clean, too clean as if we had been the first ever guests. Came down in the evening to the restaurant, which isn't actually a restaurant, just a dark, dull room with a few tables in. Was greeted by a lady who spoke very little English, and was handed a menu, not the main menu, but obviously one specific for groupon deals. The choice was dreadful, the first course was stone cold and was sent back. The second course was a pile of microwaved slop, and my husband,s main was served with difference side order. When complained was met with a rather negative duty manager, who for the life of him couldn't see what was wrong with the food. This was meant to be my birthday meal, a special occasion and ended being a complete disaster, ending up having to eat somewhere else and therefore costing me double for the trouble. Three days later and am still trying to gain contact with the manager. Also, upon departure, every person in front of us had the same and/or similar complaints.....I would avoid like the plague.

The hotel itself was great and the rooms were very clean and modern.
We were intially told that it was diffuclt to fit us in to the restaurant and we explained that we didnt mind eating at 8.45. When we went down then there were only 2 tables being occupied.
There was little choice of food and we unfortunatley we had to wait about half an hour for our starter and our drinks came after this which we had ordered at the same time. The food was bland and tasteless and was a huge dissapointment. The breakfeast was good though it was only the meal in the evening that let the whole experience down.

Bought as a Groupon deal on a dinner bed & breakfast deal. Room excellent with king sized bed and modern feel.

Then it got worse. We were told it was difficult to fit us in the restaurant at 7.15 but when we arrived for dinner there were only 2 tables occupied, and half the tables were not even set for eating.

the restaurant menu outside the restaurant looked very good, but we were offered the set menu which had very limited choice. We both chose the Penne pasta for starter and it was probably Tesco value pasta with some bland white sauce and a few tiny specks of mince, with 4 tinned garden peas. My girlfriend originally chose spaghetti with mussels but was told the mussels would be replaced with Tuna.....no thanks....but we then later saw spaghetti with mussels served to other guest who had arrived just after us!

The main course was even worse. We both chose beef casserole with baked potato but it was beef slop with chips and floating in yellow oil. Desert was Pre-bought chocolate cake, and I had sweet crepes with squirty cream, filled with strawberry jam...and squirty cream....yugh!

Finally - they did not have half the wines on the list either and the waitress clearly did not understand a word of English.

Summary - hotel good, restaurant truly horrendous!

An excellent hotel spoiled by the quality of the evening meals. The accomodation was top class; the staff could not have been more helpful; the breakfasts were worth getting out of bed for - but the evening meals were a disaster. For a hotel of this quality why no tableclothes? Why flimsy paper napkins, no water on the table, no bread offered with soup? Why garlic bread after we had eaten the pasta starters, why flimsy packet sugar? The 'chef' seemed to be oblivious to the existence of vegetables and the main course came with only rice or chips! I can have better meals at my local pub for far far less than these meals cost.

Dear Guest I’m pleased to hear that you were impressed with most aspects of our hotel but obviously disappointed that the evening meal was not to your satisfaction. I would like to address some of the specific points you have raised.
The hotel restaurant has invested in very high quality tabletops and therefore the tablecloths are unnecessary -you will find this is the case in most modern eating establishments.
I’m sorry that your table had paper napkins, we normally do use cloth napkins but unfortunately there can occasionally be delays from our laundry supplier.
The menu does state clearly what sides the dishes are served with and if customers wish to order extra vegetables that would certainly not be a problem for the chef.
I do hope that you will consider staying at the Clarion Collection Birmingham again in future and maybe give the restaurant a second chance to make a better impression. Please feel free to give me a call directly on 0121 410 2263 if you wish to discuss anything further.

On a weekend break with friends. This hotel has a good location, good free car park, friendly helpful staff. Immaculately clean throughout. The bedrooms are well appointed, comfortable and modern. The buffet breakfast could not be faulted, plenty of very good hot food, cereals, fruit and toast and the waitresses constantly topping up your coffee or tea.
Dinner was a let down however. Slow service, unimaginative menu and not great cooking (but the house wine was excellent). If we had been on a bed & breakfast package this hotel would have got top marks.
