“Good hotel, Great location but need to sort air con for rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2012

The hotel is located in Brindley Place which is excellent as there are plenty of bars and restaurants and it's just next to canal and not too far from shopping areas. The hotel room is a good size, comfy bed...BUT....the window did not open and the air con seems to make no impact an room temperature so had to sleep in a room that felt too hot which was not great. We had a good room rate of around £45 and would recommend booking at that price as in general its a good hotel.

Room Tip: See if there are rooms that have windows which open, the air condition does not cool room at all

My friend and I stayed here for one night at the beginning of June for a shopping trip / night out. After arriving by train at lunchtime we were a bit early for check in so we stopped for some food before walking to the hotel - a 15 minute walk. A word of warning - we found the hotel through tripadvisor and booked through octopus, but reception had no record of our booking! After a few mins the receptionist returned to inform us that octopus sent confirmation to an old email address so it hadn't been booked into the system. They also didn't have any twins available so we were put in a double. Not ideal but at least we had a room. It got better when we got a call offering us a twin that had come free, happy days!

The rooms are a bit on the small side but very clean and comfortable with all the facilities you would expect (hair dryer, iron, tea making facilities, safe, fridge, toiletries). The mac tv and free wifi are a lovely touch! We didn't eat or drink at the hotel, but the bar and restaurant areas looked popular.

The location of the hotel is great, 10 mins walk down broad st to the bullring and main shopping area, and in the evening there are some lively bars and restaurants literally on your doorstep! We had a very enjoyable stay in Birmingham and would definitely stay here again at the right room rate.

Paid £118 for two nights including breakfast. Room was clean and plenty big enough for two. Had an imac and wifi! The staff were polite, helpful and made you feel welcome.

Brindley Place has loads of places to eat and drink and is handy for the concert hall. My wife wanted to shop but it rained heavily. No worries there, £5 in a taxi to the Bullring. I bought more stuff than my wife!

Had a great weekend and will definitely stay again.

Great location for Broad street & canal area, lots of places to eat and drink locally and in the heart of the nightlife of Brum. Booked at a great rate with no breakfast. Rooms clean, and modern, bathrooms clean including toiletries, spacious shower cubicle(no bath) .Tv, free interne, iron, hairdryer etc all available. Beds very firm and high - the shorter may need a ladder to get in! Only pillows in the room provided were feather asked for a fibre/foam alternative and took 3 attempts before we got there! Staff very freindly and helpful on reception. Parking available under hotel - very limited and tight beware of the posts if your in a large car! £12.50. Our room has a window that didn't open for fresh air so make sure you ask when booking if this is something that you would require( found out too late!)
Have stayed previously when a city inn and would return again at the right rate.

Room Tip: If you want a window that opens ask when booking

We stayed here as we were eating in a local restaurant and didnt want to pay for a cab home - strangely more expensive than staying here!

Check in was easy and swift and we were in our room within five minutes. The rooms are clean and tidy, not massive, but for £79 what would you expect. The bathrooms are small with no bath, just a shower cubicle but again for the money.......?

We were only staying one night and for this it completely served its perpose.

Only quibble was that the air conditioning is poor at best and if you open your window all you get is the Birmingham night life noise. On a hot May night, this could have been better.

Would stay again as convenient for all that Birmingham has to offer.

Room Tip: HIgher the better if its hot!

Stayed here for 2 nights on my first ever visit to Birmingham. Great choice as hotel is well located and could walk to everywhere I needed, great selection of restaurants and venues close by on the river. Easy walk to the new library, town hall and the Bull Ring. Rooms very modern, beds clean and comfy and staff nice. My only mionor gripe would be the bathroom was a tad small, but it was sparkling clean and great neutagena bath products available. I would definately stay here again 100%!

The hotel is situated close to the canal in a very pleasant area of Birmingham. You don't need to stray more than a few hundred yards to have a good selection of restaurants and nice bars to choose from. The hotel was very good overall and the staff helpful throughout, it was very comfortable and I really did enjoy my five nights there. Breakfast is buffet style, but of a good standard and can be as quick or as slow as you want. There are only two things I would change, the first is the Apple/Mac TVs (I would much prefer just an ordinary TV), the other is the room size, adequate for one but maybe a little cramped for two sharing. However, I was so impressed with the hotel and the area during my business trip, that I'm considering booking a couple of nights for my wife and me on a city break.
