“Nice Hotel, Good Service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2014

A good hotel overall, a little out of town and slightly difficult to find as my friend Tom Tom had died. The room was clean and well appointed. Great Apple TV and desk space to work. My only issue was the noise from the street below, which went on until late and started at 5am with taxi's. There was no air conditioning in the room so the I needed to have the window slightly open. Ask for a high floor room.

The room service meal was very nice and quickly delivered. Followed by a good breakfast offer in the morning. Not my first choice for the future, but would have no problem in returning.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an even number on a high floor. This should ensure you aren't over the stre...

We stayed 2 nights B&B over a weekend.
We'd stayed here a few years ago (when it was the City Inn) and would stay here again (although breakfast didn't match previous stay).
You wouldn't come here for character charm, but it's a modern, bustling, city centre hotel, offering good value for a weekend stay

Likes
* Very convenient location for central B'ham sights and nightlife
* Easy to park in separately-managed car park 'next door'
* Clean, bright, well-maintained throughout
* Room reasonable size, comfy bed, everything worked
* Efficient reception staff

Watchouts
* Compared to when it was a City Inn, the buffet breakfast offering (selection and service) has gone down. Previously, it was a real treat including a wide selection of lovely fresh fruit and smoked salmon, whereas now it is Ok but ordinary fare. Also the decor now has less restaurant and more cafe/canteen feel. Staff were pleasant, but rushing around like mad things and the roving tea/coffee service definitely needs improvement as we were left waiting and we wondered why no self-service on this?
* Car parking is still quite pricey even with the hotel discount

A typical modern hotel - nothing special, but nothing wrong. Clean, comfortable, good position, quiet. Pretty good breakfast. You aren't getting the Ritz, but you aren't paying Ritz prices. Recommended

We stayed here for a hen party, it's a great location just a couple of minutes off broad st and a 10 min walk into town. Taxis located right outside the hotel with covienence stores, bars and restaurants minuets away. The rooms are fab, with the comfiest beds I think I have slept end in, and a lovely powerful shower. Breakfast was plenty full, on a self service buffet style. Bar drinks abit pricey over £10 for a large glass of wine, daft as we just went and brought our own. I would without a doubt stay here again as we had a fabulous time, with the staff been very helpful at all times.

Room Tip: You will not be disappointed by any room in this hotel

The title says it all. We really enjoyed our stay. The check-in process was very smooth and the rooms were very stylish, well-equipped and clean. It was a great place and room to get back to late in the evening. The breakfast buffet was unfortunately not particularly impressive though... We had to wait for 10 minutes to be served tea and coffee and then an additional 10 minutes for a refill. Although one chef was dedicated to frying eggs, it took her about 10 minutes to cook a couple of eggs for a guy in front of us. We decided to give up on the idea of fried eggs and settled with the scrambled eggs instead. The bread selection was also extremely poor, with only sliced brown and white bread.

I would probably stay here again but would probably make a fuss about the breakfast to management if it was this bad again...

Convenient for shopping and business, decent rooms and okay food. A budget hotel and not really suited for families or holiday stays. Poor leisure facilities with reception staff that were unfriendly and rude, but restaurant staff that were very friendly and pleasant.

Thank you for your comments about our hotel. At Hilton Garden Inn we aim to exceed guest expectations and therefore I am disappointed with the sevrice that you received from the Reception Team. Please rest assured that your comments will be discussed with all concerned.

Next time you stay with us you should treat yourself to one of our signature cocktails that we offer in Brindley Lounge, or have a tasty bite to eat in our contemporary City Café restaurant.

Booked the room as a treat for two friends as I live locally and accompanied them to check in. Given the key for the room, walked in and it was already occupied! Someone on the bed and someone in the shower. Very embarassing and a safety issue! Reception staff apologised but feel that this wasn't enough.

Friends said early in the morning they were disturbed by staff loudly dragging furniture, reverberating throughout the hotel!

Otherwise fine! Stayed on 26 April, checked in around 11pm.
