Stayed for two nights over Easter weekend and thought this was an absolute find!

Location is perfect in Brindley Place - five minutes walk from bars and restaurants next to canal. Rooms are small but perfectly formed. iMacs in the room are great fun with the photobooth application (although TV does occassionally drop out). Bed really comfy and excellent shower.

The breakfast was the perhaps the biggest surprise. Normal buffet fare for continental fans, and table service for hot - big choice from omlettes to the full monty which we opted for and it was gorgeous! You could tell the quality of the ingredients was impecible.

Hotel bar was on the expensive side, but very attentive bar staff. Doesn't matter when you are so close to the action anyway!

Parking is in secure NCP type carpark next to hotel which is £12 a day, but the hotel stamp your card when you check out and it is reduced to £8 a day.

We booked directly through the hotel website and paid £59 a night for the room inc breakfast which was fantastic value for money and we'll definately be trying out City Inn's in other locations on the back of this.

I managed to book this room for £33.00 for a double room for one night through lastminute.com - Bargain!

Cannot fault the hotel in any way .. Our check in time was supposed to be after 4pm, however we arrived at around 2.30pm and were able to check into our room straight away which was great!

Room was perfect, clean and tidy and everything you could need for a weekend stay.. It isn't a huge room by any means but just right to suit the purpose it was for!.. Bed was comfortable, shower was great and the Apple Mac was a brilliant little feature! We made good use of the free internet use etc even though we were only there for one evening!..
Location is great, we stayed here because we were seeing a concert at the Birmingham NIA and the walk to this was about 10minutes, it was a lovely walk aswell. Took about 15-20 minutes to walk to the Bullring the following morning which was also great..

We did not book to have breakfast however there are lots of restaurants within a 5 minute walk from the hotel!.. We went to Lloyds the following morning for a full english which is on Broad street only a 5 minute walk away!

Car parking was fine, there is a hotel car park underground however this was full on our arrival. We parked in a car park just across the road from the hotel which was good. Security could not have been better in this car park and it costed £12 for 24 hours which I thought was great value for money.

The only one problem that occurred was Fire alarm at 8am in the morning which meant that the hotel had to be evacuated!.. This was not a problem and it was all dealt with very professionally.

I would highly reccommend this hotel to anybody!

i booked this for three nights for my partner and i who has some disabilty issues, i spoke to 'reservations' at length before i settled on this hotel, to make sure we got an early check in and late check out, because she needs to rest a lot.

i am only going to grumble initially, because things did get sorted, but in the interest of being clear...we were assured we could check in at ten a.m, and when we arrived at 1140am the room was not ready.

the initial contact at reception was unhelpful, and my partner was told she would just have to wait, i was sat at the underground carpark waiting to get in with a keycard that didnt work, i rang reception and a very helpful young lady arrived with a new keycard and i asked her for a room, immediatley -as planned, (i wasnt happy) by the time we parked and got to reception they had a room ready for us.

note on car park: very tricky to park, bollards everywhere, i have large vehicle and it was extremely tricky, beware! but very secure car park with reasonable rates at £12 per night. if you park in the daytime you will almost always get a space.

we went up to our room, which was a 'club room', the room itself was a nice size with a queen bed, small table and chair, desk and chair, and wardrobes. its a very modern/contemporary look, scandinavian i'd say...white walls, pale furniture.
a really great design feature is its all 'soft close' drawers/doors, and the entry door s on a hinge so you dont get lots of banging doors at night.

we had a corner room which apparently are the bigger ones, the only grumble i had with the room, is the bathroom is small. very well equipped, the shower is powerful and hot at any time, but realy 'bijoux'! the toilet was literally right next to the door and the bed probably four foot away, so you cant be shy because its obvious what you're doing when you're in there!
the shower cubicle is fine for one, but two is a squeeze, heehee...!

cleanliness is excellent, very, very clean, really good. linen is soft and good quality, plenty of pillows, complimentary robes, oh and nice toiletries too.there a re plenty of hangers in the wardrobe and the room has an easy to use thermostate dial so you can be as warm as you like. it was very comfortable.

apple mac system: wow, i now everyone has mentioned this, but we made really good use of it, its easy to use, free internet browsing and sky tv, but also dvd. we watched a dvd most days and there was a really good range to choose from at reception, probably 200 or so and quite new titles. if the weather's crummy or you arent going out for whatever reason this is a really good idea.

breakfast: we had ours included with the room, you have a choice of continental or full english, when you arrive you are seated straight away, its a really nice open seating area, plenty of room, and nice furnishings keeping with the modern feel.

the english breakfast is very good generally, always hot, one day my egg was undercooked (white was still runny), and bacon seemed bit underdone, but they always ask you if everything is ok -dont be shy and send it back, if not. nice sausage too, plus you can include black pudding at no extra cost. they serve you straight away with tea or coffee and toast, and bfast is there within 5-7 mins or so. very quick. fruit juices on tap.
continental is good too, plently of choice, fresh fruit, warm rolls, croissants, meats, cheeses, yoghurts, and lots of it. there are no restrictions on how much you have.

they clean the tables as soon as theyre vacated so its always tidy too. another good thing is the extended times to eat, right up til 11am on the weekend and 930 week days.

location is great, we walked everywhere, ate out each night, would highly recommend the italian pasta place just down from the hotel, you go past cafe rouge, over the little bridge and its in front of you (by the bronze 'dog turd' thing) , it begins with an 's', cant remember the name but the food and service were 10/10, fast, polite and meal was excellent -i has seafood linguine and a beer and it was about £13 a head. you should book something on weekends or you wont get in anywhere, by the way!!

after the initial upset, i would say the reception staff went out of there way to accomodate us, and were very helpful. the room was functional, comfortable and warm, with high end finishing and an excellent standard of cleanliness.

we only heard a few people n the corridors passin our room at night, no doors, no outside noise -we were on the second floor. i thought this was brilliant considering the location.

also, i found the hotle on lastminute.com, but range reservations directly and managed to get a fantastic deal from them...so think about that, they will often try and help you, or better an internet deal. our room should have been around £110 a night and i got it for £57 with bed and bfast -no HONESTLY.

hope this helps, have fun!

I live just outside Birmingham and decided to book this hotel knowing it's central location to the nightlife and a brief walk into the shopping area. I stayed for 2 nights and got the room (without breakfast) for £72 a night - what a bargain! The rooms are extremeley clean and tidy with plenty of room and lots of little extras. I parked in the underground car park and just walked for 2 days - everything is in reach. Very quiet location despite being central and free internet via Apple Mac was a real bonus. Nice to see a stocked mini bar in a hotel these days too

We stayed for 1 night on the 27th March and were on the 3rd floor. We had paid a little extra on the website for VIP amenities which included early check in/late check out, 2 free drinks at the bar, and breakfast in the morning (paid approx £110)

The Room was very spacious, clean and bright and the furniture was of good quality. We loved the handwritten card and complimentary box of chocolates and bottle of wine waiting in the room (part of VIP deal?).

The room offered:
> Double Bed
> Bathroom (shower only) with showercap/Shampoo/ShowerGel/Soap/ Tissues
> 2 x Bathrobes
> MiniBar and Snack basket (crisps, nuts etc)
> Electronic safe
> Iron
> Hairdryer
> Apple Mac - Contained wide choice of TV channels and free web access
> 2 x glasses, bottle opener and Ice bucket.
>CD and DVD library (stored at reception)

We stayed for a concert in the NIA which was literally a 3 minute walk away but would be well located for any of the concert/convention sites located near to the NIA. Broad Street is round the corner offering plenty of eating choices as well as convenience stores and shops.

We used the hotel car park which was charged at £12 a night (this felt a little pricey) or if thats full an offer with the NCP car park nearby is available. It should be noted that the hotel carpark is underground and is very narrow and tight - most of the pillars had scrape marks on them so the smaller your car the better! It's also a fair set of stairs up to the hotel from the car park (didn't see a lift if there was one) so parents with prams etc may struggle a little.

The reception staff were very good, quick efficient and bubbly and the breakfast staff were also friendly.

The winning feature for me was the Apple Mac in room. This functions as the as the entertainment for the room, allowing DVD and CD's to be played as well as offering a good mix of TV channels including Sky Sports, BBC, ITV etc and using the remote and keyboard/mouse you can surf the web.

We ordered room service before the concert and the food was hot, well cooked and the menu had a good mix of options.

There was a fire alarm on Saturday morning for which the entire hotel was evacuated but it was dealt with well and on check out the receptionist made a point of apologising for the inconvenience and also offered us the option of leaving our car in their car park whilst we explored Birmingham centre.

Overall this is a gem of a hotel and one of the best priced hotels I've stayed in within the UK - I will happily use the City Inn again and recommend it to friends and family.

1 night at the City Inn for leisure was perfect as me and my partner just wanted local restaurants and bars and to be within walking distance of the main town centre.
The rooms impressed me with the small touches - things like corkscrew and ice bucket. I couldn't find the hair-dryer but it was in it's own little black bag in the wardrobe. Everything has it's place. oh and MAC computer for internet that also does TV, radio, and has an excellent sound system.
We came back to the hotel at about 12/1am and found ourselves in the hotel bar where we found the bar tender and manager. we were really impressed with how genuine the staff were and how entertained we were with the cocktail making lessons at 1 in the morning! we said then that we would leave good feedback of the hotel, and totally recommend a few late night drinks in the bar there. one of the top cocktail makers in the country i think, and i was blown away by what he could do.
highly recommended!
