Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport
Ranked #56 of 118 Hotels in Birmingham
Reviewed 23 August 2010

We would describe this hotel as OK. It represented good value for money and offered a transport bus (not tried by us) to eh airport at a reasonable price.

Clearly a lot of work has been done since Holiday Inn took it over, however it does give the feel that it is not quite finished. The room was pleasant enough, albeit smaller than some other holiday inns.

The swimming pool was pleasant although we would have preferred some natural light (it is in the basement) and the music played was very limited in variety (seemingly one CD set to continuous). There were no lockers and you had to take your clothes to the pool side. We were told that lockers were on order but perhaps it would be nice to have a sign explaining this.

Some broken floor tiles outside the lift in the basement and elsewhere in the hotel were a serious trip hazard. To sum up, we get the feeling that they had rushed to get guests in, when perhaps they should have completed all works first.

After reading some of the reviews on here I was dreading staying here even if it was for 1 night. However the hotel was great, the staff were friendly, the room was newly refurbished and clean. The only reason I marked it down for the room was that the view was of a brick wall and there were a couple of wires in the wardrobe left hanging. But neither was a big issue for our 1 night stay.

We ate in the bar and half way through the fire alarm went off so we had to wait outside for about 30 mins. It was a false alarm and the staff tried to get us back in as soon as possible. As a result our meals were cold but they were changed for us on our return.

The shuttle works well, you take your car to the car park and are brought back by the shuttle driver. You KEEP your keys so no issues with the car being moved etc. When you return to the UK you tel the hotel and the shuttle collects you. No Hassle.

We'd use it again.

After a rubbish week at work we fancied 1 night away so Birmingham Airport came up as the best deal even though it was a 250 mile round trip from home for 1 night.

Easy to find as per directions on there web site, and free parking over night for guests.

Room was in the older block, but I guess if you pay more you get more. Absolutely fine, clean and few hairs on the bathroom floor but nothing a tissue wouldn't sort out. TV was dated but I wasn't there to watch TV.

Best of all was the service, food in the restaurant for both dinner & breakfast and best of all the pool was fantastic, used the gym, pool, steam room & Jacuzzi on both days and it was so relaxing. Even the shower next to the pool has scented water (peppermint, lavender). There where free towels to use and the changing rooms and pool side was lovely and clean.

If you want to go into Birmingham there is a limited stop bus 900 outside the hotel on the main road, we didn't release this until we came back from the city centre and we paid £5.00 to park at the train station at the airport and then paid £2.80 return on a fast train into the city which took 7 mins.

If your flying from Birmingham you can pre-book the shuttle for £2.00 each way or again the bus 900 goes from the airport bus station to outside the hotel.

Have a great time we did and will definitely go back.

I stayed here in July with my child and husband. We found the staff very accomodating, checkin very easy and the swimming pool great fun.
The food was amazing and the room was clean, well presented and had everything we needed. There was no flat screens but still very fresh and great value for money.
Even though it was busy we still got served in the bar quickly which was great as I had my daughter with us. The shuttle service took us to the airport and was very effecient.
If you are travelling out you must stay here, will be back again in September.

I never actually got around to staying here, I booked through booking.com and had to put my cc number down for a guarantee however it clearly states your card will not be charged. I then cancelled and booked premier inn as it seems to be a better hotel than here. There is supposedly no charge for cancelling 24hrs before (and we weren't due to stay until sept). Had a credit card statement arrive and turns out holiday inn have charged me for the room. Upon ringing the hotel i was transferred between 4 different people before i eventually got put through to accounts. 1st they claimed they could not find any booking details, then they found it and told me they would have to get the manager to ring me (which i am still waiting for). the girl on the phone was extremely rude when i asked why it had been charged in the 1st place and started muttering under her breath. all in all do not even risk booking a non pre-paid room as they will still take money from you when they shouldn'b be doing!!! it's disgusting that a company who have a good reputation worldwide are damaging themselves with properties like this.

Thank you for your comments, we are obviously shocked and dissappointed to here of the incidents you found when booking a room at our hotel. I can assure you that we do take these issues seriously and all mentioned have now been looked into and are fully resolved.

The positive was the gym was very good but that is about it. I have been a Priority Platinum members for years so have experienced many Holiday Inn hotels and this rates as one of the worse. It was clean but that should be expected so no extra credit given here. I only tried using the bar once but there was no staff there. The room was small and dated, e.g. no flat screen tv and very limited channel choice, the room keys kept failing so had to be re-set which was inconvienient but the worse thing was extremely soft beds which really effected both mine and my wife's backs.

This is the third time I have stayed at this hotel over 3 years, I was worried that with the other reviews previous, what was I going into, how wrong they were it was good no it was better than good, I arrived with that welcome smile from the Male receptionist, we checked in and they as usual asked for the credit/debit card I knew what that was for, we were given our key card and was told where our room was , they also advised that with the Football on the Flight Bar would be busy and therefore advised me that the restaurant was available, we opted for the Flight Bar it was not that bad when after showering and resting that we found the Bar was busy but we found a table, we ordered from the menu and within 10 minutes the food was set down to us.

Our room was situated on the 3rd Floor - room 320 which was at the back overlooking the private airport hangers- not a sound came from there although when you opened the window you heard the sound of the aircraft engines, a good room for any Aircraft Spottersour room was immaculate just as we expected from the Holiday Inn we did not find any knickers or anything unusual in the room , it was cleaned everyday, clean towels if required, the only problem we had we could not contact the hotel when we arrived at the Train station for the courtesy mini bus to take us back to the hotel as the hotels phone was down for the duration of our stay.
Check out was the same as checking in with that smile, we found everyone friendly especially the older lady in the break fast room (sorry for using OLDER) , this person came over every morning and asked if everything was ok , I had my hands on head , elbows on the table and she came running over thinking that I was unwell honest I was thinking. We visited the pool and gym but did not use it, there was nothing lying about everything was cleared away there was no DUST as the previous moaners stated.

THANK YOU HOLIDAY INN COVENTRY ROAD FOR MAKING OUR WEEKEND GREAT AS THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME MY WIFE HAD STAYED AT THE HOTEL. pity Virgin Trains could not have taken a leaf out of your book - with your CUSTOMER SERVICE.
