“What a building!”
Reviewed 11 November 2012 via mobile

I seem to praise most places that I stay at but I guess that's because I use Trip Advisor to find them and it works! This Grade 1 listed building seems to be trying to attract the Wedding market which is presumably far more lucrative than the profit from the extremely modest prices they charge for a room (mine was in the Brew House). The whole experience was comfortable and relaxed but two gripes: the smoked haddock for breakfast was rather dry, grilled rather than poached I suspect and the toaster is a disaster. What would it cost to put in a good quality automatic toaster which doesn't burn the toast on one side and leave it as bread on the other?

My partner and I stayed at this hotel as a result of a special deal, which included one-night accommodation, two-course meal and entrance to its National Trust gardens. I don't want to repeat what most reviewers have already said but I'd like to add our own thoughts about our experience.

There's no doubt that the hotel is really impressive both in size and in looks. It really has that wow factor as soon as you drive in, through the main entrance, as you see the front facade of the hotel before you turn left into the main car park.

I agree that our dinner too was delicious but that the cooked breakfast did not look particularly inviting. To be honest, toast, cheese and cooked meats or cereals, with yogurts, fruit, fruit juices and teas/coffees were simple but enough for us. The equipment was a bit old with a toaster that needed to be manually set and either burnt the toast at low settings or only toasted one side of your slice of bread.

We found that service was generally attentive bar one occasion. When we were hoping to order some drinks from the bar, the one available member of staff spent longer chatting to two other guests (or maybe workmen?) than serving us. A distinct sense of invisibility overwhelmed me for about 5-10 minutes...

The gardens were definitely well worth our time though. About these, given the deal we had, it surprised us that they were not supervised so, in fact, we didn't seem to need this as part of the voucher - no one asked us to see any booking to go in. The grounds are large and maintained by volunteers. The work that has been completed is excellent and if we do go back, I would be really keen to see what they have done to the rest, including the holly maze. Although this does need some TLC, please have a go at it because it is one of the best small mazes I have tried - pretty hard work actually!

All in all, it was a good experience. We enjoyed our stay but after first impressions, we felt that there were some gaps, some in service, some in catering, and some in the external areas you don't immediately see, which do need some refurbishment work, particularly near the Brewery House, where we stayed. I mention this because the main building is beautiful and it would be amazing to see the entire 'hamlet' in full splendour! It'll be about money, though, I guess.

On a final note, and through no fault of the hotel, it's difficult to ignore the loud air traffic noise that comes from the nearby airport. Sadly there's little the hotel can do but it is a shame. If you think it may trouble you, speak to reception. I'm sure they'd be able to help or move you somewhere quieter.

Room Tip: I've heard that the rooms in the main hotel are quieter. I would try to choose those if they blo...

This hotel offers all the luxuries of an expensive hotel in fantastic surroundings without breaking the bank. On arrival the hall is presented beautifully, staff on the front desk are very helpful and gave us the low down on the area, and ammenities. Although we have stayed in Birmingham before this is slightly further out of town, but is only a 10min drive to the center. Our room (superior) was spacious and clean and offered scenic garden views. En suit walk in shower is modern and finished to a high standard. A real bonus that many hotels seem to lack was the tea and coffee facilities within our room. We were advised of a full english breakfast and were very pleased with the variety of food and service. There are many reasons why this hotel would fulfill a visit to Birmingham, we will be returning.

We loved our stay at this magnificent hotel, it really is stunning especially the Devereux room. We can't wait to stay again. The room was grand and the bathroom was huge, the high quality of the refurbishment has restored this beautiful building to it's former glory. The staff were friendly and efficient.

My wife and i have just returned back home after a 2 night stay at the hotel, we booked this as we were going to a concert at the LG Arena ,bit far out you may think but the hotels around the arena were very pricey wanted extra for parking and a breakfast, came across this little gem by luck really paid £104.00 for 2 nights including a very good breakfast so the money we saved more than paid for a return taxi to the concert. We stayed in the Brew house which is a annex at the side of the main hall less than a minute walk away. The room was very clean with a most comfortable bed, en-suite bathroom was modern and a good size, bit chilly at night but it is October so turned on wall heater after 10 mins it warmed up nicely..Breakfast consisted of cereals/toast /fresh fruit/cold meats/cheese/danish pastries/full English, something to please everyone, waiting staff could not do enough for you and were also very pleasent..
When we arrived our room wasn't ready ,we could make this a negative comment but we sat in the lounge and enjoyrd a complimentary drink from the bar.I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would stay there again GIVE IT A TRY.

stayed at this "hotel" on saturday 26th for one night - I would warn ALL of you to think twice before considering this hotel - complete and utter scam merchants!.

We paid £80 for a luxury double room and paid an additional £10 for an upgraded room with views of the garden - specifically in the main house. You can imagine our upset when we got there and found that not only had they put in the another block but the room bore no correlation to the description - for example - was supposed to have a luxury en suite bathroom - but it wasnt, room was supposed to have ipod dock but it didnt and well as for the views - not of the garden but 2 skips and a rubbish dump!. Room was freezing and hadnt warmed up until we left the next morning - had to wear my coat to goto the loo in the bathroom.

Of course we complained - however they said there was nothing they could do - when I pointed out the description was fraudluent under the trade descriptions act they merely shrugged their shoulders - when I asked about the promise of the upgrade which we paid for they said "well we have a wedding booked" so what can we do? Talking to the wedding party - they booked it 9 months in advance so the hotel damn well knew there wouldnt be any decent rooms left for us as they were all snaffled up by the wedding party.

I am shocked and appalled at the treatment - to make matters worse we were unable to have breakfast as they only started serving at 8am on a sunday and we had to be in Bham for a wedding at 8.30am meaning we spent most of the wedding day starved!.

The website is incredibly misleading - you wont get ANY of the rooms that they show photos of - they will put you in the block which is not part of the main hotel and involves a good 5 minute walk with your luggage - and the lighting is terrible so we must have spent 15 mins trying to find our room. All I will say is the room was clean - but freezing cold and not worth the money we paid.

I have complained to the manager in writing and late rooms - yet to get a response - were so aggrieved we have complained to local trading standards as personally I think its fraud to pass off a room that doesnt contain key things that they say are in there.

So guys - be careful when you book - its a small privately run hotel and they can get away with basically shrugging their shoulders.

Oh we ate there that night - starters @ £7 - dessert @ £6 for a slice of average cake - I had a steak for £16.50 which was pretty good to be fair.

Room Tip: insist on staying in the "castle" not the outlying awful buildings - make it conditional a...

Me and my sister stayed at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel for 4 nights in June.
We drove from London and the hotel was straightforward to find.
When we drove through the gates the view of the castle was amazing,
There was plently of parking for the duration of our stay,
Check in was smooth, they had our room ready.
We arrived in the evening so after checking in we thought we would go down for something to eat. There was no one around in the bar or restaurants. We had to look for someone to ask where we can get something to eat. Not too long after we were seated in the main restaurant and had a lovely meal.
Breakfast was suffice each morning.
we were out on a course all day so only really had breakfast every morning and then came back at night to sleep.
Room was spacious, clean and perfect for our stay,
The decor of the whole hotel is amazing.

Overall a great stay but I think they probably need a few more members of staff as it was the same person who checks guests in, takes orders for breakfast etc. Due to do this the standard of service can fall a bit.
