This place looks impressive as you drive in, an old national trust type building. Reception is a desk plonked in the main hall, manned by enthusiastic staff. We were billeted in the renovated stable-block, which mean we had to leave the comfort and warmth of the hall and trudge across to an outside accommodation block to find our room. Upon arrival, the room was cold, as it obviously had not been occupied for a while. We had to put coats on every time we left the room. The room was very clean and modern, but it lacked character (eg not pictures on the wall). The bathroom was cold, large-tiled throughout and no heater.

The staff here are very polite and helpful. We found them a bit too enthusiastic – they constantly ask if we needed anything. When we entered the restaurant for diner we expected the usual hotel menu, but unfortunately they only had a very limited choice Christmas Menu; soup, pate, exotic fruits to start then fish, turkey and a veggie main. Three pudding choices to close. For this they charged £32.50/head. The starters were disappointing, clearly concocted to make the chef’s life easy on a busy party night – a slab of pate straight off the supermarket shelf, with a meagre slice of melba toast. The accompanying roll tasted “cheap and dry”. The turkey diner came plated; we were not asked if we wanted gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing etc...it was just all on the plate. It was hot and the vegetable were fresh. The “lemon tart” was more like a crème brulee, but tasty enough. The service was quick and efficient; not surprising given the “ready meal” style food.

Breakfast was nice, hot and again well served by attentive staff.

This place could be really nice. It has pedigree, is comfortable and very clean. Unfortunately we found it lacking of all quality (decor/food/accommodation arrangements), which is what it has to provide for the price they charging.

Room Tip: Get a room in the main hall.

Like many others, we booked a £99 Groupon one-night stay at this hotel. It was to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The reception welcome wasn't anything particularly memorable. In fact, there was a wedding being set up at the time and we felt a little bit like the staff were maybe distracted with that.

However, we found our way to our room, up a number of stairs and corridors. It certainly had the character feel of an old mansion, which is what we wanted. It's also been well renovated and, though there are a number of stairs in the place, there's also a disabled access lift for those with mobility problems.

The room was very nice. Quite small, but well appointed. However, though we'd asked for a garden view room if possible, they were only able to give us a room overlooking a back car park with a bin store at the end. For our wedding anniversary, we'd hoped for something a bit more romantic than that, so we decided to be cheeky and ask whether it would still be possible to be given a room with a better view. The manager was very understanding and asked us to wait while he tried to arrange something better.

It took about half an hour, during which we had a drink in the bar, but when he then took us to the room, we found that they'd given us the second best room in the house! It was called the 'Devereaux Room'. It was a huge dark wood panelled room with an enormous bed in the middle, but the highlight was the bathroom: it was almost as big, with a gorgeous walk in glass shower, standalone bath and two sinks. It was very special and we loved our time there. The funny thing was, though, that it had exactly the same view outside, just a floor lower! We certainly weren't going to complain this time, though...

The deal included the evening meal, which was enjoyable (though I think the wife's meat was a little overcooked) and breakfast, which was fine. Overall, the staff service felt like that of a new team learning the ropes a little, which I think was to be expected because the hotel hadn't long been opened. They were always very polite and helpful, though.

Overall, we had a really lovely time and we particularly appreciated the staff's efforts to bless us on our anniversary. We'd certainly recommend a short time there. It's located in fairly urban surroundings but, because of the big gardens, it is an enclave of its own. Worth a visit.

Castle Bromwich Hall has retained its historic feel when being renovated and turned into a hotel. The rooms in the Brew House are good value for money and nicely furnished. The finer more unique rooms are in the main building and are furnished in feel with the age and theme of the hotel. Staff are very helpfull and we use this hotel a lot for business colleagues and guests from the company where I work

booked a groupon deal. arrived to a lukewarm reception as staff were setting up for a wedding next day and waiting to see the hotel on a local tv station that night. felt that my mother and i were a burden from the minute we arrived especially when the word 'groupon' is used. Major problem groupon had accidentally cancelled my voucher and not re-instated. the receptionist made me feel like a criminal. As I had my mother in her seventies with me and we had just travelled for 3 hours had no choice but to ring groupon and try to sort it myself. finally groupon who were helpful agreed to refund me the £99 i paid and I would pay the hotel. fine I thought but the receptionist told me the room rate was £169 NOW! Okay Groupon said they would credit me a groupon voucher for £70. What choice did i have. Half an hour later and not even offered a cup of tea and I had to use my mobile to sort this mess out. NOT HAPPY. room was in adjacent block but it was clean but a hell of a walk up the steep stairs with even just 2 overnight bags. No help offered. Dinner was really nice. very friendly waitress. Breakfast was very average. More like a cafe standard and staff at breakfast very rude. Was not told at all about the gardens at this hotel and there was no literature in the rooms about it either. To be honest we could not wait to check out. This may be an impressive hotel but the management really need to work on customer service big time. On my return I emailed twice re my treatment made even worse by email from hotel following week offering me ANOTHER £99 break. Great I didnt even get that the first time!!! Had no response from my 2 emails until i asked for a response directly or would they respond to me via Tripadvisor once i had done my review. Finally a response saying taht they had made staff changes and I could have a 50% discount on my next stay making it £99!!!!!!!!

I requested a room on the lower floor in the main bulding, our room was on the 3rd floor!
My husband has heart problems, so it was me who had to do all the carrying from the car to the 3rd floor which is quite a distance when carrying bags etc up all the stairs, this was quite exhausting.
We decided that it was not worth making a fuss (which is unusual for us) as we were only staying one night and had to be ready and out for the eve by 5.30pm.
Our room was very small with a standard double bed (room 304) and the heating is timed, so our heating went off mid afternoon on a cold/wet day.
The Sunday paper that i put on my check in sheet was overlooked so was not ordered, which was a dissapointment on Sunday morning, as sadly that is what we look forward to when we manage to escape for a break.
Breakfast was okay. Staff were lovely. Hotel was clean.
We paid £99.00 for one night, so not good value for our money.

Room Tip: Take a heater with you, as the plug in heater in the room kept switching off.

We were given a Groupon Voucher as a present for this hotel. You cannot fault impressive first impressions as you drive up to the hotel and as you enter it.

What they did not put on the voucher was the fact that your room is not in the main hotel but in the annexe. Although the room was nice and it had been recently renovated. It was very small. The signage to the rooms was also not clear and difficult to see in the dark. We wandered around for 5 mins before finding a door to get in.

The food was delicious the service was to a high standard. We could not fault any of that. Overall it's a beautiful place and if you want a really nice quiet rest with lovely food then this is place
