“Good Golf poor Hotel”
Reviewed 27 July 2011

I went here with a group of golfers for three nights and upon arrival everything seemed fine rooms was a twin double which was OK by 4 star standards but nothing great.
Going then straight out to golf and played the Aylesford course which was fine but had a lot of road noise from the adjacent motorways although its a good course for all handicaps as there are some testing holes (once you know where you are going).
The bar area was in keeping with the hotel but the service was slack and trying to get a drink was difficult and if you sat outside trying to get waiter service it was poor so you end up getting the drinks yourself.
The evening food was very poor and although a large group (28) I felt like we were an inconvienience and they tried to get us fed and out as soon as possible. The quality of the food for the price of the stay was diabolical and comments were made to the duty manager who's response was a free bottle of wine - I don't drink wine so not really an option. There was however a promise of better food to come the following night, with a Chinease Extravaganza well waht a dissappointment that was, smoked salmon and prawn salad (buffet) with potato salad etc. When I asked if this was the Chinaese I was informed that it was main course only.
What was set out was a complete insult to Chinease cuisene soft tasteless noodles, sweet and sour pork that contained the breakfast left over bacon, soggy fried fish on a bed of stewed peppers, New Potatoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and rice that you could pebbledash a wall with.
Needless to say it was inedible and a very large number of complaints were made to the duty manager and when asked if there was an alternative they tried to charge for it - speechless.
The food the following night was a bit better but again we seemed to be an inconvienience.
I have stayed at Marriott hotel all over the world and never have I had food and service like this - the cost of staying there is high and you then expect the service and food quality to be eaqually high.
Breakfast was Ok and what you would expect but if you are playing golf early and at breakfast at 7am you would expect the chef to be there to cook omlettes etc fresh as thia is part of the service. I asked when the freshly cooked option would be available I was told not until 8am - very odd.
The golf on the Arden course is excellent and the green staff are to be congratulated on the high quality maintainence of it. It is not a course for high handicappers as many of the holes have long carries to the fairways and lost balls would be a common problem. The greens are fantastic and need a good look at to try and convert the putt. It has the ability to made agood short game player look very silly.
Overall I thought the golf was great but I would never stay at the hotel again, look for another close by and play the Arden

Stayed here whilst visiting friends. Did not get a good nights sleep due to the weddings that were going on, not sure how many weddings but every where you turned there were kids running around. Not ideal when trying to catch up with some old friends. Tried to get a room move later on to avoid some of the noise but met with no success from reception. Food in restaurant was okay, nothing special but enjoyable. Over charged on drinks bill next day at reception, took about 5 mins to rectify no apology given.

My wife and I stayed here recently for 2 nights while attending the British GrandPrix in Silverstone.
The hotel is in a great position, far enough away from everything to seem your in the middle of the country, however is only minutes from all the main routes both north and south.
Our room was both clean and spacious with a view over the car park at the front.
The only small issues I noticed was the lack of any in room safe which I did find strange for a large 4 star hotel, no ice machine (Ice was brought to the room by room service) and no air conditioning.
We did ask at reception if we could get ti breakfast slightly earlier than normal so we could leave to see the GrandPrix, we were met with a firm no. If we wanted an early breakfast this was by room service only with a charge attached. A little disappointing as we only wanted to be 30 mins earlier?
These however were small things which didn't detract from what is a lovely hotel in a great position.

We have stayed in Marriott hotels around the world and this certainly didn't live up to their usual standards. The service in the clubhouse bar area was patchy and on one occassion we were ignored completely. The room was quite nice but unfortunately they had weddings on both evenings and our room was overlooking the marquee and the noise was very loud. When we rang reception to enquire what time it was going to end we were told they would call back and let us know. The call never came.
The food in the restaurant was okay but not good
The saving grace for us was the golf which was top quality and I'm sure this is what keeps people coming back. I really think that Marriott should retrain some of their staff in this hotel.

Stayed at the Forest of Arden with a big group of golfers for 3 nights. The Aylesford course was average but a lot of road noise the whole way round. The Arden course was good although a difficult course for the high handicapper. There was road noise but less than the Aylesford.

The golf experience was severely let down by the restaurant food – it was the poorest standard food I have experienced in a 4 star hotel.

We were talked into experiencing a special Chinese buffet. It was diabolical and included boiled potatoes. We were offered free wine to compensate – but it was no compensation. The next two nights were almost as bad, with all 3 nights being the worst 4 star hotel food I have experienced. Although we complained, they seemed incapable of getting anything right.

The atmosphere in the bar during the evenings had the feel of being part of a corporate meeting. Large numbers of corporate guests dominated the bar areas.

We travel away every year. It was the worst venue I have encountered and I would not stay here again.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked identical

This is a normal corporate hotel in a convenient location between Birmingham and Coventry . It's in a rural location but very close to the motorway so there's slot of road noise. If you wanted to go out to eat you would have to drive .
The food other than breakfast is grim poor quality and prepared in big hotel style.
The rooms are comfortable enough but lack any real style .Unforgivable in this day and age there is no wifi and only charged wired Internet connection .
Because this is hotel is surrounded by golf courses it's not really possible to go for a walk in the grounds . However if you wanted a hotel close to the m42 for an overnight stop it's fine otherwise I cannot imagine why you would choose to stay here

Stayed for a one night "escape" package with 2 of our friends to celebrate a birthday .
The husbands played 2 rounds of golf, 1 on Sunday and 1 on Monday. The female members of the party had a spa treatment and use of the swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi.
Beautiful location, great rooms and excellent food. We had a standard room with a massive king size bed, large bathroom, large plasma TV, safe in room, hairdryer etc etc. I could go on for ever with the compliments. The reception staff were very efficient and the bar staff very attentive. The seating area outside the Zest bar was ideal, you can sit with a gin and tonic and watch the golfers on the 18th hole.
The weather was glorious for both days which was a massive bonus for the golfers and we enjoyed the experience that much we have booked to go back in November.
Give it a go, you wont regret it.
