We stayed here for 4 nights whilst exhibiting at the NEC. From the start we experienced problems. Some were minor such as our room key never ever working (we were told this was because of the metal detectors at the NEC - not that we went through any) and having to remember to obtain a code to exit the property every day to terrible (and expensive) food, served by poorly trained servers.
The hotel is remote which is great if you are on a romantic break but for those contemplating staying here and travelling to the NEC it is a pain. Whilst close to the venue you still have to cope with the NEC car park bus queues and then queue to leave the NEC car parks before arriving at the hotel. Once back you are then effectively forced to eat the hotel as there is little close by (and certainly nothing within walking distance). Tired from the Show we ate at the hotel most evenings. This was our mistake as each time we hoped for a better experience it got worse. Main courses served without potato or vegetables, stale bread, wine poured into glasses and over tables - eventually we just waited to see what would go wrong that evening. Our final evening was a classic after being told there was no Ciabatta, ordering a different sandwich and having it served on Ciabatta. A survivable issue but at 165 GBP a night should one not expect more.
Naturally, we complained to the Duty Manager. Promised a resolution we heard nothing before check out. At check out we were promised an email but received nothing. The hotel website has absolutely no email address to chase issues up on (tells you everything). However, the car park gate code card (which needed to be collected every day otherwise you could not exit the property) displayed a Twitter account. I sent a Twitter yesterday asking for feedback. Still nothing. Complete lack of service and certainly not worth anywhere near the 165 GBP which seems to be their standard rate.
If you are visiting the NEC suggest you stay in Birmingham or Coventry and take the train out. More choice of hotel and no hassle leaving the venue. We return to the NEC in a week and will be following our own advice! Plenty of choices, stay elsewhere.
