“nice”
Reviewed 8 June 2009

nice place, even if you dont like golf...
good bar area although a bit packed with the golf-lot after the game on a friday evening shouting the odds
nice well maintained modern room, although small, no aircon ?
great bathroom
pool and spa area was nice, although the hot tub was cold, the pool was warmer... no real action even after asking the reception

Stayed here for 3 days for a conference held in the hotel. This is a country club set in the middle of the country side with 2 golf courses and a health club on site. The grounds are huge and very beautiful with game birds and deer roaming around.
Check in was swiftly done. Room was spacious enough and had the usual amenities one expects of a place like this. Flat screen TV with reasonable number of channels with option to pay for movies. Bathroom was reasonable with shower bath and toiletries. Bed was comfortable. Dining options were excellent with a good selection of both hot and cold buffet breakfast and lunch.
Only disappointment was to be charged for the newspapers to be delivered to your room since most luxury hotels i have previously stayed have provided these on a complimentary basis. It is not exactly a major point but it would have been courteous to be told that they charge for this at the time of check in and not to be surprised by this when they tell you at check out. Apart from this most extra things were all expensive but in keeping with a 5 star hotel prices elsewhere so no problems with that.
The staff were absolutely excellent and nothing was too much trouble.
Overall would recommend this to any one including people with children.

Both my husband and I are regular Marriott guests, he has a Gold Reward card (50 nights) and I a Platinum card (75 nights), but being confronted by the previous occupant's faeces in the toilet in a room that was supposedly cleaned is certainly making us rethink our loyalty. This was disgusting and something I have never experienced before.

Our trip was to celebrate our son's birthday and as both he and husband are keen golfers we thought we would try this hotel. My husband had stayed previously on a business trip and given its central location it seemed like a good bet.

The golf was great. There is a very good deal if playing with a child that they go free after 3pm. My son can only play 9 holes, but said he really enjoyed the course. Other users of the course were courteous and good humoured.

The spa was full so I spent my time in the bar. The food in the bar was surprisingly good. The waiter was sweet and added a candle to my son's dessert to celebrate his birthday. However the coffee is poor, not because it is from Costa Coffee but because it was not hot. When I tried to explain to the staff that the water was not hot enough and therefore was not brewing the coffee correctly, I was met with very blank look. It is great that hotels have these large coffee machines, but it would help if all the staff were trained how to use it effectively.

Our room was an Executive Room which had been refurbished with new Marriott bedding. It was a little dark because they are in the eaves of the building and although I had paid for a golf view, all we could see were the trees immediately outside the window. Now I have a firm mattress on my bed at home but this bed was a board and impossible to sleep on. The TV was so old that to stop it making a rather odd noise you had to thump it. As a refurbished room you would have thought it would have an LCD.

We did report the toilet issue to Guest Relations and a bottle of wine was brought to our room, but to be honest I was so disgusted I was just desperate to leave. There is a recurring theme that the Marriott hotels in the UK outside of London are often poor and tired. We stayed in another Marriott golf hotel earlier in the year and whilst the toilet was clean, there was something not quite right about the experience, certainly compared to the chains hotels in the US.

I went to this hotel for my birthday and played golf here. We ate in the restuarant on a sunday when they had the all you can eat and DRINK! for £16. It was alot better than you would expect, the food was layed on on platters with seafood king prawns through to fancy cheese parcels and a great meat carvery. After eating we waited several hours to recover and then hit the golf course! Sadly I was not at my best as the arden is a hard course to play if you a 24 handicap!

great golf venue, and worth the extra.

We stayed in this Marriott hotel for 1 night before flying out of Birmingham airport on holiday. The staff were fantastic - gave us advice as to where to eat in a nearby village (The bulls head - which I'd also recommend), the room was spotless and of high-standard and the views were impressive.

Overally a great experience.

First impressions were what a beautiful place. It was, the service, rooms, restaurants and facilities were all excellent. we were there to play golf. The Main Arden Course is superb and even in april had quick greens. The Aylesford course is fairly bland and uninteresting and right next to the M42. You could not be heard speaking to your partners on one tee. If you have the opportunity to play, try and just book the Arden.
