We had heard Francine Houben, the Dutch architect of this building, at a talk in London, so thought we'd check out the Library in Birmingham in passing. So glad we did. It's a superb building a delight from the outside, but super-special inside. It welcomes you and sucks you right up the spectacular central escalators. And so much to do and see and refer to. There are so many people really using the library in a respectful but intense way. And roof gardens with superb city views. The delightful Victorian Shakespeare Library on top, up the glass elevator. And really helpful staff who tried so hard to answer our unusual reference questions!!
