From what I had read on the reviews, my expectations were met very well. There is a relaxed level of comfort; service is unfussy and efficient, which made my stay productive. This was a business trip including a weekend so I chose Eaton based on location, quality and type of property. I enjoy the feel of a neighborhood versus large, corporate-type hotels, though I also stay at those when needed.
This hotel spans 2 buildings of different architecture and is appealing from the curbside. It has 3 floors; the front desk and lobby area is simple with 3-4 chairs, a hall that leads to the rear area for the small bar and large dining room. The furniture is like a home with plenty of sitting areas, large chairs/sofas and fine paintings or decorations. It is not the usual generic wood tables and dining room at the front of building, which is common for many of the nearby hotels. In the end, it is attractive and well appointed, especially now during Christmas with the trees and lights set up.
It was important to me to have easy access to highways and such; very important are the free parking, free wifi, breakfast; and the rate was very reasonable. Had I booked the center city hotels, the above is just not offered. It is a 30 min walk to the center markets, museums, etc. but I enjoy walking so this was ok. If needed, buses on Hagley road are every few minutes.
The surrounding area is quite full of hotels, many appear low-rent as you head west on Hagley. Towards the city, it is a mix of hotel chains, office buildings and some are plain buildings of 7-10 floors as you near the 5-ways roundabout. Tesco and Morrison are just there. That is about 10 min walk, so just near the Eaton there is really only residences/hotels. Restaurants are bunched up down the road 5 min walk. (Indian, TGI Fridays and a Beefeaters, then more just further.) just about anything you want within 5 min drive.
ROOM: facing rear parking lot so good news is the quiet, and no street noise; bad news is seeing a parking lot. Size is good/spacious for UK, or normal size for US standards. Very well lighted in bathroom and desk/bed area. Chair and desk are comfortable for working. Bed is firm and pillows are somewhat thin type, which I prefer actually. Duvet is very warm and linens/ towels are all very good quality. There is a stain on ceiling/wall and some stains in caulking of shower of room 118.
FOOD: very nice quality dinners with good portions. I did not have to sign the bill or even see it; this would be listed on final hotel bill; a casual approach which felt more home-like. Breakfast is very good with wide selection though there is no change at all and after 5 days, it gets a bit boring. Service staff are all very good.
I would certainly return. In short: great value and very good quality service, food, and decent location.

I'm writing this review from a clean, otherwise pleasent room, staff and hotel but completely spoilt by party noise going on below us.
Having asked for a room at the back, away from the busy road a week before turning up and emphasising the request on arrival, they placed us directly above a live music party. Shiiish! I even queried if there were any functions tonight! By the time I realised how LOUD the noise rose to, moving was too much to contemplate (even if a room was available).
My quest for a decent kip around Egbaston continues....

I am sorry to read that this customer experienced apparent noise problems. Almost all guests request quiet rooms at the rear of the hotel - even those attending functions. Such requests are obviously not always possible. However guests do need to appreciate that the Hagley Road, and most hotels in Birmingham, are located on busy main roads and noise can be an issue. The Eaton has triple glazing to all rooms at the front of the hotel and this has dramatically reduced traffic noise.

When guests check-in, we allocate rooms so that those attending functions are located above the function room. In this instance, the guest was allocated a room at the rear of the hotel. The only noise from live music that would have been heard was from about 9.00pm for 45 minutes. There was a female singer on that particular evening who was not very loud as she was singing to customers dining in our restaurant. There was no 'live music party' that took place at the hotel. Furthermore, as the guest did not mention anything at the time until check-out, we did not have the opportunity to provide a solution.

There was no lack of joined-up thinking on our part.

The hotel is situated out of the centre on a busy road but that means free parking and good bus service. STaff very helpful. Our room was showing signs of wear and tear but was adequate. Staff very nice and friendly at Reception and breakfast.
Would stay there again if the price was right

A quiet and comfortable room at the back of the hotel. Contains all the amenities you may require, adjust the thermostat as you enter ours was up high and it became very hot. Breakfast was excellent a wonderful choice, the smoked haddock and scrambled eggs were great. After a day at the German markets we decided to eat in the Hotel the steaks and wine selection were very good. All the staff from reception, dinner, bar and breakfast were helpful and friendly. Location is ideal 20 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride into the centre. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Request a room to the back of the hotel on 2nd floor, no road noise or celebration noise from the fu...

Stayed here for 2 nights to visit German markets and on recommendation of a friend to sample their steaks in hotel restaurant. Found staff to be very friendly and helpful. Meal was really good and steak was fantastic - the best I've had in this country for a long time. Spoilt for choice with breakfast which was served promptly but not to the point of rushing you. Room was great. All in all a great hotel ideally located for city no bad points at all. Thanks for a feat stay

Had a special deal which included breakfast – so good value for money. Very clean; comfortable; good breakfast. Very very busy on the Saturday night – so parking was a bit of a nightmare, but managed. Room on the Hagley Road is noisy and with the window closed was stuffy. All in all a good stay.

Good value well equipped room for a business trip, the reception staff were friendly and helpful. A lovely choice of fresh fruit and a good selection of cooked breakfast but I did had to wait quite a while to order breakfast in a dinig room with only one other occupant.. My beakfast expereince could have been better, no espresso or a capuccino available, but the most disapointing aspect was that both my breakfast and the toast were burnt - they were very swiftly served once my order was taken leading me to think that the components had sat waiting for too long.. The waitress could do with re-training on how to handle a customer complaint - my carbonised tomato, charred bacon and sausage with a thick black stripe down one side was incredulously whisked away with loud protestations that most guest prefer their food like that and then loud announcements as she stormed into the kitchen declaiming the first complaint in thousands of breakfasts served. It all could have been handled so much more pleasantly On balance I would stay again as its a good location, fair price and quality surroundings, hopefully the charred breakfast was a blip and someone will take the waitress to one side for a spot of customer service training.
