“Pleasant hotel, good location”
Reviewed 28 January 2014

The Eaton hotel is very conveniently located on a main road leading to the city centre. It's a small but pleasant and comfortable hotel with a good value for money. Rooms are quite spacious, with clean and modern bathrooms and with good amenities including wi fi. However there are not equipped with mini bars. The staff is friendly, helpful and very receptive. Eaton hotel is very popular among locals for its restaurant. The food is tasteful and the portions are generous. The hotel has its own private car park which makes it very convenient both for business people and tourists. The only problem is that because of the old building you have to go through stairs and corridors in order to get to your room. That was my second stay and I would definitely stay again if I were in the city.

Room Tip: Try the rooms looking at the back to avoid noise coming from the main road.

Large room with good amenities. Quiet (it's on a main road but we had a room at the back and didn't hear any traffic noise). Friendly and helpful reception staff. Lovely breakfast staff and good choice of food. Private car park. Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

The Hotel is handily located for access to the City Centre and other attractions around the UK's Second City, the rooms are pretty spacious and comfortable and the bathrooms are clean and modern.

In some of the rooms the floorboards creek a bit when you walk around but that pales into insignificance because the staff are all really friendly and helpful but what sets the Eaton apart from other hotels around the area is the restaurant where the food is excellent and the portions plentiful.

Value for money is good and overall the hotel is fine for business users and tourists alike.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are generally quieter.

Having read the reviews beforehand I wasn't disappointed. Very attentive reception staff, keen to ensure my request for a quiet room was met. WiFi initially didnt work but was soon fixed. Very clean. Restaurant service good, discreet not officious and very receptive to special orders to accommodate dietry needs. As previous reviews have mentioned, the lift does not serve the top floor, there are several steps to negociate on getting out of the lift on the 2nd floor and one is aware of other guests passing down the corridor outside your room due to the age of the building. Only comment I would make is that possibly the interior design of the rooms is a bit basic, almost not quite finished off, could do with a little more dressing.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, do ask for a quiet room as this hotel faces a very busy road.

We stayed overnight at the Eaton as we were attending a works Christmas party. We arrived just after midday and knowing we couldn’t check-in until 2pm I asked at reception if I could leave my car on their car park while we went into the city. Not only did they say no problem to that, they let us check in and drop all of our stuff in the room. That was a really nice start to a great weekend.
The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient and the hotel was well maintained and clean.
The room we had was at the back of the hotel which was nice as some of the reviews I had read mentioned how loud the traffic noise was at the front. The hotel is right on the Hagley Road which is the main route into the city centre and is a very busy road even at night.
The bedroom and bathroom were clean and the bed was really comfy and we both enjoyed a good night’s sleep.
We didn’t eat in the restaurant on the evening as we attended our works party. However, our four course meal was prepared by the hotel kitchen and was gorgeous. Breakfast was also excellent and we were served by very pleasant and friendly staff.
Overall, we enjoyed a great weekend away and I will definitely be returning in the near future as it was a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Perfect for city centre trips

The hotel was about a 10 minute taxi ride from the German market so was quite centrally located. The rooms were clean and nicely presented but the best thing about this hotel was the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with a smile. The reception staff were knowledgeable about the local area and went out of their way to be helpful. Breakfast was superb with good quality produce and a wide selection of breakfast choices to suit everyone. There is a good selection of restaurants locally within walking distance too. The price was VERY competitive and I would definitely come back here again.

Stayed in this hotel whilst working away, the room was very nice and cosy, the shower is amazingly powerful, the bed was really comfy with a array of pillows, staff really friendly. The breakfast was lovely before going on to work too.
Highly recommended must stay
