Had an overnight stay at the MalMaison Birmingham hotel. Firstly the postcode for the Mailbox is not on the website, nor is the fact that there is no hotel car park. I waited for over 20 minutes to be checked in as there was only one front of house.

The room allocated to me was awful. 2 people staying in the hotel and we had one mug for tea, one towel and a bathroom that smelt of fresh bleach and hair in the plug hole (nasty)

The bathroom was falling to pieces. The tiles were rotting, the bath floor was still dirty and the bath was missing conditioner. They had provided one shampoo, one showergel and no conditioner.

The bed had pieces of hair in it. The TV remote didnt work and hence couldnt use the TV.

Whilst getting dressed to check out - a cleaner walked into the room

The carpet had stains and burns on it. The velvet throw on the bed had white stains on it, as did the actual bed frame. The carpet needed a good hoover.

Will never stay in this hotel again. 2 stars

Room Tip: Stay at the Hyatt, Radisson or any other hotel but this one!!

Firstly, let me be clear that this is not a bad hotel. Rooms are nice, there is a moody and luxurious atmosphere in the reception, breakfast is great and they have a spa. The issue is that for the price paid and the reputation that the Malmaison has for providing a luxury stay, it was all quite disappointing. I had problems finding the lights in my room as it was so dark I couldn't see the switch and called reception 4 times with no answer so ended up walking down and waiting 10 minutes as they checked in 2 people very very slowly.
Rooms were nice but nothing as amazing as the Malmaison website would have you anticipate and although breakfast was good with continental and freshly cooked off the menu options, but this in no way justifies the rather extortionate prices charge. Would stay again but only if there was a special offer or price was reduced.

The hotel is located ten minutes walking distance from train stanton, easy to find no need for a cab unless your feeling lazy on the day :-)

Hotel is in a good location, right next to mailbox, plenty to do in surrounding area, the room is stayed in was very spacious and clean, as checking in the front desk lady was very helpful, she upgraded room for us which was great, room service was quick when ordering food, overall the experience was great and would defiantly stay at this hotel again.

After two weeks of luxury five star hotels in Thailand we stayed here for one night before flying home. It wasn't what we had been used to! However, big room, comfy bed, premium Sky TV and a great location. It does feel a bit tired and I guess it is used by stag and hen parties at weekends (that is the feeling I got!). Look for their deals.

I was meeting at friend for a night out in Birmingham on Friday, 17 January and we stayed at the Malmaison. We got a great deal of a twin room including 2 course dinner (set menu) and a bottle of wine for £99 - the food was good and we were allowed to upgrade the wine choise.

Sadly we just found it all a bit tired and tatty (especially if you were paying full price). Malmaison hotels are billed as "high end" (and for business people (myself included from time to time)) and, although certain parts of the hotel are nice, some are just worn and dated.

The room was good (we got given an upgrade), the staff were friendly, polite and helpful, the food was good and the cocktails in the bar delicious (even if they are London prices!!).

I would stay again and recommend but if there was a deal to be had....if not I would think twice.

I visited the Hotel on the Sunday night offer which was worth the stay as the use of the Spa made this a fantastic relaxing stay.
The Spa was the best experience, small wet area but the treatment area and staff were excellent, thank you.
Agree the Hotel tired, great cocktails and average food..............

Stayed in Birmingham to see strictly come dancing and the hotel was fab. Clean rooms, comfy bed and our evening meal was one of the best steaks I have had. We then returned from the show and to cap it of all the cast were staying in the hotel who were really friendly and it just topped our night off. Going agian soon and wonder who we may bump into and will try the T bone this time.
