Premier Inn Birmingham Broad Street (Canal Side) Hotel
Ranked #65 of 118 Hotels in Birmingham
Reviewed 13 November 2011

My wife and I stayed here on 10th November 2011 in order to attend a concert at the nearby Symphony Hall. The location is ideal with the hotel equidistant from the popular Mailbox with its range of shops and restaurants with the bars and attractions of Broad Street and Brindley Place being five minutes walk away in the opposite direction. The location also means that there is very little traffic noise (apart from the odd passing canal barge!) which is well worth considering. Broad Street is very noisy with both traffic and late night/early morning revelers as I found out during a stay at the Travelodge on Broad Street in September.
Check in was smooth and Alex on the main desk was quick and efficient and provided a bit of humour as she explained that there were no rooms with a canal view left but she preferred what she called "the city view" or to be more precise the view overlooking the hotel car park.
On exiting the lift you have to use your room keycard to access the door to your corridor which is a good security measure The room was spotlessly clean but a little on the small side compared to other Premier Inns I have stayed in but perfectly acceptable for one nights stay.
I don't tend to eat in the hotel restaurant so I can't comment on the food although the menu in the room showed a good selection of fare. Overall it was ideal for my purpose I would certainly stay here again.

As a business client of premier inn I use them frequently and usually I cannot fault them however last night was hell.upon arriving we were given a room which smelt like bad belly poo so we were moved so that was one problem however we moved and the room wasn't great and we were awoke to a fire alarm early morning apparently because a guest was showering with the door open well shouldn't they sort that?woke up feeling tired and brekkie was of cafe standard sadly this is a premier travel lodge!!!

I stayed here on business on the 8th of November. The hotel staff apart from 1 (Martha) were rude, ignorant and totally unhelpful - not the sort of standard I have previously experienced from Premier Inn. At check in, I was not advised on the goodnight guarantee, passed by room card and not even told where the restaurant was. The person on the desk was miserable and not a good first impression of the hotel.
The room (214) was small. You literally had to squeeze down the side of the bed because it had been squashed in the room - totally wrong layout! The bathroom was not cleaned properly (they need to take notes of their hotel in Cribbs Causeway which was spotless the night before!)
Dinner was warm - not hot by any means but couldnt be bothered to send it back as they were clearly under staffed.
After a very uncomfrtable nights sleep on pillows that have given me neck ache for 3 days now and counting, I went for breakfast. Not even getting down the stairs I was asked what cooked breakfast I wanted - Let me sit down first eh! Again cooked breakfast came out cold - not impressed at all!
Departure was interesting - handed in key card and that was it - no "have you had a good stay?" etc etc Come on Premier Inn BASIC CUSTOMER SERVICE!
I do hope Premier Inn send me a customer satisfaction survey because they seriously need to sort this place out!!

Room Tip: Dont stay here!

We've stayed here three times to visit relatives living nearby and have been pleased each time. Staff are friendly & helpful, particularly Ow in the Restaurant and Sharon at reception.

The rooms are small but spotlessly clean & very comfortable. The Canalside rooms have an interesting view, the carpark side are brighter.

We enjoyed the restaurant deal - £22 for a three course meal with a drink plus full breakfast next morning - and the barrier entry carpark is an added bonus given the lack of parking in the area.

One tiny gripe, which is beyond the staff's ability to correct, the toilets off the restaurant are minute - it is almost impossible to enter the cubicle and close the door without undignified contortions.

I gave this extra points to be fair due to the conduct of the staff at this particular hotel. I have stayed in way too many hotels and this one was literally one I came across by accident, due to it's location which happened to be ideal at the time I stayed, otherwise i don't think i would have considered. Friendly professional approach, and prompt, was in our room before we knew it. Room was a tad small and there was a stupidly designed desk which literally took the skin off my legs every time i banged it, but other than that i have to be honest the room was fresh, clean and comfortable. The bed was lovely and the pillows. It felt clean and crisp. Bathroom was kept lovely and clean everyday and th elighting was good in there. The room was quiet and never had a disturbed night. The restaurant staff were lovely too and there was a good choice of food. I had a wonderful breakfast, plenty to choose from. I was pleasantly surprised and think that the entire staff did make this hotel so all credit to them.

I was pleasantly surprised. We'd seen all the adverts on tele so thought we'd give it a go, and really glad we did. The bathroom was the cleanest I'd ever seen - even compared to the Hilton and more upmarket places. Staff are increadibly helpful and friendly - especially the reception desk. The breakfast is ok - if you order the all you can eat, make sure you order your full on your first order, because there isn't a self service with the hot breakfast side (i.e. eggs, bacon etc.).

Very very pleasant stay and would defintely recomment and go back.
