“Perfect location, good value”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

I stayed here for 1 night with my daughter and my friend and her daughter on a girly shopping weekend to Birmingham. Location was 10 to 15 min walk from Bullring which was fine when the weather was dry! Perfect for the evening being "canal side" and very close to Brindley Place and the Mailbox for evening bars and restaurants. We ate breakfast in the hotel with a view of the canal. Staff were very friendly and helpful, storing our luggage prior to check in so that we could get on with our shopping!

This is a typical Premier Inn of above average to good standard, the bar and restaurant is very pleasant on a warm evening with a terrace overlooking the canal. The restaurant food and breakfast were of an excellent quality. I was working nr New St station and it's a very pleasant 10 min walk to and from there. The rooms are a little smaller than normal but of the usual Sound quality and comfort. My TV was strangely quiet and couldn't be heard with any other background noise. Also as many other have mentioned the rooms get very warm, very quickly but a desk fan was already provided and was very welcome in helping to cool down.

All in all this is very well situated for the centre and humdrum nature Birmingham and yet strangely out of the way in a very pleasant location. It represents good value and the staff were fantastic and friendly, Rooms could be better but are well above average in many ways.

Thank you Mark B for taking the time to write a review. We are in a great location here at Canalside, close enough to everything that Birmingham to offer but far enough away for external noise of Broad Street not to be an issue. Our rooms are a little smaller that you will find in some other Premier Inn's however we try to provide everything that our guests should need for a great stay. I will pass on your feedback to the restaurant and kitchen team. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Excellently situated for the Gas Street Basin and Canals. Very small room but adequate for overnight stop. Same problem I always find a Premier Inns in that the rooms are always on the warm side and do not have A/C. In every Premier Inn they have a device on the wall that states to "Control the Temperature of the Room adjust here" and then underneath in small writing states "This will not cool the room" Always makes me laugh. Good breakfast in the morning (payable extra) but only paid £29 for the room for the night. Well recommended

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We are in a great location here at Canalside, close enough to everything that Birmingham has to offer including the lovely canal network. My team does try to ensure that our guests have all they need for a great stay and in warm weather provide a fan in every room along with a spare sheet to keep you as cool as possible as we dont have air con facilities. We hope to see you again soon.

This hotel is very convenient for Symphony Hall, ICC and the Birmingham Rep - all only 5 minutes walk away. The view over the car park may not be pretty, but my room was quiet and very comfotable. The receptionists, Charlotte and Karla were friendly and welcoming as were the restaurant staff. The breakfast was excellent too.

All in all, having stayed in several hotels in Birmingham, I would definitely recommend this Premier Inn for convenient location, budget and comfort.

This is my second stay here, almost a year after my last. The parking is now charged for, but if you’re a resident it is only £5 for 24 hours, which still seems reasonable.

The location of the hotel is super, especially if you need to be near Broad Street (the ICC for example).

The rooms are standard PI offering, although ours was starting to look a little battered (e.g. hook on the back of the bathroom door missing). I see the soap dispensers have been upgraded and although they did work, I can see them failing again after a few months of use. Also, if you happen to be staying on a hot day you’ll miss having air conditioning as the heating system only heats, it doesn’t cool. There is a desk fan in the room though, which was enough for us.

You are spoilt for choice of hotels in this part of town, but if you get a good deal (we booked a long way in advance so our room was on £29 for the night), it is a decent option.

For the right rate I would happily stay here again.

Dear MrHandBaggage,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review.
We are lucky enough as a city centre hotel to have an onsite car park with a great value rate of £5 per 24 hours and I'm pleased you found this of use and reasonable.

Our location is ideal for a city stay, situated close enough to everything birmingham has to offer.

Regarding the rooms, your comments have been forwarded to the Operations Manager and this hotel is currently under the process of getting refurbished.

We hope to be able to welcome you back again in the near future.

Kind Regards,

Me and my husband arrived at this hotel. The receptionist was very helpful and accommodating.

Our room was on ground floor. The room was quite nice and modern. Very clean, although the morning noise coming from the cleaners was slightly annoying.

Good value for money would definitely stay here again with my husband

It was our first time in a Premier Inn as we are used to 4 or 5 star hotels. Not really to our liking but the beds are very comfortable and perfect for a good night sleep for a quick weekend away. As it was a quick break in Birmingham for a wedding reception, it was a good choice as it is walking distance to restaurants.
