“massive pillows!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2012

This was a Saturday overnight stay paid with avios (about 10000 for a double, breakfast included).

I've stayed in a couple of hotels in the Broad Street/Brindley Place area (Hotel Indigo in the Cube, Crowne plaza, Mint hotel/now Hilton Garden Inn), so I'll try and draw out a few comparisons in this review.

Bright, clean, modern decor. Friendly staff.

The building is perpendicular to Broad street. Broad street, if you don't know already, is a night-clubbers/hen-nighters/stag-doers hot spot. If your room is numbered 20 or above and is on the lower floors (reception is floor 3, with rooms on the remaining 16 or so floors above), the Friday /Saturday night revellers'noise will disturb you. Ask for a room numbered 10 or below, or as high a floor as possible, and you will be slumbering further away from Broad street.

Whereas Hotel Indigo bedrooms indulge in wooden floors, high ceiling, massive window to take in the views, 3d-effect feature wall, and matching colour rug, Hampton by Hilton is much more cosy-er affair: smaller window, but still a generous king size bed and flat-screen TV. The Hampton's more quirkier room design mean that when you open the bathroom sliding door, it simultaneously closes the wardrobe! The bathroom is spotless, three to four times larger than a typical travelodge shower room (I'm thinking of the travelodge near Birmingham Moor Street), clearly marked, separate soap and moisturiser cream dispensers at the sink and similar separate dispensers for shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower. Nice design here too: the shower taps are positioned away from the shower, so you don't get your arm soaked when turning it on!

Room wifi worked well and was speedy (Sunday morning). No imacs, like at Hilton Garden, but then I always found internet access there slow. No annoying registration required Hampton by Hilton. Bed firm. Huge pillows! I slept well (room 10!)

You are advised in reception, via laminated A4 paper displaying traffic light symbology, of when it's quiet, moderately busy and exceptionally busy during breakfast. We opted to breakfast at 0715hrs and it was very quiet! When we checked out later at 1000hrs, it was heaving, with breakfasters trying to get past main reception to the extra seating areas, thus having to 'climb over' the folk trying to either dump their bags to collect later, or just check out.

The breakfast zone is entirely self-service and self-clear. No-one will ask your room number. No-one will ask whether you want tea of coffee. You do it all yourself. There are plenty of copies of the Independent to read, 3 machines that will dispense coffee, or hot water for your tea, dispensers for apple, orange or grapefruit, boxes of cereals and jugs of muesli, two rotatory toasters for either white or brown bread, some sweet pastries. The hot choices were sausage, bacon, hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, and beans. All the basics/essentials are covered, but set your expectations to Tesco/Sainsbury's style, rather than Waitrose or M&S's eatery standards. A maid is over-seeing the whole operation, re-stocking, wiping surfaces as hoteliers come and go. I wished the windows in the breakfast area hadn't got net curtains - would have been nice to enjoy some natural light. If you want waitress service in the morning, this is not the hotel for you (try hotel indigo instead). If you get in early enough, you can enjoy lounge style seats/sofas with tables close to the massive flat screen TV, or seats further away for some peace and quiet.

I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: rooms 10 and below don't suffer from street noise.

Just spent a night here .From the lift doors opening onto reception 3rd floor up from street level. It was a wow. Very cosmoplitan . Clean chic design. Just what I love. We did however have to promt reception staff. To the fact we wanted to check in. They could have been far more attentive. However the man who dealt with us was pleasant and curteous. We were on the top floor 17th. Everything was clean and in excellent order. Our room was fab. Everything you could need. Spotless could not fault it. I understand it has recently opened which is more than likeley why it is in good order. I commented to my husband. I hoped they kept on top of general wear and tear. To keep it to the excellent standard it is. lt deserves its ranking. We would definately stay here again. Well done

Me and my husband checked into the Hampton by Hilton on broad street for a well deserved break. Check in was speedy and friendly, hotel was immaculate.(Hotel opened in May 2012). Our hotel room was clean, modern and airy. Bathroom had a power shower with shower gel, shampoo provided. There was also a full length mirror in the room which we thought was great. Bed was very comfortable also, so we had a good night sleep.

Breakfast was included in the price, we paid £49 on booking.com which was great because the room was worth alot more. Breakfast was nice it consisted of a hot and cold style buffet with plenty of choice for instance cereals, croissants, cooked breakfast items etc.

This hotel is in a good location for visiting the bull ring shopping centre and other interesting sights to see.

The only disadvantage is that there are no parking facilities for the hotel at the moment. But that being said we will be returning back to this hotel because it was lovely.

Stayed at the Hampton by Hilton Broad Street, last week, and have watched the transformation of this hotel, from office block to lovely hotel over the last 18 months, as I work very locally.
The hotel is spotless as it's only been open a couple of months.
Check in was quick, as I arrived around 4pm, there was no-one else in reception, although the receptionist couldn't crack a smile. I had pre-paid £45 for my room with breakfast.
I had room 502, completely clean and fresh linen, was a pleasure.
Not sure if all rooms are the same, but my bathroom was like a wet room, with just a shower curtain around the shower area, and disabled facilities i.e. a seat and lots of bars for support. I didn't need these, so not sure why I was allocated this room, but all the same, I didn't have a problem with the whole bathroom getting wet etc.
Bed mattress was quiet firm, but had a good night sleep.
Managed to whack my leg on the wooden base of the bed a number of times during my stay, which stuck out two inches further than the mattress. Needless to say there were a few expletives flying around, especially after the fifth time of doing it!!!!
Rooms are reasonably quiet, although I could hear other doors opening and closing throughout my stay, so wonder what it would be like if there was a rowdy bunch in.
My nice stay was tainted just a little the next morning.
LIfts going to check out were extremely slow, and the corridor in the morning was very, very warm and stuffy, as was the reception area. Check out was horribly slow, even though there was only a couple of people in front of me, took about 8 minutes for me to get to the front of the queue. Not sure why they don't have an express checkout facility for those who have pre paid and had no extras like me, as the receptionist just asked if I'd had a nice stay and checked my room number, could have saved me a few extra minutes. Dread to think what it would be like if it was heaving - the reception is quite small anyway.
I was so hot and fed up, I didn't even bother staying for breakfast, just needed some fresh air.
Overall, a good stay, for the money I was really pleased, maybe they will get round to the whole express checkout thing......... eventually.......

Room Tip: Rooms away from Broad Street will always be quieter!!

I visited this hotel and was really pleased by my experience.
The hotel is welcoming and airy with really friendly staff and great amenities; I didn't use it but they have a gym, discounted car parking and a complimentary breakfast which had a really good selection to start your day.
The hotel is very new but the room is really good with high quality fittings and a really comfortable bed and pillows. I would definitely return and recommend over the Novotel, Premier and most definitely the Travelodge. Enjoy your stay I did!

Room Tip: I had room 1415, high up and quite hidden so no noise heard at all

We came on a business trip on the recommendation from trip advisor and the #1 ranking. Recently refurbished it is a great place as a bolt hole for the city. Near to new street station and the bull ring it's very central and yet surprisingly quiet. Our only gripe if we are really picky is the current trend of having frosted glass sliding doors on the bathroom ! There are moments when you want to be truly alone difficult with the light on when your outline is being projected into a mirror visible from the bed! :) obviously the naturist scene is not for everyone! Breakfast is good and service pleasing. In summary I agree with fellow trippers, it's a good stay.
