Hampton by Hilton Birmingham Broad Street
Ranked #16 of 118 Hotels in Birmingham
Reviewed 27 August 2012 via mobile

The Hampton has obviously been opened (or refitted) in the last few weeks so everything looks new and unblemished at the moment. If you don't know the area it's easy to drive past. Follow the signs for the NIA/ICC, and it's one of the tall blocks on the lhs as you head uphill. Parking is at the FiveWays car park just past it, £6.20/24 hours.

The rooms are of good size, and modern. Breakfast (and wifi) is included in the price, with cereal, cooked English, and toast on offer. Breakfast does get very busy at weekend so don't leave it until the last minute.

The hotel is located amidst a lot of bars, takeaways and 'Gentlemens Clubs' and a lot of the guests during our visit were Hen/Stag parties, but we had NO trouble with noise (but this may influence your decision to stay here). It's just up the road from Brindley Square, the NIA and ICC and Gas Street Basin, so there's lots to see and do, and the Bullring (Shopping Centre) is about a 30 minute walk away.

And being new, the air-conditioning works a treat ;-). Would I stay again? Most definitely.

Arrived at the Hampton at 2.45pm on Saturday afternoon (check in is from 2pm onwards). We parked on one of the car parks behind the hotel and paid £6.20 to park overnight. Reception is on the 3rd floor, accessed by the lifts. We did have to wait a while to check in as it was very busy but when we finally did get to check in the staff were pleasant and helpful. We were given a room on the 10th floor. We were very pleased with the room, very modern and clean and the bathroom was lovely. Hand wash, moisturiser, shampoo, conditioner and bodywash all provided. Tea and coffee making facilities provided too. Bed was lovely and comfortable, no problems with noise so got a great nights sleep. Had a late night drink in the hotel bar, think they called last orders at about 2am. Check out is at 11am so plenty of time for breakfast, (which is included in the price) plenty of choice, full english, cereals, muffins etc. Paid £39 for the night, fantastic value for money. The thing I liked the least were the lifts, you press the button or swipe your key card for your floor and end up somewhere else, but you get there in the end. I would definitely stay here again.

Would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Great central location for a night out on broad street and lovely rooms.
Only criticism would be the queues at check in, maybe get more staff on reception when you know you've got lots of people checking in for Friday and Saturday nights out.

We booked this hotel as we needed an overnight stay after visiting Cadbury's World, and didn't want to spend a fortune. We contacted the hotel before arriving to let them know we would not be checking in until the evening and to find out where was best to park. The lady on the reception gave us the postcode of the car park nearby. This turned out to be very expensive £15 for 24 hours. So we ended up ringing again, spoke to someone different and were given directions to a much closer and cheaper car park. £6 for 24 hours! From the street we were slightly weary of what the hotel would be like as it is a doorway off the main street and nothing but a sign to say reception is on floor 3. This area leading from the street to the reception smelt a little damp and we were surprised there was no staff at all on this floor. However when we stepped out of the lift into reception we were very impressed. Smiling reception staff greeted us and promptly got us sorted with our rooms. We were again very impressed by our rooms. They were nicely fitted to a high standard and large enough to comfortably fit the double bed and sofa bed we had requested for our stay. The beds were not particularly comfortable as the sofa bed mattress was very thin, and the double bed mattress was very firm. But we all still managed to get a decent sleep. The staff seemed to be a bit hit and miss with their customer care. We had already been given conflicting information by two different staff about the best place to park. We also had a slight issue when we called reception to see if we could borrow a bottle opener. They asked us to bring the bottle down to reception and they would open it. We did but the lady who opened it obviously had no idea how to open a bottle of wine with a cork and snapped the cork in the bottle. Then asked if we wanted the cork! She was not apologetic in the slightest about spoiling a not cheap bottle of wine. After a long day of travelling, and 2 small children hyped up by visiting a chocolate factory, the bottle of wine was going to be a welcomed way of relaxing once the children were asleep. Unfortunately we had to settle for a cup of tea. The next morning after breakfast we were surprised by a member of staff knocking on our door at 10 am asking when we would be checking out. I understand they need to get rooms sorted for new guests but checkout is 11 am. If it was 11 am or even 1 minute after fair enough but a full hour before we actually have to check out, that’s not really a nice way to end your stay. The member of staff left my sister slightly flustered as his manner of asking was quite abrupt, she was busy getting her two boys showered when he knocked on the door.
The Fitness room was nicely appointed with good selection of equipment and the air conditioning worked very well. The most surprising part of our stay at this hotel was the breakfast which was included, absolutely fantastic. Lots of good quality food which was replenished often by the staff. We were surprised that included in the price was good hot English breakfast, along with cereal, yoghurts, fruit, pastries, breads and a variety of hot and cold drinks.
Overall the hotel did surprise us in terms of good value for money. However the customer care aspect could be improved so that all staff are giving out the same information, and perhaps some staff could be given a few lessons in common courtesy. If I was looking for a hotel in Birmingham for a short stay I would definitely consider this one again as its location is very convenient and overall very good value for money.

We are just back from a two night stay in Birmingham. We like to shop and go for a nice meal in the evening. We usually stay at the Copthorne Hotel as its nice and central but thought we would give the Hampton a chance.
Great price at £40 per room per night which includes breakfast.
We found the hotel pretty easily and even managed to find the car park (Q-Park). It is only a couple of minutes walk from the hotel but wouldnt like to do the walk in the rain with a load of bags. From the outside the hotel doesnt look much and it has kebab style take aways either side. However .... once you get inside its quite a different story. Very clean and modern. Reception is on the 3rd floor and they were super friendly. All checked in for a quiet room on the 17th floor (top floor). The room was great. Clean, modern and not too small. The bathroom looked brand new, like it had never been used. No noise issues for the whole stay. The breakfast was plentiful and good quality. Great value for money too. My personal gripe would be the seating area for breakfast was freezing. Turn the air con down! There is a gym but we never quite got there! We got a ticket from reception on check in and used this in addition to the car park ticket. Two days parking should have been £30 and with hilton discount was £21, not bad. We would stay here again, if the price was right.
