“Sleepless night”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2009

I stayed just one night at this hotel for a work conference. The Staff were friendly and helped with any requests, except they were not very happy when we asked for a pina colada, when ordering a round of cocktails, as it wasn't listed, although they did make it for us eventually. The price of drinks are a bit high, so we only had a couple at the bar.
The bedrooms are lovely and clean, but i had a sleepless night due to the air conditioning making a noise the entire night and no way of being turned off. I found this out after trying every switch in the room but still it kept going.
Overall a nice hotel but i,ve had much more comfortable nights in a premier inn.

We booked this hotel by googling 'airport parking birmingham' and coming across 'secret hotels' - we didn't find out where we were staying until after we had paid and were very pleased with the value - £59 for room only and up to 15 days free parking.
Airport shuttle on request costs £1 each way (this allows you to be dropped off right outside the airport entrance), the driver was fantastic and very chatty. On our return we called the hotel and he arrived in less then 10 minutes.

The room at the hotel was clean and had everything we needed.

Only down side was the receptionist on check in, she clearly didn't want to be there, lacked social skills and forgot to put our keycard in the cardboard holder she gave us - not the kind of staff you expect in a 4 star hotel!

Would stay again if flying from Birmingham, not much around the hotel, the pub down the road stopped serving food at 8pm so we made do with McDonalds but I suppose we could probably have eaten in the hotel.

I Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights whilst attending a conference at the NEC. Problems started as soon as I tried walking in to the hotel... The revolving door would not revolve. Then got to the desk to try and check in - they had no record of me having been booked in - even though i had loads of e-mails that was exchanged between the hotel and my company confirming my reservation. The 1st person i spoke to - she was lovely however she asked a colleague for help who appeared to have no customer service skills or manners at all. Later. When I got to the room discovered that some of the lights were not working. When I tried calling the kitchen to order some food, the telephone was not working (not taking into account that the food were extortionately highly priced). The shower kept turning so that all the water was sprayed onto the wall. The cleaners do not know how to make the bed. The head board had dust that has probably been there for 6months. The concierge was never at his post. Its a 4 star hotel - i have seen better at 3 star hotels.SO...
If I had a Choice... i would choose the Arden or the Hilton nearby.

Me and my partner stayed at The Crowne Plaza the night we were due to fly to the Dominican Republic. We got a really good deal of £60.50 for one nights accommodation and 15 nights secure parking.

Check in was fast and the receptionist was very helpful. The hotel is really modern and clean. Our room was very nice with an amazing view of the river and the NEC. The room included lots of complimentary toiletries and two bottles of sparkling water. We opted to eat at a nearby Toby Carvery because the hotel were charging like £18 for a sandwich!

There is a complimentary shuttle bus which runs from the hotel to Birmingham Airport. We opted to take a taxi which the hotel organized for us at a cost of £6.

I will definitely be returning to this hotel in the future and would recommend it to everyone!

The room was alright and the housekeping was fine. The main problem is that the staff don't have any skills in customer care. Not a smile out of anyone, receptionist never explained that she was trying to find a cleaned room for us, just kept us hanging around the desk. Bar advertised as open till 2am but closed at 12 midnight. The only plus was the secure parking while we were on holiday.

We just stayed in this hotel for a conference at the NEC. You can't beat the location if you are attending something at the NEC. Easy access from the airport and to the train station. Our room was clean and service was good. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They made several good restaurant recommendations including Shabar which we loved. Our room included breakfast which was good. The restaurant and bar were clean and had friendly staff as well. Downsides - a little silly, but they have a lot of geese that come from the lake and there are bird droppings all over the path that you have to take to the NEC. Biggest downside is the crazy internet charge. Even on business I have an issue with paying $25 per day to connect when most hotels have moved on from this practice. Overall, very good experience.

The nightstands and the lamps on these nightstands were not cleaned for at least a few years. There is a thick layer of dust on the headboard of the bed, and tons behind it - that was rather disgusting.

As someone said in an earlier review, most of the staff have an attitude, which is intolerable. The Internet access pricing is ridiculous, the least to say.

On a lighter note, the breakfast is fairly decent, if bland.

All that being said, the close proximity of the NEC and the airport, are the best features of this hotel.
