Crowne Plaza Hotel Birmingham NEC
Ranked #45 of 118 Hotels in Birmingham
Reviewed 4 October 2009

We were impressed when we arrived, the hotel looked great, check in was really fast and staff were very helpful. We booked to stay whilst visiting an exhibition at the NEC- so location was fantastic as the NEC is literally a 2 minute walk down a path at the side of the hotel

Unfortunately, when we got into our room, there were quite a lot of dead flies in there, and we did notice that the review card had already been completed by a previous customer, and it was on the bedside table, dated almost 4 weeks previously- so I'm not sure if the room had been unoccupied since then, and cleaned only briefly, (and then not checked before our arrival)... hence the dead flies???

Other than the dead flies, the room was nice, and spacious, although I wouldn't have described it as a 'deluxe room' as per our booking form.

We paid £57 for one night via lastminute.com, which included 15 days free parking, which is great value and it would be worth staying here the night if you're flying anywhere from Birmingham airport...

...however, when I asked for the car park ticket to be validated when we checked out, (which by the way was a very lengthy process as I had to wait whilst several guests in front of me complained about being charged for items from the mini bar that they hadn't consumed, and then eventually, the hotel admitted that the fridges work on sensors, so they had charged the customers for taking items out and looking at them even though they had been put back- which was after another member of staff went to the third floor to confirm their fridge was in fact full!!); I was told that I would have to pay the full day's parking rate of £25 as by this point it was 12.05pm, and the receptionist said that guests were supposed to check out and have their cars out of the car park by 12! Luckily, I had a copy of the email from lastminute which clearly stated that 15 days free parking was included with our booking, so the receptionist waived the charge.

For a night or a few nights its very good. Right in the NEC complex and 2 mins from the airport, loads of parking and generally very spacious all round.

As with all business hotels, dont expect fantastic food, but you knew that bit already !

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights as part of a coach tour. We found the hotel very satisfactory, the room was clean and very comfortable. All the staff were extremely helpful, polite and friendly, hats off to the chef for providing hot tasty food for all of us every day.

Look, this is a typical Crowne Plaza. Smart, well run, great rooms, exceptional common areas.

Like other NEC hotels, if one is on one's own, life can be a bit dreary. That's not the hotel's fault of course.

We booked to stay the night before our flight from Birmingham airport with one weeks car parking included for £59, a really good deal for such a good standard hotel. The reception staff were very helpful and pleasant. The room was very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Loved the bathroom, great shower.
Didn't use the restaurant as we had had a meal on the drive up.
Would definitely stay here again and would recommend.

I stayed just one night at this hotel for a work conference. The Staff were friendly and helped with any requests, except they were not very happy when we asked for a pina colada, when ordering a round of cocktails, as it wasn't listed, although they did make it for us eventually. The price of drinks are a bit high, so we only had a couple at the bar.
The bedrooms are lovely and clean, but i had a sleepless night due to the air conditioning making a noise the entire night and no way of being turned off. I found this out after trying every switch in the room but still it kept going.
Overall a nice hotel but i,ve had much more comfortable nights in a premier inn.

We booked this hotel by googling 'airport parking birmingham' and coming across 'secret hotels' - we didn't find out where we were staying until after we had paid and were very pleased with the value - £59 for room only and up to 15 days free parking.
Airport shuttle on request costs £1 each way (this allows you to be dropped off right outside the airport entrance), the driver was fantastic and very chatty. On our return we called the hotel and he arrived in less then 10 minutes.

The room at the hotel was clean and had everything we needed.

Only down side was the receptionist on check in, she clearly didn't want to be there, lacked social skills and forgot to put our keycard in the cardboard holder she gave us - not the kind of staff you expect in a 4 star hotel!

Would stay again if flying from Birmingham, not much around the hotel, the pub down the road stopped serving food at 8pm so we made do with McDonalds but I suppose we could probably have eaten in the hotel.
