Hotel du Vin & Bistro

I stayed for one night on business.

The location was ideal for me, just off Colmore Row.

The room was well furnished and had a great upstairs bathroom with roll top bath and monsoon shower. The hotel provided a good range of toiletries.

There were also a nice range of additional features including a Nespresso machine as well as Tea & Coffee making facilities. Breakfast in the Bistro was excellent.

In summary, a very good hotel in a very central Birmingham location.

I stayed for four nights on business. The location was ideal for me. The room was well furnished, modern but cosy. Loved the bathroom with oversized bath and monsoon shower. Pleasant toiletries provided. Good size desk with proper desk lamp (hurrah!) and different lighting levels in the room. Useful to have a Nespresso in the room as well as tea making facilities. Breakfast excellent. Only points to improve are: (a) only 30 mins wifi free, (b) entrance tricky with heavy luggage due to steps (no ramp so I guess no disabled access??), (c) weak hairdryer. Overall an excellent business hotel which has lovely personal touches.

I wrote about this place in 2011 after a very poor experience at a family party

At the time the quality of all aspects, food, service, staff left much to be desired and I had serious reservations about my sons wedding on March 10, 2012.

It is therefore fair to comment when things have shown a marked improvement.

We were pleasantly suprised with the food on offer and, although I cannot see for the life of me how they justify the price for whats on offer, the quality was acceptable for bulk catering and although the size of portions meant that by mid evening we were very hungry I would say that it was of an acceptable standard. Service was good but it does smack of being short handed when the hotel manager is waiting at table.

All in all the staff were pleasant and helpful and seemed genuinely interested in seeing that everyone was catered for and enjoyed their day.

Nothing to do with the hotel but if you book a wedding you must insist on the registrar that we got. I think it was a man doing an impersonation of Martin Sheen, playing Brian Clough impersonating Tony Blair. Made me laugh!

Just a word on the rooms. Good value at £110 for a couple, wedding rate, but only enough coffee to fill a thimble and somebody had previously been sick in the toilet and splashes down the bath panel had not been cleaned off. A bit off putting!

Just a bit more attention to detail needed overall.

All in all a major improvement from my last visit and although I wouldn't rate it as a favorite venue I would thank them for making my son and daughter in laws day very special.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for the night on valentines day and we absolutely loved it, it had temperature control, a huge queen sized bed, big corner sofas with a TV and to our surprise a in the back room!! There were two baths next to each other in the bathroom which was very romantic and the showers were incredible! Had a great stay and the service was perfection. The location was also perfect, literally on the door step to the city centre of birmingham with a great view of the business district with a little hide away of bean bag cushions in the window sill.

Stayed here for the weekend Friday and Saturday night in the Krug room. Nice large room with comfortable bed. There are nice touches such as a coffee machine with good coffee.

Hotel is located a short walk from shops and the bull ring and there are plenty of places to eat and bars close by. The hotel du vin has a restaurant which is very nice if a little expensive. There is also a campagne bar and pub on site.

Breakfast is nice offering good choice of cooked and cerals etc.

Staff are very helpful, nothing is too much trouble.

In summary not a cheap stay but you get what you pay for a nice hotel with helpful staff in a good location.

My wife and I booked the stay friday night deal with dinner and breakfast for £129.00. We have always loved this hotel and have always found it a pleasure to stay in. The service at check in is an example in how to greet and make a guest feel welcome, special and unique. IT is the HDV way. On check in we found we could upgrade to a larger room which was superb, roll top bath and monsoon shower and huge room and bed at the front of the hotel. We love all of what HDV offers and this hotel is always consistent. The bar downstairs is welcoming, busy and has a great atmosphere and selection of drinks available. The Bistro where we had dinner is a splendid romantic dining room and the food is always consistently good. Our breakfast again in the morning was superb, a good mix of cold buffet, pastries and hot cooked food. Service again in the bistro for dinner and breakfast couldn't be faulted and this and the welcome made for a fantastic stay. We can't wait to visit again. It is always a pleasure.

Room Tip: Take advantage of the good deals available on line. All rooms are good, the back of the hotel is qui...

Used restaurant for business lunch - food & drink is pricey, I don't mind that so much, but the service although quick for the food, was more than lacklustre at the bar.
