I love staying here!
It really is my kind of place: Smart but relaxed with excellent staff.
In particular, the bar manager, Ben, is worthy of a mention for his knowledge and passion with all things alcoholic.

Room Tip: All the rooms have exactly the same facilities so it just depends if you want a larger room or are h...

Stayed here for a stop over for one night. Room was excellent and lovely historic building. Reception staff were very helpful and ready to help with anything. Located close to the jewellery quarter and city.

We recently stayed at the Hotel du Vin to celebrate an event. The quality of the food served was extremely poor. The room itself was nice, but the hotel did attempt to insert numerous invented charges to our bill. The manager was quite rude and refused to review or remove the items, and we were left with the sense that bait and switch tactics are par for the course at this establishment.

We recently stayed in the principal suite - Penfields Grange, and the hotel charged a fee of £350 for "corkage" because we had brought 5 bottles of wine to our room(we had guests for the evening). The manager refused to remove the charge, which I find disgraceful and unprecedented for a hotel to charge such a fee for wine purchased privately consumed in a private room.

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel completely, as hey don't seem to understand that this is a service industry and...

I had high hopes for the Hotel Du Vin following a recommendation from a good friend. I was not disappointed. The hotel offers exceptional value, well it did when we stayed having opted for the Friday night deal where for about £130 we were offered dinner, bred and breakfast in a larger than normal room. A few things they could do with getting right though - there is no-one to help with bags or in sight of the main entrance and the doors are heavy so it was a bit of a struggle to get through the front door and not the most appropriate of welcomes for a luxury hotel.

The check-in was friendly however, and we were allocated a room on the third floor which was a bit of a trek with our bags (there was no offer to take them for us) and very disappointing on arrival - where the big room was there, but with the smallest double bed we have seen for some time. We retreated back to reception where we were told that all of the beds in the hotel are the same size (which was absolutely not true) and then allocated the veuve cliquot room after a little negotiation / persuasion - noting we had booked a larger room so expected something more than a small double bed to go in it.

The Veuve room was nice - but probably in need or sprucing up a little bit - but it did have a more appropriately sized bed and the night’s sleep was great and the bathroom amazing. Dinner (the included one with our deal) was a whatever-you-want a la carte affair and was of a high standard, as was the breakfast which was great.

The wine bar was nice also, although having ordered a 250ml class of reasonably expensive wine, I noticed it was a very short measure. They promised me it was a full measure, and then offered to check. I said it would be a good idea to check and sure enough it was about 20% short - much apologies followed - and it didn’t bother me too much, but if you are going to pour from the bottle, you need staff who know what they’re doing / or use a measuring device….

We have stayed in the Malmaison once previously - which was awful in comparison (in terms of those details that you expect from a supposed luxury hotel - it was full of stag do’s and was more like a Travelodge than a boutique experience) - and we would recommend this to anyone needing a good city hotel in the second city.

Room Tip: The Veuve Cliquot room was nice...
