Rooms tired and bathroom full of black mould Cracked tiles and stained bath panel. Staff were pleasant but breakfast service very slow despite a small army of staff. Really disappointing for the£115 I paid

This relates to the spa situated underneith the hotel. I couldn't find an entry for the spa so assume this is the place to review.
Very very noisy from dining room above, no nice music playing as you would normally expect. Very indelicately handled by the therapist given the nature of the treatment, she didn't wear gloves (an essential) didn't take a hint to put them on and had a thing about tapping (hard) and pressing down on you. Not apprpriate for the type of treatment in question. So wanted to like it but won't be going back as I cannot get over being handled in such a rough, indelicate and unhygienic manner. Expensive dissapointment :-(

The hotel is unique to stay in (so often for business trips all chain hotels look the same), and I had a nice large room, with a rather unusual flight of stairs to get down to my bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom facilities were good quality (nice shower).

Breakfast was included in my rate. Normally hotel breakfasts don't excite me however this was excellent. I was in a rush and didn't order cooked, but the yoghurt, fruit and cereal options were great with quality and french brands, rather than the standard fayre.

The rate was the same as the option for the local travelodge and therefore I was delighted to stay in the Hotel du Vin instead - worth a look at the price here before you book elsewhere.

I've given this hotel a score of 1/Terrible not because it actually is, more so in a weak attempt to reduce the overall rating, as honestly, this is FAR from the upmarket, plush, luxurious hotel it purports to be. There are MUCH better hotels in Birmingham and I suggest you try these instead e.g Hyatt, Crowne Plaza etc.

Firstly the street parking in the immediate area is 2hrs max which means having to use the multi-storey further along the road. A tip is to drop off your luggage as it's a decent walk. On entering the VERY dimly lit reception you're met by a surly gent with very little personality who gave virtually none of the information you receive when checking in e.g breakfast times, location of the room etc.

Ok, into the lift. S-L-O-W! It also only holds 3 people so families of 4 with luggage are a bit stuck! Each room is named rather than numbered (how quaint) but there are NO signs saying where each one is located; cue much up & down, back & forth corridors trying to find said accommodation.

And then the room (we had Veuve Clicquot). Decent size, comfy bed, the usual very dim lights and a surprisingly small TV (they're bigger in Travelodge, genuinely). What dominated however was the wardrobe at the foot of the bed - it was big enough NOT to allow you to pull your suitcase between it & the bed. Additionally the tea & coffee bits were inside the door that you couldn't open properly because it's so close to the bed! Great planning Mr Room Designer.

The bathroom is huge, and unnecessarily so. A shower in one corner, a sink & loo against the wall and a bath opposite. The rest? A wasted amount of floor space that would be better served as part of the bedroom. Now if you have a penchant for playing baseball or cricket in a hotel bathroom then this is for you - you'll have enough room for 16 fielders.

The bar is tiny with very limited seating although the staff are very friendly & polite.

Seriously, this hotel sells itself very well on a cleverly created image of unadulterated luxury that in reality doesn't exist. It's an old building converted into a hotel with big bathrooms and that's it. We paid £195 for a nights stay and felt like one of the breakfast dishes: done like a kipper.

This place caters for wannabee City traders that are trying to impress their latest catch, and those that need to impress their friends by telling them they stayed there. I've stayed in all of the higher-end hotels in Birmingham and honestly, this is far from the best. Try those I've mentioned above or the Malmaison which is owned by the same company but poles apart in EVERY respect.

Visiting area for special occasion so was near by
Rooms are nicely adequate but understand why some comments refer to it being tired!
More lighting would help as hard to use desk area and see. The huge wardrobe is a feature but seems to overpower the standard room but not a problem really for 1 night but. Bed nice, comfortable and large. Windows could really benefit from being double glazed to stop huge amount of draught and noise from street.
All staff v helpful. Liked the quirky reception area and darkness is not a problem it's the feature of this style of hotel.
Used valet parking as meters are expensive in surrounding streets and it is an extra secure area in the carpark they have access to and all dealt with very efficiently as no need to pre-book this.
V.busy on Saturday afternoon so ended downstairs in the pub as no seating left in bubble bar.
Breakfast best paid in room rate otherwise appears expensive but good variety to suit all tastes. Nice fresh orange juice!
Sunday brunch needs to be booked in advance something we were not advised when checking in and was full when we asked on Sunday and noted others who had not realised this being turned away but instead we had relaxed bar snacks in champagne bar instead.

All the hotel Du Vin are excellent that I have stayed in, Birmingham no exception however it does feel a bit tired now in the rooms and probably need a redecoration. The bar is excellent and a great venue for business users. Excellent breakfast ingredients however they forgot my tomato when asking for no black pudding - also no baked beans ! Valet parking very good.
