“Terrible is being too kind!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2014

Stayed here for a friends wedding (also in hotel) and its the first wedding iv ever considered leaving because of the state of the room! Room was small, mould on the ceilings, stains on the walls, cracked window (also didnt shut properley), shower head was cracked so no pressure and water ended up spraying all over the bathroom!! The corridors on the first floor was dark, dingy, smelled damp and generally made me want to instantly ask for my money back and check out (if it wasnt a friends wedding i would have)
The photo's on the website are a complete lie and i wouldnt be suprised if they could be sued for false advertising on those alone!
Didnt stay for breakfast as could stand to be in such a dump for a minute longer!
The bar/restaurant wasnt open until 3pm so arriving at lunchtime meant that there was no option for food or drink available to us.
The lady on reception was nice enough but couldnt handle confrontation or complaints well at all and the only response she had was to give me the managers e-mail address to take it further.
This hotel is a DISGRACE!!

Stayed here for one night, upon arrival i noticed lots of people just sitting around the reception area, checked in, got given my key, used the stairs to first floor to find people sitting on the stairs with their phones plugged in, walked down a poorly lit corridor, heard various noises coming from other rooms, eventually found my room, opened door to find rubbish, dust all over the carpet, used cups, bin still full, asked for another room, this key didnt open the door, 3rd room was bigger, bed was clean, bathroom smelled of mould and urine, plaster coming off walls, mould on shower curtain, didnt sleep the whole night as the door didnt lock and was very noisy outside room, more like faulty towers, i understand it was cheap but keepin it clean doesnt take alot of money!!!!

They say, you get what you pay for but this place is on a different level!

The room was small, basic, needs refurbishing, shower was pathetic and leaked everywhere, had mould on the walls, was noisy outside and inside the hotel. However, the bed was comfortable. The lobby area was filled with 25-30 foreign nationals playing music on their phones, talking loudly and truthfully stinking the place out. I am pretty sure the hotel houses homless and asylm seekers, which is fine and admirable but i personally do not want to live in the same establishment.

The car park was extremely run down and dodgy, with broken glass on the floor (previous break ins?). Several times i saw people in there smoking drugs and wondering around. I queried with staff as to how secure it was (it is locked overnight) and they assured me of its security but i could see several areas that were accessiably. However, i left my car there for 2 nights and it was fine.

The breakfast was minimal and again i had to endure music from peoples phones being played loud at breakfast. The only saving grace was the staff were very friendly and helpfull.

I would NEVER stay here again and would not wish it on my worst enemies.

Room Tip: no dont stay here!

Stayed at this 'hotel' for the first and last time over this weekend. Should never be advertised as a hotel like on its website when it is clearly a hostel. Not in the most desirable of surroundings, when we arrived we could see from the outside what a tip it was but hoped for the best once inside. The reception was big but with very dark decor. Once we got out the lift to our room we knew straight away it was a hostel. The room was small, twin beds too close so not enough room to move about, beds uncomfortable with a dip, dark old fashioned furniture, tv with limited channels, dirty curtains and basic windows with dust, an adjoining door which, thank God was locked, tiny shower room with mold and damp in it, there must have been some blockage because as you showered the water collected at the bottom around your feet, shower head fell of while I had a shower, didn't feel our stuff was safe when we went outside for a bit, while outside lots of undesirables loitering around the place, on the entrance steps and opposite adding to the uncomfortable feel of it all. When we arrived back form our evening out, there was loads of people on the entrance steps as some sort of event was happening, smoking ans drinking, bottles being smashed out side our window and even heard through the thin walls a couple engaging in sexual relations while trying to sleep, brown and yellow stains on the ceiling in the corridor and certainly no glorious view of Birmimghams city skyline from our window. There was supposed to be wifi but it didn't seem to work. Yes it was cheap but why sell it as a hotel when it is clearly a hostel for the unemployed/refugees...After traveling a while to get there and on a limited time space before going out we made do but will not be staying there again.

I stayed here with my partner in February, understanding the refurbishment plans and not expecting a great deal for a budget hotel. However, based on the website, and third party images, was expecting more of the hotel to have been refurbished.

Receptionist was fine. Pretty standard process of customer service and answered all queries well.

The room: We must have clearly not been in a refurbished room if the images on the website are anything to go by. The wall was stained and blistered, the window was cracked and had a draft coming through, the shower area was stained due to age, and the floor was stained. The heating was old and took a long time to warm up, and the bed was uncomfortable - even for the price of the hotel. As a result, not only did it look dismal, it was freezing cold - although I suspect the breeze in the summer would be quite pleasant.

After dumping out stuff and heading off out, we returned in the early hours to discover that the cold water tap was not working at all. I went to reception to see whether we could have some bottles of water to drink and use to brush our teeth, etc. We were offered a change in rooms, but at 1am after unpacking and shattered we couldn't be bothered, but then had to argue to get the bottles of water FoC.

Also, people on our wing of the hotel were smoking openly in their rooms and in the corridor. Although this is not the staff's fault, this is probably a reflection of the customers that stay here. There was also loud music, arguments and shouting throughout the night.

The car park doesn't look like a place you would want to hang around in the dark for very long, but was an adequate car park for the cost of the hotel and area.

I think the hotel needs to make it clear to customers upon booking whether they will be allocated a refurbished room or an old room to avoid disappointment and limit expectations while the refurbishment is taking place. When it has been completed it could be quite a nice looking hotel IF the images are a fair reflection of the product.

Based on the fact that cold running tap water was not available, and could constitute a breach of health and safety, I cannot recommend this place in its current state. I would certainly avoid this hotel if you can as it appears too many people have received a poor service.

To quote The Inbetweeners Movie - "A 5h1t might have even cheered the place up a bit."

Room Tip: Make sure you know whether you are being allocated a refurbished room to avoid disappointment.

One of the worst hotels I've ever had the misfortune to stay in. Located in a run down part of Birmingham the approach to the place wasn't the best of starts. The welcome at reception was lukewarm to say the least.
Walking to our room we felt we had booked into a hostel for the homeless. Peeling paintwork, yellow and brown stains on the ceiling......
The room itself? Immediate feel of claustrophobia as we entered. No guest information, no wi fi as promised on the website. The cleanliness was appalling. Thick dust everywhere apart from in the shower where it was replaced by thick black mildew.
The bed sagged in the middle and was slightly tilted to one end. Added to that we seemed to be located near the outside bins and was regularly subjected to the noise of empty bottles being thrown in them at high speed.
I would advise anyone thinking of booking a room here to avoid at all costs

Room Tip: Book elsewhere

Receptionist was a little cold and unwelcoming on arrival, the room was clean but more than a little dated, it was freezing cold when we arrived because there is no electric in the room until you place your key card in the slot, the establishment is 3 stars self classified but i would give the hotel 2 stars and thats being generous, would much rather stay in a premier inn or travel lodge which are both much better value for money.

Gave average review because the room had a great view looking out at the city centre.
