“Close to the city centre, great staff”
Reviewed 19 January 2013

The hotel is located on the inner ring road offering great views of St Chads which is a nice church but not as spectacular as the cathedral in the city centre. An easy walk into the city centre which has improved dramatically over the years. Although car parking is next door it is a bit grim but isn't the hotels fault.
Excellent service, especially considering the hotel was hosting a number of Christmas parties the staff went out of their way to accommodate us for dinner. Food was good too.
Purpose of the visit was to see the German Christmas market which was excellent, highly recommended.

I have stayed here on a number of occasions as it is very conveniently located for a regular meeting-venue. The food is very good but the hotel always disappoints. The rooms are very often cold and this trip was no exception. There was an early-morning fire alarm but the hotel staff and guests handled the situation well, although the hotel fire-marshall was not as commanding as I would expect. Foil blankets were produced for babies and children, which were vital as we stood outside in the cold for 45 minutes. As the fire was in the kitchen, there was no breakfast but staff did provide fruit and yoghurt to send us on our way.

we only spent one night at the hotel, but it was very good. Had to stay as our granddaughter was in the Children's Hospital ( 250 yards away). Room Clean and had everything you would get in a 4 star room. Bar and restaurant were very quiet, which is normal in a city centre hotel on a saturday night. Bar man very friendly and good service given. Food was better than i expected it to be. Waitres good. Breakfast was buffet style and good. I would stay here agian, but hopefully for a differant reason.

Staff were pleasant and helpful, providing map and directions to eateries but stayed in as didn't fancy walk beside urban motorway to more congenial surroundings. Food OK - good view over Birmingham from restaurant. Room was comfortable and clean and breakfast was good for choice and quality. It's cheaper than Novotel and Holiday Inn but they are better situated from an evening stroll out of an evening.

Thank you for taking the time to offer a review following your recent stay.

I am very pleased to read that your room was clean and comfortable and I really appreciate your 5 star grading on cleanliness.

It is also very reassuring to read that you had a great breakfast, as we are putting a lot of focus into our food offering and service at breakfast.

With regards to location we are only about a 10 minute walk from Broad Street and the Mailbox.

Although we are located next to Snow Hill Station, there is indeed some external development adjacent to the hotel and although this does not affect our guest experience I appreciate your comments.

Long term however, we will be situated in the middle of a new city centre development and this can only be a good thing for our guests.

Thank you once again for your review and I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future.

Kind regards
Mark Kelly

We spent our new Years eve there & had a very good time, having been there several years ago & been disapointed with the evening, we decicded to give it another try after going to the Belfry for several years.the hotel is directly opp. Birmingham Cathederal about 10 mins. walk to the city centre, we parked in the car park next to the hotel which gives a 25% discount.
The room was good with everything we needed & when we rang for extra tea & coffee they were there in 5 mins. the staff are the best thing about this hotel, esp. Simon, the events organiser, who went to great lengths to make sure we had a great night.the only flaw was the pre dinner cocktails limited to 1 per person, this was a tad mean given that they were so small, the 4 course meal itself was good & the wine was not that expensive, a great night was had by all till 1am. breakfast was served till noon, & was first rate, again the staff were spot on, just a young team, but loverly. we would stay there again without hesatation.

cheaper then a lot of places in Birmingham, really good breakfast, not too far from new street central either. Its a place where you get what you pay for. Had a few problems with room key at first but staff were extremely helpful and polite and it was sorted straight away.

Stopped at the Thistle Hotel 15th December 2012 with my partner and family, the double room myself and my partner stopped in was one of the smallest double beds I have ever seen! we are both tall big people, on opening the door I thought we had been given the wrong key as first sight of the bed it looked like a single, but alas no!.one night in this bed was bearable, would not want to stop for more than one night.
My sister and her friend were in the twin room, this was fab, twice the size of our room.
Location of the hotel was great as were the staff.
Breakfast was of excellant quality and choice, we would stop again but would probably book 2 twin rooms.

Room Tip: Check out the size of the double before agreeing to it, had we have been staying for more than one n...
