As it's tucked away at the end of the High Street just past Marks and Spencers, I only came across the Cafe Boutique quite by chance recently - but I'm so glad I did. It's a really lovely place, clean, cosy and with the most tempting selection of cakes I've ever seen! So far, we've had the scones, the fruit cake, the coffee cake, the red velvet and the Victoria sponge - all delicious, and I'm still waiting to try the lemon meringue, lemon drizzle cake . . .the list is endless! And at the moment, it's exceptional value with any drink and any cake for £4.00.

There is also a selection of savoury snacks available - jacket potatoes, baguettes, panninis and so on. What we have seen being served to other people looks very appetising but so far, we've been unable to wean ourselves off the cakes!

There is an outside seating area at the back of the cafe which will be lovely in the warmer weather but for now we're happy to stay inside - it's such a pretty place and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. I do hope the people of Harborne will seek out and support this small, independent coffee shop - it's so nice to have somewhere with such a commitment to service and something more tempting on offer than the drab muffins and ubiquitous cupcakes!

A most welcome addition to the Harborne cafe scene is The Cafe Boutique and Cake Shop located at the far end of the High St opposite The Plough and a short walk from M&S. Unremarkable from the outside, a hidden gem awaits on the inside! On entering, the visitor is confronted by a mouth watering selection of cakes and baklava as well as a menu offering a small selection of light lunches. But the real jewel in Harborne's latest culinary crown still awaits the visitor - the seating area. Imaginatively transformed into the cosiest of tea rooms with a mural of ladies taking tea and an assortment of pictures and related bric-a-brac (and not forgetting the oh so pretty Turkish lamps), it is so refreshing to find somewhere as individual and inviting as the Cafe Boutique. Friendly, helpful staff and a patio area complete this little corner of paradise!

We stumbled across the cafe, despite living in Harborne. We were pleasantly surprised - a lovely little cafe with great cake and delicious coffee. It is also very reasonably priced. Support local and give it a go!
