“Spot On”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

We only stayed here for one (Saturday) night, & found it to be perfectly acceptable.
The staff both at the front desk & in the dining room were very friendly & helpful. The room (17th floor) was smart, spotlessly clean & the bed comfortable. The bathroom was especially modern & lovely. We didn't hear a sound from traffic or other guests & had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was good too. Great value for money.

We were a bit apprehensive after reading through some of the feedback here but as we had bought a 2 night family deal (with Cadbury world tickets included) on Living Social for just £89 back in April we needed to use them up before they expired.
As we were expecting difficulties finding the Royal Angus car park, we kept our eyes open and found it first time. Luckily I had read on here that the hotel can validate your parking ticket you only pay half price (every bit helps).
Check-in was quick, easy and pleasant, the room and bathroom was spotless and quiet (16th floor so no traffic noise) with fab blackout curtains so the kids slept in till we woke them for breakfast. We opted to bring breakfast to our room and on both mornings, there was plenty of choice for us all including myself (Im a coeliac and they had lots of gluten free items eg fruit, yoghurts, scramble egg, juice, cheese etc).
Perfect location as a base for going to places like Drayton Manor and Cadburys World and only a few minutes walk away from the BullRing with lots of shops and restaurants to eat at if you chose to eat out.
We would definitely use this hotel again and recommend it to others. Unfortunately you cant please all the people all the time but from our experience we would say, try it yourself. I felt if we had had any problems the staff seemed more than willing to help.

Room Tip: Higher floors mean less chance of hearing any traffic and give you a nice view of the city.

We paid £85 for family room on a Friday night in August which included admission to Cadbury World (Groupon offer). Spotless room & ensuite - Very helpful Reception staff and Manager when I had made a mistake with my booking. Friendly waiter at basic, but adequate, breakfast.

If you have a car, we put ours in the multi-storey next door which would have cost £24 per 24 hrs but hotel gave us a 50% discount so you made need to factor in the additional £12 per day to stay. Alternative places to park a car for free in central Birmingham did not look secure.

Great shopping apparently. We got a bit lost even with a photocopied map & directions from Reception. (Doh!)

Room Tip: skyscaper type building in middle of Birmingham with at least 20 floors.

Friendly welcome at reception upon arrival .Where given a room on the 17th floor, but as 2 members of our party do not like lifts we were allocated a room on the 4th floor.
The room was spotless,as was the bathroom along with the linen and plenty of towels.
We were in room 406 overlooking the "BT"tower.
Black out curtains were superb, mental note to oneself to get some for home.
No traffic noise and no noise from the corridor,or ajoining rooms.
Breakfast catered for our needs.
We were on foot so the car parking was not an issue.
Overall very satisfied.

The hotel is quite new - we watched going up from our site across the road & it is very clean & the staff are very helpfull.

The rooms ( 607 ) are quite large &have a nice toilet shower / TV tea coffee facilitys free WiFi

The room is spotless - the view from this room is not all that but hey want a view go to the Maldives

The breakfast was fresh & tasty & we never had a problem getting seated

Overall, enjoyed the stay at the hotel, and we were able to book in early on the Friday that we arrived, which was convenient, as it meant that I did not have to drag my suitcase around Birmingham for a couple of hours.
Reception staff were very helpful on the Friday lunchtime, forgot to check the gentlemans name. Again good value for money as my daughter needs an accessible room, and Holiday Inn policy means you get a carers room included in the price. As the hotel has Twenty floors, and I think at least one accessible room on each floor, it means there are plenty of rooms available (note to wheelchair sports teams you can all stay at this hotel!)
For some reason the toilet seat in the accessible room is one of those with the front part missing, think this is unnecessary, and can get quite uncomfortable, perhaps these should be changed?
There are three lifts, which move quite quickly between the floors, and a large powerchair can be accomodated in these (my daughter uses a Storm).
One drawback though is breakfast, there is a between floors lift to access the split level floor, but apparently it was not working when we stayed, no sign on it to state this, but they did say this would be done when we left as I mentioned it.
The breakfast area is quite small, for a hotel that could have so many guests at one time. There is a sign asking you to return your breakfast things on the tray stands provided, but of course hardly anybody does this, so the tables are messy. Had to clear our own table on the first day. Think breakfast could do with a couple more staff to expedite things, and people having dedicated roles, to ensure that it runs smoother.
Easy access to Birmingham New Street, it is five minutes walk away, Two minutes from the tram if you need to get anywhere else, and Snow Hill station, wherever you can get to from there. Also bus stops to various places just outside the hotel, if you don't mind travelling by bus.

Dear russiron,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent.

We are pleased to see your enjoyed so many things about the hotel. Unfortunately our stair lift in the breakfast area was not functioning during your stay however all the staff provide table service to anyone who is restricted to the buffet during this breakdown.

Our hotel aims to provide the best experience and customer service for all of our guests, we use a traffic light system to engage with the customers when breakfast is going to be at its busiest.

We hope you enjoyed V festival and look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future.

Kindest Regards

Just came back from one night in this hotel although we'd booked two! To be fair the hotel ain't that bad, it's just that the evening menu is very very limited. In my option they should have the first floor as a nice bar and restaurant area for somewhere to relax in the evening, a small simple thing like that and we might have stayed our extra night. The only really bad thing about this hotel is the parking, I think it's really bad that you have to pay £12.20 for over night parking. This really needs sorting........EATING TIP......If you do want a nice evening meal go to the thistle hotel next door very friendly and very nice meal

Dear KarlyandAdamB,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel.

Sorry to see you left the hotel early, our evening menu is brand standard for a Holiday Inn Express however if you find this to limited there are plenty of restaurants surrounding the hotel which can cater for any needs.

The Car Parking price is competitive with Birmingham City Centre and as the hotel does not own the car park an agreement for a 50% discount has been applied to reduce the price to £12.10 over night instead of £24.00

I do hope to see you return to the hotel in the future.

Kindest Regards
