“Lovely Xmas shopping stay”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

Each year me and my partner decide to go on our annual Xmas shopping trip to Birmingham and visit to the German Market and this year I surprised him with the Hilton Hampton North Hotel for the Friday Night stay. I chose this hotel as I've stayed in the Hampton Hilton on broad street before and loved it...and this didn't fail to meet...We arrived at 5:30pm after our shopping trip and were quickly and efficiently checked in...we had room 345 and from the moment we walked in we were loving it ecspecially the very comfortable double bed (would love to know where they buy these) the room
Had everything you could need...Flat screen Tv, hair dryer, tea/coffee making facility, safe! In the bathroom there is a large walk in shower (loved it!!) and you even get free shower gel, shampoo & conditioner. We had a lovely nights sleep here but there were a few minor things I did pick up on...first one would be location...i didnt realise how far out of city it would be, dont recomend walking! 2nd would be the parking! It didn't have it's own car park therefore we were riding around for about 20mins before we called up and they directed us to a car park nearby however this confused us even more because it stated on sign that we could only stay up to 10hours so I called back to hotel & they said they would explain what we could do when we got thre :/ but this only confused us even more as the hotel only give you a small slip with a number & reference on but don't explain what to do! After around a hour of trying to figure out what to do I realised that you can only pay for the overnight parking after 6pm!!! So this meant we had to pay for a hour parking through the machine on car park then after 6 you have to call up and pay to park over phone for overnight...abit confusing :/ and thirdly was breakfast, it was very hussle and bustle and we found the buffet breakfast was getting very popular therefore evrytime we went up there was nothing left until they refilled it (which wasn't very often) also it was abit standard - bacon, sausage, beans, scrambled egg and mini potatoes and with me being gluten free I didn't have much option (only had bacon & egg) but this didnt affect our stay and I would revisit again!! :)

Our recent 'stay' at Hampton by Hilton Birmingham City North was nothing short of farcical.
After a day at The Good Food Show at the NEC we, and two other couples made our way to the hotel to check in and for a quick change of clothes ready for an evening out in the Jewellery Quarter. Whilst the first couple to arrive were able to check in without any problems the rest of the party were not so lucky. We were told on arrival that two rooms had suffered damage the previous night and as such the only option available to us was accommodation at the Metropole at the NEC, some 14 miles away from where we had chosen to stay. Assuming the ‘damaged room’ story was true, the room shortage situation must have come to light much earlier in the day than at 19:45 when we arrived, yet no attempt was made by the hotal to contact anyone in the party. Had we have been contacted earlier in the day, we could have saved 2 hours of to-ing and fro-ing between the NEC and the city centre and may have been able to dine before 11pm. Communication however was dire. The receptionist did not offer a genuine apology and gave the impression we should have been grateful that there was a room for us somewhere in the Midlands!
The worst was yet to come. We were told to contact the hotel to arrange taxi’s between the city centre and our alternative accommodation. At the end of the evening we tried repeatedly to phone the Hampton yet nobody answered. As we were close by we walked there to arrange our transport at 2:30am, later than planned due to the late start of our evening. It was 4:30am when we arrived back at our room – hardly worth bothering! The delay was due to the taxi taking an hour and a half to arrive. Whilst the receptionist obliged in chasing up the booking he refused to contact another taxi firm owing to his lack of authority to make such a call. Apparently senior staff, who could have made such decisions, were uncontactable. Surely such a minor deviation from protocol could have been authorized by the staff on duty given the debacle we were enduring?
Our weekend was ruined by the Hampton. Our group was split up, we lost nearly 2 hours of the start of our evening and barely had time to sleep when we eventually arrived back at our room for the night. Furthermore nobody at the Hampton portrayed any sense of regret on behalf of the company.

Stayed for one night and was pleasantly surprised by this hotel..quick easy check in, spotlessly clean room with excellent bathroom. Bed was so comfortable and lovely pillows!!! I slept like a log. No noise whatsoever from other guests. Yes.. breakfast was a bit chaotic but worth the wait and looking for a table...not as bad as others make out on here. Well cooked and warm and as much as you wanted.
Will definitely use this hotel if we visit Birmingham again.

We stayed in three adjacent rooms on the ground floor, all three rooms identical, lovely brand new fixtures and fittings, great ensuite, big walk in shower no bath, very comfy beds, recommend twin room.
Breakfast is very basic so don't expect too much, it is plentiful but go early as it gets packed out!

Very comfortable. We made full use of the 24 hour bar too! Parking is very cheap, which is just behind the hotel. The only thing is that you need to be back at that car park by 8AM to re-new the ticket.

Brilliant, very friendly and helpful!

Will definitely return!

Hotel was fine, room was lovely and staff friendly. However the breakfast was shambolic - massive queues, long long waits for 'hot' food which is then stone cold, poor selection of breakfast food. No staff clearing plates meaning we had to eat our breakfast with dirty plates on the table. Wouldn't recommend.

Overall the hotel is really good. Recently built, the room was good quality and nice and clean. Facilities in the room were excellent with free WiFi, plenty of washing products and towels. The only problem during our stay were the breakfast facilities, which let the hotel down badly. There was just not enough room for the number of people at breakfast, it was a bun fight to get a table and then had to queue for ages to get breakfast. Some items were cold (stone cold, not even warm, sausages for example), some things were not available (they ran out of baked beans!!!). Cutlery was very scarce and staff were too busy trying to keep up with demand. Not a pleasant experience. Overall though, it was excellent value. The location, although not central, is only 5-10 mins walk from the NIA and Broad Street, so good enough. This hotel is far better value than the larger chains which, even now, charge extra for everything (like WiFi - which, for goodness sake in this day and age, should be free everywhere). I would recommend this hotel and stay again when in Birmingham.
