“I like Premier Inns!”
Reviewed 1 October 2013

Yes, in spite of what Alex Polizzi might say, I do like Premier Inns. The staff are well-trained & friendly, checking in/out is usually efficient, the rooms are a reasonable size, clean, good beds, clean bathrooms, good showers. This new one was all of these.

We arrived at Moor Street station & it was a short walk. Very central. We managed to get the room for £29 so great value. Didn't eat in the hotel but there are loads of places nearby.

Only two niggles - firstly, I do wish Premier Inns would up their free wifi to 1 hour per day (rather than 30 mins) and the facilities in the room are only two tea bags (but good tea) and two coffee things. Doubling the provision would be nice. I'm sure it wouldn't cost a lot more to make these more user friendly.

Highly recommended.

First point - if using sat nav the postcode does NOT take you to the hotel - you will end up at The Mailbox, which is quite handy as its got a nice big 24 hour car park. Be warned - £15 for 12 hours. I have no idea if this is a good rate or not, I had driven for 6 hours to get there and had phoned ahead to ask about meals, hot meals run until 10pm. I walked in the door at 21:30..... Bit stressed out having never been in Birmingham in my life, couldnt find hotel and recpetionist was very helpful on the phone. Could do with decent directions on the website, including how to get to the closest car park.

Walked past station and there was lots of noise from building work. I was thinking it was going to be a long, sleepless night. How wrong I was, in the room the only noise was the air conditioning unit (which only goes down to 19 degrees, bit warm for me). There was absolutely no noise from outside and very little from inside. Hotel is obviously very new, uses a contactless card system to unlock doors. Security was excellent - if you dont have a valid room key card you cant get past reception level in the lift. Locks on the doors from the landings to the corridors as well.

Waiting staff in the restaurant were superb, very helpful and attentive.

Lots of HOT water, and a proper shower, not one of those dribbly things. Very comfirtable bed too.

Breakfast was simply excellent, with again very attentive and helpful staff.

If travelling by train, this hotel could not be closer to the station - literally out the station door and up a ramp.

I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling by train, and apart from no onsite parking and the parking charges I had no complaints - cant blame the hotel for the sat nav not taking me direct to the door.

Room Tip: The room I was in (112) was superb - I assume the rest are the same. Absolutely no external noise go...

stayed here on it's opening night in a family room. excellant facilities, Literally didn't hear a sound from inside or outside the hotel despite 24hr building works outside our window. Breakfast was lovely, the nicest hotel breakfast I think I have ever had. great location for shopping and only about 15min walk to canal side. travelled with my husband and 2.5 year old and 1 year old. and nothing was too much trouble at breakfast. All the staff were very pleasant and despite being new, they were all well trained and knew all they should, and asked a few about the local area and we were provided with the info we wanted. Parked at The Mailbox, which is well sign posted to find and only a short walk away, straight up Navigation street, I signed up for their pay and stay scheme a week or so before going and received a card with £5 credit on and that card entitles you to 15% discount on every visit so for 24hr parking it only cost us about £12. Town Hall car park was also in good vacinity although maybe not as secure. NCP would be a bit further away and very costly.
A few negatives,
Sofa bed, which I ended up on with youngest who was teething and wouldn't sleep in the (very well made up) travel cot, very uncompfortable. very hard indeed and I noticed the bedding didn't feel quite the standard of the main bed.
Directions on web site are a waste of time. we spent 15 minutes in the dark at 9pm at night with our young children looking for this place, thankfully some of the overnight workers on the station were very helpfull.
Upon arrival in our room the sofa bed wasn't made up, and at the time couldn't find a number in our room for reception so had to get back down there myself, which with arriving late and young children the 10-15 minutes it took for the bedding to arrive in our room did seem a little too long.
Final negative there was a massive Halogen work light on the roof tops outside our room which didn't actually seem to be helping with the works as it was shinning right up at both of our room windows, and despite tucking the curtains right into the window sill I did still wake up thinking it must have been about 7am, only to look and discover it was in fact 3am!!!
will definately be staying in a premier inn again and if visiting Birmingham again would stay at this particular one again too.

Directions:- very simple on the ramp exiting the Pallasades onto New street. and for anyone that has visited this area in the past 25yrs, it's next to the Macdonalds, and opposite Waterstones.
