“Let down by restaurant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2014 via mobile

This could have had a five star rating were it not for the fact that i was sent out in the evening to find somewhere to eat after the restaurant shut up 'as it was quiet' even though id prebooked a meal and had been told twice they open until ten! As a young girl it tainted my stay.

Having said that my room was comfortable and to say it was so busy outside as its right in the centre of the city i didnt hear a thing. Plus the breakfast team were the loveliest ive had at a premier which regained some of my confidence.

Worth a stay but eat out!

My husband and I stayed here for a night in mid-December in order to visit the Frankfurt Christmas Market. We have stayed in a number of Premier Inns in the Birmingham area and, in our opinion, this is by far the best.

We travelled by train and it takes only a matter of minutes from the station to reach the hotel. We arrived mid-morning, were greeted warmly at Reception and our luggage was immediately stored securely for us. We were informed that,as the hotel had not been too busy the previous night, we would be able to check in at 12 o'clock (rather than the customary 2pm) if required.

Our room on the fifth floor was warm and spacious, and, as the hotel only opened a few months ago, everything was in perfect condition. Inside the room we did not hear a sound, either from within the hotel itself or from the busy streets outside.

We used both the bar and restaurant in the evening. The bar is small and cosy and the service was excellent. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals in the attractive restaurant. Everything was piping hot and well-presented.

One aspect of Premier Inns which never fails to impress us is the friendliness, helpfulness and knowledge of the staff. Once again we could fault no one we came into contact with, but special mention must be made of the lovely Joyce at breakfast time, who pointed out everything on the buffet, and whose service throughout our meal was exemplary.

We love Birmingham and have decided, after our experience at this hotel, to make regular visits throughout the year with overnight stays here.

If you've stayed at a Premier Inn before you already know the score. You have to like purple decor (personally I find it a bit dark) and difficult to manipulate soap dispensers. The extractor fan in the bathroom is quite noisy (which also seems to be a feature at many Premier Inns I have stayed in) Also at this Premier Inn there are no phones in the room, they suggest you use your own mobile phone to call someone if you need to. More like Travelodge than Holiday Inn Express - and by the time you've paid £8.25 each for breakfast plus £3 for the wifi which I couldn't get to work even the price is starting to look 'Premier' compared to those alternatives. I much prefer the nearby excellent Staybridge Suites to this, and the price is similar. Of course if you just want somewhere to stagger to when you get off the train at New Street, this is ideal, less than two minutes walk from the station. Despite the City Centre location, it was relatively quiet but I did notice some kind of alarm going off outside at around 4 in the morning.

stayed here for 2 nights for a city getaway. the hotel itself is located right beside new street station and is situated between HSBC bank and mcdonalds. this area is located in the heart of shopping district and despite this, the rooms are virtually soundproof as you can hear nothing from outside. check in was very quick and the hotel is spotless. we didnt eat in the hotel but the food looked very nice, hotel also has a small bar which is cosey. towels in room were changed daily and beds very comfy. definitely would return to stay here again
