Thank you Nick at Staybridge and all the staff for making our weekend effortless. Suites were clean, well equipped, quiet and the hotel breakfast was good. Only downside was the fire alarm that went off late evening. We stayed in McD's as it was cold outside and waited for the fire brigade to give the all clear. We had an issue with the car park charges which though we validated our ticket at the hotel, still kept charging us the full price. We pressed the attendant button and waited for some help and eventually we were charged £16 for the special reduced price agreed with the hotel. All in all, a good weekend. Hotel is central and you can walk everywhere in the city with huge numbers of pubs, shops, restaurants and take aways on your doorstep. We did a canal boat ride with the kids and spent the day along the canal and had a drink at the Pitcher and Piano. Went to the Thai restaurant, Kinaree, opposite the Mailbox for dinner, again this was good. Did some shopping and spent time chilling in the hotel den as the kids could play. The hotel as such, offered no kids activities but there were plenty of things close by in the city to do.

Room Tip: If you want extra space pay for a suite, we had a two bed and kids slept on the sofa bed in the loun...

Would choose this hotel again and again.....very beautiful suites, everything you need on a trip is provided, very clean, suites are very private and no noise even though hotel is located in a noisy area. Would definitely be returning.
Downsides......one of the ladies at the reception desk was very unwelcoming; such people should not be kept to interface with customers. She seemed too tired to offer a smile. Also even though we had paid prior to coming our card had not been charged so was charged on arrival and they had problems with the machine and same lady turned to me to say we probably didn't have enough money on the card. Please put more cheerful people who know what to say to the public at the reception. Overall, a lovely experience and it made up for any downsides. Would love to return

Room Tip: Choose the higher floors to enable you have better views. Also our room was at the end and wifi kept...

I actually stayed at this hotel to maximise my IHG points. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday offer a social evening, offering free snack and drinks from 18:30 to 19:30. My plans were to cook myself something in the well equipped kitchen - but didn't need to. Rooms immaculate and staff very friendly. Will go out of my way to stay again

Stayed 1 night after a concern at the LG Arena - the location was perfect proximity to New Street (hotel literally 2 mins up the high street, opposite House of Fraser) we parked the car nearby at High Street NCP which was subsidised by the hotel.

We were on the top floor and the views were magnificent, the room was spotless and soundproof, we slept like babies. The kitchenette was wonderful although we only used the fridge to store our water - if we'd have known about it we would've brought dinner and cooked in!

Breakfast the next day was delicious. Friendly, attentive staff, casual relaxed, modern setting.

This is an absolute gem and I wouldn't hesitate booking it again for a minute. Thank you Staybridge Suites Birmingham it was a pleasure.

Room Tip: Top floor - best views (obviously)

Just a 5 minutes walk from New Street station, very clean, nice atmosphere and spacious, well equipped rooms. However, this is definitely not a hotel for the tradional traveller who is looking for a doorman and somebody to take the luggage upstairs (don't take me wrong, we loved this).

But as far as we were concerned there are two drawbacks:
1. the hotel is entirely airconditioned. So there's no window to open and the aircon was not able to cope with the April sun.
2. The bedclothes are horrible. Too much synthetic material; thus it's either too warm or too cold, but never comfortable.

We were in this area because we were attending the Gadget Show at the NEC and decided to combine that with some shopping, therefore opted for a hotel in the centre of Birmingham close to New Street station. This hotel is an oasis in the middle of a city centre which deserves urgent attention. The shopping in Birmingham was excellent (although extremely busy on a Saturday afternoon), but apart from that, it appeared to have little to offer the short-stay visitor. We arrived on a Friday evening and having received excellent directions from the hotel receptionist in combination with our car's sat-nav, we managed to find the nearest car-park to the hotel, which is the NCP High street car-park. First impressions were disconcerting as this concrete building looks like is a throw-back to the 1970s with a stairwell which smells of urine and is in dire need of updating (or even demolishing and starting from scratch). However, we knew that hotel residents received a parking concession at this hotel - down to £8 a day from £20, therefore we left our car here, hoping we would find it intact on Sunday morning. The approach to the hotel from this car park is anything but salubrious and not the most pleasant.

Now to the hotel...Pros: This is a brand new hotel (4 months old) and everything is fresh and clean. The staff were extremely service orientated throughout our stay - helpful and pleasant at every opportunity. Despite being a platinum Priority Club member, this was my first stay in this kind of apart-hotel and I think the concept has several benefits, the foremost of which is having a fridge, microwave and hob in the room. Our room was nicely decorated, although slightly cramped, our bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was excellent. Wifi is provided free of charge (which was appreciated as this is charged for in many money grabbing hotels) and similarly the clothes washing and drying facility. They even provide a little basket for you to take your clothes to the washing room. There is no extra charge for breakfast, and although I would not describe the offering as high quality four star, it was perfectly adequate and the two people that we saw on duty in the breakfast room did a great job of clearing the tables very quickly after guests had finished.
Cons: Only the awful car park which is closest to the hotel and the fact that we weren't upgraded (as a Platinum member) as 'there were no upgraded rooms available'. The latter I'm sure was true on this occasion, but all too often hotels use it as an excuse for not providing an upgrade.
To sum up - a very positive experience and we would definitely return if we had to stay in the centre of Birmingham again. It's nice to come across a hotel that provides those important extra bits without trying to squeeze every pound out of its guests!
