“Home from Home”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

Stayed in June 2014 for a 2 night midweek break.

As is usual, found that the Best Available Rate was from the IHG website.

This was my 1st stay at any Staybridge Suites; & I must say I was very impressed.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the ground floor entry appear to be quite sparse, however this changes once you get to the Reception area on the 2nd Floor. One distinct advantage for us was that the lifts will only go to the Reception floor unless you use your room card. Good from a security point of view. If there is more than one guest staying, simply ask for an additional room card.

Staybridge Suites seem to be an excellent mix of serviced apartments and a hotel with its breakfast and hotel style amenities – In my opinion, a brilliant concept.

Each Studio has a bedroom area, an en-suite and has its own fully functioning kitchenette, with sink, dishwasher, hob, microwave oven/grill and more than adequate counter space. Included are cutlery, pots/pans, and other basic cooking utensils, as well as the more common kettle and toaster. Whilst everything is provided for preparing meals, I did wonder where a 2nd guest would sit to eat. The en-suite facilities in the Studio consisted of just a shower (no bath) but this was not detrimental to my stay.

The Studio as a whole was immaculately clean. I understand that there is no housekeeping at weekends unless specifically requested, but in my opinion this makes it even more of a “home away from home”.

We had no problem whatsoever with any external noise, so would say that their soundproofing is excellent.

The self-service Breakfast has a great selection; fruit, yogurts, cereals, pastries etc and there is a limited choice of hot food also.

Value for Money? – Definitely! (But bear in mind that any price you see online will be exclusive of VAT).

Staybridge Suites Birmingham has an excellent central location, very close to New Street Station and the Bull Ring.

I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended this hotel to family, friends and colleagues.

Room Tip: Great views from higher floors

Booked this at short notice for a one night stay, I am almost at a loss for words, well try
Fantastic
Outstanding
Superb
Possibly the best hotel I have stayed in for a couple of years. The staff were efficient and friendly, the common areas were comfortable and were finished to a high standard.
The room was fitted with perfect amenities including a fridge cooker dishwasher and plenty of crockery glassware and cutlery.
Here is a large flat screen tv with a good selection of channels. The air conditioning worked a treat. Plenty of fluffy towels in the bathroom and the bed was extremely comfortable. I don't usually gush, in fact I can be very scathing, but this was as good as you can get. Highly recommended.

We booked 3 one bed suites for 3 families - ideal for visiting Drayton Manor and Cadbury World. It was a fantastic stay. The apartments for being so centrally located were very spacious with all amenities - harbouring to high end luxury. Very contemporarily furnished. The kids enjoyed the apartment feel - they did not even want to go out for a meal. It was convenient to order take away and to park too. The suites were very clean, and even had complementary coke bottles for our convenience.
We loved the concept of the The Hub Kitchen where we had breakfast. Milk in the fridge, cereals to help ourselves plus hot buffet breakfast.
And finally all the staff were very pleasant, friendly and all added together we had a lovely stay at Staybridge Suites.

Room Tip: There is no view as it is in the centre of Birmingham but for comfortable convenience and the feel o...

The Staybridge Suites are centrally located and only a few minutes walk from New Street Station. The reception is located on the second floor where we were impressed by the homely feel with it's pantry and many areas to relax and feel at home.

We waited a couple of minutes to check in where we had a good welcome and given a quick run down of the facilities and services available. On being a IHG Platinum Member I asked politely if there were any upgrades available as upgrades are granted upon availability. On being asked the staff member's colleague quite brusquely stated that 'Staybridge don't do upgrades' and instead given a £5 voucher against purchases at the pantry.

We were grateful for receiving the voucher however later found out that there was a minimum spend in order to redeem the voucher. What really peeved me is that I am have been a hard earning IHG member for 11 years and offhand comments like that are very annoying especially in 2014 it is much harder to attain platinum level in comparison with previous years. The personalised letter did state however that upgrades are granted upon availability, so this contradiction may need ironing out.

There were problems with both our swipe cards in the lifts, as a 'swipe' had to be made in order to reach the desired floor, it always took half a dozen attempts each time and we also noticed other guests having issues.

The studio suite was extremely well appointed with fully equipped kitchen, a good amount of storage space and an extremely comfortable bed; The large flat screen TV had a good range of domestic and international channels. The bathroom was fine with a powerful shower and a good selection of soap and gel dispensers. Breakfast was plentiful with a large selection of hot and cold items available.

This is a great establishment but let down by certain staff members attitude towards guests, it is definitely not welcomed as there other hotel chains available who would quite willingly accept our loyalty.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on your recent stay with us. I'm shocked to hear of the comments made at check-in and can assure you that this is not representative of how we treat IHG Rewards Club members. Platinum members specifically are offered a complimentary upgrade when available; this could be a larger room, one with better views of the city or one that's further away from the elevators. I will be investigating this issue to ensure it doesn't happen again. It's great to hear you were impressed with your room and breakfast. We hope to see you again soon!

Having never used this type of hotel I didn't know what to expect. I didn't need to worry... It was fantastic. The room was spotlessly clean with tasteful modern decor and furnishings. Room is an understatement as it really is a mini suite with kitchen facilities. The room layout was well thought out. The bed was extremely comfortable.. I slept like a baby! The hub kitchen where you helped yourself was a new concept, and I liked it. The location was right by the city centre and the nearby NCP High Street car park very convenient and reasonably priced at £8 for 24hours when the hotel validates your ticket. Would defiantly use Staybridge Suites again.

The apartments are fantastic with a really welcoming team that made it seem less corporate than many places of the same size. Breakfast was lovely and the location perfect for central Birmingham. Would not stay anywhere else if I return to Birmingham

Never stayed in Staybridge before but would again. City centre location, lovely studio apartment, a warm welcome and everything you need. There are some works for the new tram line outside entrance so difficult to locate but I never heard the works going on so it was not a problem. Would stay again when on business.
