“VERY VERY DISSAPOINTED!!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2011

The whole experience was miserable from start to finish. I booked 3 rooms for my sons wedding we were staying together for the eve before he married to have a bit of pampering and a happy memory! asked for linking rooms several times over several weeks, visited 3 days before stay at hotel to request linking rooms again and early book in told we cant have linking rooms, cant book in early to prepare wedding clothes can be next to each other if change from twin to double rooms only to find one room on book in was on floor below. Went for nightcap with wedding guest in hotel, told closed even though till open and guests drinking in lounge. complained and asked for manager who said he was bar staff untill pushed and then admitted to be duty manager! said short staffed. On the wedding night my nephew who was sharing my room arrived at hotel before me asked to wait in lounge was refused as i had room key had to drive back to sheffield as was too worried hanging around in street 100% DISSATISFACTION GUARANTEED, SURLEY STAFF AND MEMORIES I WISH I COULD FORGET! WOULD RATHER GO TO TRAVEL LODGE. OH YES AND £50 DEPOSIT FOR EACH ROOM IN CASE WE DAMAGED IT! I PAID MORE THINKING THEY WERE A BIT MORE UP MARKED SEEMS I WAS WRONG. NEEDLESS TO SAY WE WERE PAMPERED AT ANOTHER VENUE. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE WHATSOEVER.

Not as well positioned as Hyatt, Crowne Plaza etc... In Birmingham. Service and rooms fine. But bar and restaurant a little souless. nothing wrong with the place but no real pizazz. Plus no parking apart from local NCP. Valet parking available for 25 quid.

First the bad. Flat panel TV is analogue so not very clear picture and no HDMI for a modern laptop. Gym is just a set of treadmills with a good view and high speed internet can't handle iplayer so a few years ago it was amazing but now just a little behind. Good rates, amazing restaurant, bed linen and mattress excellent and breakfast very good.

I stayed here for 3 nights in August, the staff were really friendly and helped me move all my stuff into the hotel safely. The room was a good size and the bed was really comfortable. The hotel has a small gym and spa on the 18th floor, although there's hardly any fitness machines, the gym was nearly always empty anyway so you could exercise without any waiting.

Food at the restaurant was lovely and service was fast. Food at breakfast was lovely too, and a great selection of hot/cold foods and fruits. Even room service was fast and efficient. The rooms all have great natural light coming in too.

Wifi is free throughout the hotel which is another plus. The only downsides for the hotel would be the parking... there's an NCP behind the hotel which is a multi-storey but it's expensive and doesn't look very safe. The price of the parking isn't subsidised for residents staying at the hotel so for 3 days it cost me £42 to park there. The only other downside is the view from the hotel. It overlooks a major roundabout and block of high-rise flats, a concete ghetto I would call it. The shops near the hotel were near derelict and looked unsafe, (Richer Sounds was broken into), even though it's only walking distance to the Bullring and the Mailbox.

This is not a good choice. The lobby is small and the flooring looks shabby. The check in staff I had was not friendly and quite inexperienced - couldn't find my reservation then had a hard time processing the check in. Location is close to the Bull Ring and station but it isn't a very nice part of the downtown.
There are a few good points: The rooms are bright and modern. Baths are basic. Strangely the 2nd bath towel was in the cupboard! The airconditioning works well which is not common in the UK.

Overall I wouldn't want to stay here again, the Hyatt is nicer and prices aren't that much higher.

Dear Madam/Sir,

Thank you for sharing your experience. My sincere apologies if the service was not up to standard. If you could provide me with your details I am able to speak to the staff who checked you in. We do have a high number of new employees, who we are trying to get up to speed as we speak. Of course that may not be a reason for a different service or friendliness and is definitely not an excuse.

Although we can't do anything about the size of the lobby, I do wish that you could provide us with some more information on the flooring. We use our guests' feedback for constant improvement and we are happy to learn from your comments as well.

I am looking forward to receiving your reply.

Warmest regards,

Jochem Schut

We enjoyed our stay at the Radisson Blu in Birmingham, and its location in the heart of City Centre, a few blocks walk from the excellent Art Museum makes it the best choice. It offers air conditioning, something not found in many UK hotels. Helpful staff.
