“OK but a bit worn and chaotic”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 November 2013

The location is great if you are travelling by train - minutes from New Street Station and so central for the city. Always seemed to be a very long queue in reception which was quite annoying. The rooms were nice and comfy although starting to get a bit jaded. Mould around the bath is not nice. Free wifi which worked well was helpful, breakfast was very nice but the staff seemed to be running around chaotically and didn't attend to people for coffee etc in a methodical way. The staff were very pleasant and helpful

I am writing this sitting in room 507 of the hotel, where I have now been waiting over 2 hours for room service to arrive. Calls to the front desk go unanswered. The standard of service in this hotel is easily the worst I have ever experienced.

Chose the hotel because of its central location and decided to ignore the less complimentary reviews. The only down side was having to wait ten minutes to book in with a convalescing wife who needed somewhere to sit. The three seat settee was full and my wife had to stand after a long, and for her arduous tiring, journey. Apart from that the room, the service, the staff, the food and the facilities were first class. The room price was very reasonable even if the bar prices were high. We had a couple of minor unavoidable room problems and both times the staff solved the issue within five minutes. We will most definitely be back

We only stayed here for one night as we were going to a concert at the o2 (which just across the road from the hotel - 2 minute walk). The reception staff were very friendly and we had a lovely room on the 6th floor. Very clean, large enough, very comfy bed and floor to ceiling windows - even on a fairly low floor we still had a wonderful view. There was a little bit of noise from the road outside but I guess this was because we were on quite a low floor at the front of the hotel overlooking the road. As we were only staying for one night and got back in the early hours anyway this wasn't an issue for us - i'm sure the hotel would've moved us if we'd wanted.

Perfect location for the o2, the bullring (5 min walk) and new street station. There is a car park behind the hotel and if you get your ticket validated at reception this is £12 for 24 hours, not bad in the city centre. Would 100% stay again if in the area.

I checked in at 6.30. Waited approximately 8 mins to be seen as the only receptionist was busy on the phone. Once checked in I must say the view was stunning on the 15th floor. The bed was comfy, room was clean. Only downfall is that considering it was business class, we didn't have any robes or slippers in the room, also no toothpaste or newspapers?? Felt like we didnt have a benefit of an upgrade. Although the breakfast we had delivered to the room was nice and a good variety. Would stay again if only for the bed :)

Thank you very much for your review further to your recent stay.

On behalf of the Radisson Blu Hotel please accept my apologies for not having provided you with bathrobes and slippers. These are indeed part of our business class room standards and I have passed your feedback onto our housekeeping department to ensure this is not repeated, it is critical to us that our guests receive all amenities that come with the room type and I'm very sorry that you didn't feel that you received the benefit of the upgrade. In regard to the newspaper, you should have been asked at check-in what paper you would like to receive the following morning, if this wasn't the case then I would appreciate hearing from you. I can be contacted at the hotel on 0121 654 6000.

In addition to the bathrobe, slippers and complimentary daily newspaper, our business class rooms also include our Super Breakfast Buffet, unlimited complimentary pay TV movies and use of the in-room Nespresso coffee machine, I hope you enjoyed these other benefits. Toothpaste is available for our guests on request.

I was very pleased to read that you enjoyed the great views of our city and that the bed was to your satisfaction, great to hear this.

I sincerely hope to welcome you back to our hotel in the near future.

Warm regards,

We decided to have a girly overnight stay at this hotel which is perfectly situated near the railway station and the shops. The hotel looks very striking from the outside. The reception staff were helpful on our arrival and we were pleased when we saw the room which was comfortable and attractive. The view over Birmingham was stunning from the floor to ceiling windows. The bed and pillows were really comfortable.

We had a good deal which included breakfast and evening meal and we were really looking forward to some lovely food. We were, however, disappointed with our reception in the restaurant by the manager. I explained that I had made a dinner reservation (I had actually double checked too) but was told that it could not be found. We were treated very coolly and given the worst table opposite the kitchen. There were plenty of spare tables which were not used but we had the view of the pizza oven and fridges. The starter and dessert were very nice but the main course was basically a small piece of salmon placed on plain pasta on a lake of pureed tomatoes. Not exactly what I had expected. Unfortunately the breakfast was disappointing too. We were advised to pick a table but then none were set. When I asked someone to help clear a table they tried to steer us to another that was still not set. The cooked selection was past its best and there were no fried eggs and only a cold scraping of scrambled eggs. Although the restaurant was quite busy I felt less than satisfied with the meals which should have been a highlight of our trip.

If the food and organisation in the restaurant had been better I would have been tempted to give a 5 star rating.

On checking in at 5.30pm on a weekday evening had a longish wait due to only two reception staff being on duty. Checking out the next morning at 8.00am was much worse, a long queue stretching right across reception with just one member of staff on duty, however, another person did arrive to help. I am glad I had allowed plenty of time to catch my train that morning.
The room was average, slightly worn and tatty, but a good size and well equipped. The TV set up was poor, tuned to London so regional weather and travel news was not available - not very helpful when you are in Birmingham. it also suffered from interference so not pleasant to watch. The shower had a mind of it's own, and difficult to position correctly so the bathroom floor got soaked when showering.

All in all, just minor irritations, but on the plus side, the bedlinen was good quality, and the breakfast was excellent with a wide range of hot and cold food.

Thank you for your review following your recent stay.

On behalf of the hotel please accept our sincere apologies for the delay to both check-in and check-out, I have discussed your comments with our front office manager who has assured me that this will not be repeated, we hope the delay didn't cause you too much inconvenience, particularly upon check-out.

In regard to your comments about the room; we are currently carrying out a soft refurbishment to all guest rooms which we hope will be completed by Christmas, this includes new carpets to a number of rooms, complete room re-decoration and replacement of shower heads within all bathrooms - we hope you get the chance to return in future to experience the improvements.

Really great to read that you liked the linen and enjoyed the wide range of options available on our Super Breakfast Buffett!

We hope to welcome you back to us very soon.
